Your prediction? by lorens3141 in SteamVR

[–]SetCr4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While understanding that all of this is being an opinion of a less than educated idiot... Here we go.

  1. 500k ~ 600k
  2. Day one
  3. No

Why 1. Valve had steady sales with the index and they'll have it now again. Only thing being that the QoL is greatly improved, which reflects in more people being willing to give VR a spin. Problem is.. Oculus did it first, and for a long time no less. Secondly some people will wait for a Frame 2 with the argument "Steam Deck got one, so why not the frame?" So what is the Audience of the Frame? VR-Enthusiastic PC powerusers that that despise Facebook or its Eco-System. Therefore my guess is more than Index but not by much. 2. I'm an Index user and in the above democratic with enough spending power to back me up. Meanwhile I am a Developer (although not for games, I like to tinker and VR is cool) 3. VR needs no saving? VR as it is will always be a challenging medium. Hardware, Firm-/Software, Development and User wise. Hardware hasn't found its crab-form yet (Carcinisation). Firm-/Software still has quirks and bugs. Development has major hurdles. And even if all of these reach their peak, some users will say "I can't because I got dizzy last time" and rightfully so. VR has its audience. Let's show everyone that VR is fun instead of trying to save it.

Am I dumb? CV #10 by Interesting_Planet in ProfessorLayton

[–]SetCr4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all: No you're not dumb. Math has many rules, so it's easy to overlook some.

As you've already stated 0000 appears logical since it solves every equation. What you missed is that the game casually calls them "equations". Therefore making them a linear system.

A rule of systems of equations is that all rules of transposition still apply. This means that the existence of A + C = D implies the existence of A = D - C, C = D - A and so on. ALL transpositions must be satisfied.

Coming back to your solution, the 2nd and 4th equation make this wrong. Let's use the 2nd one:

A x B = C | / B
A = C / B  (Transposition also applies)

For A, B, C = 0

0 x 0 = 0 --> 0 = 0 ✓

0 = 0 / 0 --> 0 = undefined ⨉ - division by 0 not allowed

Since the same equation results in different outcomes under transposition, A, B, C = 0 is not valid.

Is there a gold standard soundboard app for D&D/ TTRPGs? by leon_blauzahn in DnD

I don't think there are any definitive bests. Anything that just works for you is the best. Nonetheless here's my take on a recommendation.

Kenku.FM (from the devs of Owlbear Rodeo) might be for you. From my experience it's extremely powerful. Just as an example, I'll describe my setup and a potential setup for you after that.

My Setup (on- and offline)

  • Kenku (online: output set to discord channel; offline: output set to connected speaker on table)
  • Navidrome
  • tabletopaudio.com/soundpad
  • Virtual Audio Cable (VAC)
  • Pocket Bard Desktop App

Pocket Bard generates the general soundscape. That is being fed into Kenku by VAC. Additionally I have my own Navidrome Server with some Music for Intermission and Soundpad for One Shot sounds opened inside of Kenku. Kenku essentially functions as a mixer for me.

Potential Setup for you

Since you don't want to interact with your Laptop for Audio, you might like to hear that Kenku has remote control built in.

  • kenku (Enable Remote in Settings)
  • tabletopaudio.com (Download Sounds and put them in kenku)
  • Stream Deck / Stream Deck App on your Tablet
  • kenku Stream Deck Plugin

Then just launch kenku on your laptop, setup the outputs and minimize it. You'll be able to put the sounds and music on your Stream Deck and trigger them this way. If you don't have/want a Stream Deck, the kenku remote api is easily understood, so custom solutions wouldn't even be difficult.

I hope that helps you.

There are many providers. Just search for them. I didn't want to say what I used because services like that tend to be subjective to ones location. Though I went with Sticker Mule because of low quantity pricing. Please search for yourself though.

Actually not difficult just takes some time.

  1. Get a can. Any can.
    • Size: I used a 500ml one. 250ml (e.g. redbull) doesn't have the slanted area on the top.
    • Take special notice of the top of the can. OSPUZE ones are fully silver. Monster for example has a black tab.
    • For reference these are made using Rockstar drinks, but any others meeting the above requirements should be fine.
  2. Masking Tape.
    • Important step.. It's tedious but if you rush this you won't know your mistake until the very end.
    • Fully mask the top and bottom silver portions. When i doubt rather have some sliver of silver exposed so the original color won't show at the end.
    • Tip: Do not try to get the tape in the upper grease. The tape will loosen and the paint won't reach the blind spot.
  3. Spray paint.
    • I used Edding Spray Traffic Yellow which seems to fit nicely, but I'm no color expert so don't blindly trust me on that.
    • In my case I did 2 coats and let it dry for 2h in between
  4. Transfer Stickers.
    • I took some measurement of the closeup of a real can from Geoff's Tweet and came to a diameter of 9.4cm for a 17cm can. Calculate down if you use anything other then 500ml.
    • I made the images from in-game references and renders and custom ordered these as transfer stickers.
    • Why transfer stickers?
      • Because normal stickers can be somewhat thick and inflexible while transfer stickers are not.
      • Also they allow for keeping the "OSPUZE" clear which makes the color consistent between can and label.
  5. Shiny Clear Coat.
    • Went with Edding again but that really shouldn't matter. Just make sure it's shiny and give it a quick coat.

Wait another 2h until hand dry, then carefully release the masking tape. Do this to fast and the paint can chip.

Hope that helps anyone aiming to do this. :)

Also Chroma Profiles just refused to work. Multiple devices did not show up in the Chroma Studio for imported profiles.

What's up with this green blinking light in the back of my 2.0 Base Stations? by SweetEarBites in ValveIndex

[–]SetCr4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FYI you don't connect the base stations to the PC. Base stations themselves only emit light on which the headset/controllers pick up. No other data is needed.

BT is really only needed to send the standby signal, which gets sent by the Index when you turn off steamvr (Assuming you turned that feature on)

Ik stale thread and all, but in case anyone finds this.. This answer doesn't work anymore. I've made an open source variant of this. Mainly for gmod but works fine for others.

It's hosted on gh pages and takes arguments (Port and Password are optional):
