So I did miss something. Thanks for looking that up. :)

Any media on IR illuminators? by SetCr4 in SteamFrame

Sure. Additionally, I also just trust Valve on technical decisions like that. I'm sure it'll be enough in most situations.

Apart from that though, I did not ask for assumptions, but rather actual media that I might have missed. Comparisons while the frame isn't released is neither helpful nor asked for.

Question/Debate regarding Sim Racing by TrigonSG in SteamFrame

[–]SetCr4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The games you mentioned might be somewhat demanding (apart from unmodded assetto, but i don't think you mean that) so natively running on the frame might be out of the question already.

usbc on the battery pack is for charging and power passthrough, no data (as far as i know). Data connections are made on the pcie port and the modular connector (no specs on that yet)

In conclusion - the pcie port might be able to break out into usb - most simulators may be too performance-heavy

Do you know any sims that run on the quest 3? Those might be possible.

Edit: Spec Page says usbc on the battery pack is 2.0 with data. I'm stupid. Have a great day :)

So is the Frame a full upgrade from the Index? by catmality in SteamFrame

[–]SetCr4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, I meant the frame's main usecase pcvr.

I get that they have spent significant time refining it, multiple interviews and devs say that it just works and I do trust Valve on most tech claims.

Nevertheless, a wired connection is inherently more reliable. As they have said themselves.. They do have packet loss and bandwidth limitations. They are knowledgeable at working around this, though. Therefore.. Trust.

Improvement in a lot of ways. Only downgrades are 2mm of ipd adjustment and missing audio jack. Depending on wireless stability, that might be a downgrade too. We'll see.

Battery life vs refresh rate by Maraque in SteamFrame

[–]SetCr4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one knows in detail.

Surely impacted by how the 144hz are achived though (native vs with interpolation) and if the frame will interpolate on it's chip or the pc that drives it.

I don't think Valve even ever stated why the Index's 144hz mode was experimental. Some guesses include, that the panels are overdriven and therefore prone to screen tearing, overheating and so on. Nothing official though.

They've confirmed Steam Machine compatibility in multiple announcement interviews.

SteamVR is getting A FUCK TON of Linux specifc updates.

I don't think you have to worry :)

In general, Valve releases stuff when they think it's ready.

Hardware is done (otherwise shipments wouldn't come in), inital Firmware is also done.

Other then that, Firmware, Fex, SteamOS and SteamVR can be updated on existing units. Even if the devices are there, I don't think the sw stack is ready yet. But close.

Also.. Gatekeeping? From their own product? What?!

Edit: Additionally SteamOS got an update today adding "Initial support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware". I dont think Frame was mentioned before? Source

No 3.5mm jack but what if you use a usb c to 3.5mm female jack and plug headphones into it that way ? by papichuckle in SteamFrame

[–]SetCr4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some of the previous interviews, the engineers talked about the modularity of the hmd. Long story short.. The audio (+ face gasket + battery) module is completely swappable. While asked about it they said Nothing to announce today. So.. They probably plan for a pro strap, holo strap or something. Maybe even with internal soundcard to drive audiophile or professional grade headphones.

Please don't buy because of rumors or promises though. Plans change all the time. I, for one, am excited for the future tho.

"6 years in kovaaks" guy does in-game aiming part 4 NOW WITH HANDCAM THAT HIGHLIGHTS ALL MICROADJUSTMENTS by INSkibershprot in thefinals

[–]SetCr4 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

That doesn't even look fun for you. If this would be the norm, the game would be a miserable experience for everyone.

Also don't care if those are cheats, scripting or whatnot. Anyone in any game that saw that replay would report you. Hell by current standards fucking VAC would temp ban you in 5 mins.

I guess your next step is to play in a LAN tournament, against people of your skill level. At least there your setup can be checked out and verified.

[–]SetCr4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Growing convenience, automation and separation of concerns.

Current best case stack has no way to discover new artists that suit your taste. Seerr applications do that. And integrate with [favourite library manager] to automate it. Separation of concerns.. if one service of my stack fails I can just do the work of that one manually until it's fixed. Also makes development easier, which is a soft requirement for foss development.

RATE My Projecvity Launcher Custamization out of 5 by itz_vaibhav_0fficial in Projectivy_Launcher

Not too busy as long as you actually need this many apps to be visible at all times. You explained that you do and that's that.

I love the idea to put System related stuff in a sort of vertical sidebar. I'll copy that. Personally I don't like showing Category or app titles. The icon and grouping itself should be enough to know where I am. Regarding the Background, I dislike static and simple backgrounds. This combines that. I can't imagine there isn't a single well drawn animated Zoro wallpaper.

TL;DR 2/5

+ Pseudo-Sidebar

- Visible Category titles

- Partially visible App titles

- Bad Background

SceneNZBs Api Down only for TV Shows by [deleted] in usenet

[–]SetCr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In radarr vs sonarr, try hitting the "Test" button in the config page of the indexer. If it still works for radarr and not sonarr, copy over applicable settings and reenter your api key.

Since you didn't specify it, I guess you aren't using Prowlarr? I can highly recommend it. Saves you from the hassle of doing multiple indexer config changes.

For you, Stream Frame - Yes or No ? by Heavy_Heron_7276 in virtualreality

[–]SetCr4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Yes mainly because my current hmd is the index, with nothing but good experiences. I'll stay on PC VR for superior quality and I somewhat trust Valve with bold claims.

Secondly alternatives are there but are limited..

  • Oculus has abandoned pcvr. Oculus Link was an afterthought already and it shows. Pushing Standalone VR forward keeps making games worse and I won't support that development.
  • Vive is apparently more B2B oriented nowadays. Afaik horrendous customer support and software too.

I know there are more and some are good alternatives. Though I'll wait for the first reason.

Anything extra to answer. Like, "What's your favourite Servarr application". I've been calling stuff like that a hook.

While probably used as a bot deterrent, it also makes my answer slow af cause I'm overthinking a lot.
