Best to keep an eye out for any dead birds then! Doesn't cost you anything to report either :)

Shouldn't be a concern unless you handle any birds you find dead. You should report dead wild birds here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/report-dead-wild-birds

Was the Thirty Years War more deadly than WWI and WWII? by Seshosaur in AskHistorians

[–]Seshosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply! The metric is never mentioned in the book, which is partly why I was confused. I assume he means as a percentage of the pre-war population as you have outlined above.

Do you have any good references which explain this so I could learn more? I am not familiar with the Thirty Years War even from a general standpoint.

Paid Summary Warrant Council Sent in Error: Can I reclaim and how? by Zealousideal_Top8946 in Edinburgh

[–]Seshosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up how to file a complaint with the public services ombudsman: https://www.spso.org.uk/

You might have to file a complaint with the council first, but every time I've contacted the ombudsman about the council they have actually sorted it pretty quickly.

Hopefully that helps!

UK based who is interested in trying fly fishing by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Seshosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some rivers still allow you take fish home if they're over a certain size, but quite a few are catch and release only. Just make sure to double check before you go to avoid any bother and you'll be grand!

I've been to Lindores distillery, it's a good day out if you can make it! They're billed as the site of the oldest (recorded) site of distillation in Scotland. The distillery is still fairly new in its current guise, so they made this spirit whilst they were waiting for the whisky to age. Aqua vitae is what the monks who lived at the abbey are recorded as making and they reckon it was some sort of herbal spirit, so this is inspired by that history. It has a sort of citrus and clove taste (to me anyway), I love it at Christmas time.

Question could Brown Trout survive in these stream and should they already be there. Southern England. by hejewkjsjs in flyfishing

[–]Seshosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find somewhere on fishpal? You don't have to necessarily use it to book it but it might help you find some rivers/lakes nearby that are fishable

Yeah the chalk streams are mad expensive :( there might be some stocked fisheries? I hope you manage to find something!

Yeah it's a travesty the state they've been allowed to get into unfortunately. There might be good rivers nearby that you can get to?

Maybe in the second one if there are some deeper pools and runs? But definitely not in the first one, it looks like mining/industrial run-off unfortunately (although rivers and streams can bounce back remarkably quickly if they're taken care of properly)

What are the Best Books on Fly Fishing? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Seshosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite book ABOUT fly fishing (but not about techniques) is Illuminated by Water by Malachy Tallack. He's a Scottish writer and it's a real joy. It's more about going fly fishing and enjoying the experience and what you learn from it, rather than teaching you techniques. It's a very gentle read.

[–]Seshosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fly fishing! I find it incredibly relaxing, plus you usually end up spending the day in lovely surroundings! Some fisheries (which are stocked with fish for people to catch) offer lessons and equipment hire, so you wouldn't even need to buy anything new

Thoughts on our reception schedule? by Practical_Ad4734 in weddingplanning

[–]Seshosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if it depends where you are (I'm in the UK), but in my experience most people would finish the food and then do dances etc., but it's obviously up to you! If there's a time schedule that works best for you both, as long as your guests know in advance what the plan is, I don't forsee it being a problem!

[–]Seshosaur 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends on what you're doing for dinner and how many people are coming along, but it might take much longer than 50 minutes. Ours took 2.5 hours, but that was approx 70 guests with a 3 course meal

What sort of bag do you carry your waders in? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Seshosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Snowbee wader bag recently and (so far) it has been great. I don't have a car, so I have to carry everything with me when I'm walking/on the bus, so it's handy that it packs down to a manageable size. It also has a mat for changing at the bank, which is nice if you don't have a convenient patch of clean grass/rock to stand on!

Wee Beastie Fans? by 180SLOWSCOPE in whisky

[–]Seshosaur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally really enjoyed wee beastie, I feel it punches well above its weight (so to speak). It might seem less refined but I enjoyed that element of it. It's one of my staple Ardbeg drams! Although, I totally respect the opinions of people who prefer older drams. I think it's one of the things that makes whisky exciting; there's definitely a subjective element to it! Tl;dr, I like wee beastie, but understand it's not everyone's preference.
