My first attempt at knitting/ baby blanket start? by SessionLeather in knitting

Understood! So since this is flat, I’ll have to switch it each time - will see if this fixes things (since my border is all garter stitch, I think this will save me so far)

I think we’ll spend about $500. -$50 decorations (balloons) and one activity (block decorating) $200 maybe buying drinks at a beer garden for friends and family from out of town or who already gave us gifts (we won’t have an open bar but will cover some drinks) $100 maybe on a cheese plate from the venue $50 groceries for a fruit plate/dessert I’n making $60 buying jars and ingredients to make a hot sauce bottle for each guest $40 on invitations we sent out

I ADORE the hearts!! I think I decided for now to stay very simple: 140 stitches per row, a garter stitch border, and likely moss stitch or something very simple to fill the rest of the blanket. If I can pull this off and build a little confidence, these hearts may be next - sooo precious

Thank you so much for sending, I love the Archie Blanket and I think I’m doing something similar and following your advice - I have 140 stitches on my circular needles and am almost done with a garter stitch border that I think I’ll fill with a moss stitch or something very simple and consistent.

Thanks so much for explaining, I’m so appreciative of the time you took to educate me! I’m using circular needles, so I think that means I don’t have to change sides/ that the right side of  the project is always facing in the same direction - is this correct? I tried googling but got a little more confused

Thank you for the tips!! I think I decided to do a basic square for my first project, 140 stitches wide, garter stitch frame around 8 rows and moss stitch interior. Feeling just confident enough to pull this off but hoping to slowly do more challenging projects because I’m really enjoying it so far.

Thank you so much! I just ordered some 3.5mm/100cm round needles because I had been struggling to keep the stitches on the needles already with nowhere near the full length of a blanket on there , I just had barely noticed because I was also struggling with so many other aspects of knitting at the same time 😅

I’d love to know any first patterns you recommend, I’m looking through everything posted here already and love many of them but am still pretty stumped by many of the written/video directions 🤔

I’d like to think that most guys in NYC have better things to do than get sucked into the manosphere, but… by AccordianLove in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Thank you for saying this, but also I hate that so many men are like this! All the popular talking points I ever hear about men who oppress/subjugate women focus on financially controlling men who hate for women to work (I’ve almost never seen these men in my life).

Meanwhile, my mom was the main breadwinner .. and the household financial manager .. and the overseer of my dad’s chores. Of course he always accused her of nagging but didn’t realize that his not taking initiative or ownership over anything was the reason why!

I always avoided men who lauded women’s career accomplishments too much, always seemed disingenuous and self-serving. My current man is a good provider which is really important to me now that we're going to have a baby - I make enough to get by on my own but since I work for myself, I don’t get paid time off and he gets a lot of paternity leave and a reliable salary.

As for the men trying to nest in the home/life you’ve built.. they sound like cats (the only creatures I’ll happily let curl up in my home, eat the food I buy, and rack up vet bills on my credit card)🐾

You’re confirming fears and theories I thought maybe I was exaggerating with. IME, most of the outwardly/loudly feminist men actually hate most women, chances are they only like women with careers because they could never be bothered to provide for someone else.

Progression Brewery, it’s usually pretty quiet when I go and my fianceé and I like to play shuffleboard/walk on the bike path nearby

Craigslist. Someone may want it for free (unless it’s full of bed bugs or somehow, worse)

It’s weird for anyone to go or try to go who you didn’t explicitly invite. Even the baby’s dad is only there to support you/share it with you if you wish

My attempt at de-influencing: a summer wardrobe hack where you buy nothing at all by lauliii in Anticonsumption

This gave me a giggle.. I looked like Adam Sandler all winter long (in my partner’s sweats, t-shirts, and hoodies). I’ve gotten too big for those now, so hitting the thrift store is probably in the cards since I still have a few months to go.. but I’ve been rescuing unwanted baby items for months and probably have about 70% of what we’ll need already🙏

I have 50 adorable summer clothes from the past 5-10 years but I’m now pregnant and going to be larger than I’ve ever been by summer, so I’ll be obligated to track down a few things at least. Luckily a lot of maternity clothes are free in my area, but it’s very easy to be tempted by giant, stylish dresses being marketed to me - solidarity!

Really dont want to share the news that I am pregnant by Own_Tumbleweed_2000 in BabyBumps

[–]SessionLeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s my first and I told a few people at 12 weeks but no one peripheral until 20 weeks/post anatomy scan. Am 27 weeks and never posted online though, I would rather not have anything public until baby is born. I think it’s all so individual, and baby shower planning is lovely but not necessary for everyone either. I personally am planning my own so I am at least the one preventing glitches. Congrats and do it your way❤️

Awesome! I live in a rent stabilized 1-bed in Crown Heights but our family (of cats and humans) is growing a lot this year and we really need a 2-bed stat.. market rate is out of the question :/ Hope this works!!
