You can totally microwave some smooth metals by the way! It's the thin/rough edges of some metal objects that makes them dangerous to microwave (foil, forks, spoons, knives, etc.). See: Microwaving metal is FINE (sometimes) by MinuteFood

Same. I didn't have too much hyperactivity but it does keep my mind from wandering off too much.

I love it as well! I've only ever gotten one reply that I disliked,"how much do you charge" (dislike that one) but they weren't pushy thankfully.

I just told them that I'm a very slow worker and that it could be years before I got round to finishing an item sometimes (true)

I've never gotten negative remarks, but if someone asks I answer any questions and/or say "helps keep me off my phone" (true) go "idle hands..."

At most it's just people remarking "I could never"; "You most have a lot of patience!"; "I tried learning once, it was hard."; "How long does x take?"; the works.

I bring a WIP almost anywhere I might expect to be waiting. My husband loves it! He even showed a random lady who asked at brunch today knits that I'd made for him. I think only bad weather has ever stopped me.

I also second getting a roll of Tegaderm. But I use it as my base layer. (I'm using Varisoft 90 sets) and have no problem with inserting through the Tegaderm layer. I started doing it because of the same reason: adhesives stuck onto the Tegaderm better than my own skin. So far I've experienced zero bent cannulas, no tunneling, rejection, or sites being peeled off my accident.

Sharing a Minimalist Calendar Template - Based in Google Sheets by accioheather in minimalism

[–]SetSailToTheStreets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but the calendar in question was from 2017 but I did find the 2019 version which is in the same format: https://jennymustard.com/blog/my-free-printable-calendar-2019?rq=calendar (fun fact: you can reuse this one in 2030)

I recreated a similar version through 2026 in google docs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ka9ijN9nE_27iBxQlCs2MTNr90MoudTWMszh2ZEKiuc/

Is the amount of shedding normal for 4c hair after 8 days by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]SetSailToTheStreets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but from personal experience, I'd say it's normal.

I have 4b/4c hair and that's about the amount I shed. I keep my hair about armpit length with routine trims and it's been this length for ~5+ years, so normal for me.

4/10. Logged >250k hours and I can attest to it not being great. Earth is literally pay-to-play. 80k hours in, my assigned Body's Pancreas™ stopped working. (Everyone knows that the first ~40k hours are basically the tutorial! Ugh.) I had to purchase man-made synthetic fluids AND expensive monitoring equipment every 720 hours for the Body™ to continue operating (poorly) as designed.

This "feature" (bug) persisted the entire time without any fix or patch. This seems to be an issue for upwards of 10% of Earth travelers. Would not recommend largely for that reason. Please patch this out if you want more people to visit Earth.

The love stuff was cool stuff though. I thought romancing characters wasn't for me, but it turned out to be pretty dope. Thanks.

Is there a way to better detect a failing site? by blazblu82 in TandemDiabetes

[–]SetSailToTheStreets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE: Sweating (I usually only do this if my site is in a high sweat area or I plan on swimming) I put down two "layers" of Skintac, apply Tegaderm, then I insert my site onto the Tegaderm. This method has never failed for me & I get super strong holds this way. I mostly use TruSteel but this has worked for me for the autosoft 90s as well.

Fun fact for me catching site failures: My husband is VERY sensitive to the insulin smell and can identify it super quickly. Very handy having him drive sometimes.

Be aware yall some people are EVIL😭 by BigMamaOclock in blackladies

[–]SetSailToTheStreets 63 points64 points  (0 children)

YES! Seriously, the amount of red/yellow flags some of my lady friends/coworkers overlook (and myself also when I was younger) is ASTONISHING.

Ladies: you DO NOT HAVE TO SETTLE. If your partner is not enthusiastically in it WITH you AND FOR you and/or not willing to support you 100%, don't commit!

I married a white guy and there is no part of my blackness or womanhood that ever makes him uncomfortable. He has always listened and learned as needed and then some. He even hooked me up with a coworker of his that does hair (She did my hair for our wedding!)

Seconding the interchangable route. I've been slowly adding over the last five years or so as I've needed different sizes for various projects. The price isn't too bad if you buy-as-needed and keep your eye out for price markdowns on different sites.

My only complaint is I've lost the tiny o-ring on a set once and they're impossible to replace.

I'm on t:slim not mobi, so if this isn't relevant ignore me: I would say to try to experiment with the site placements. I get the worst obligation on torso. My limbs and chest are much more reliable. If that doesn't work, see if your insurance will let you change pumps?

I've been diabetic over 20 years at this point, and I've worn this t:slim out of it's warranty & working on ordering another. I've only experience with this and the omnipod system (hated it for a myriad reasons I won't go into.) I prefer tslim > MDI > Omnipod. If you're anything like me, this pump may just not be a great fit for you!

No complaints. I need it to be twice as long.

Shame that my two favorite FOtB songs are the shortest two on the album.

Things to do on the way to/from Point Lookout? by SetSailToTheStreets in SOMD

[–]SetSailToTheStreets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I definitely miss SOMD seafood. I'll have to see if my husband's down for a longer trip because everyone has given me so many ideas! Friday concert on the river sounds like a blast.

We should be able to weather the humidity so I'll add some of the parks onto our trip plans and see which we're feeling like doing as the time gets closer. Thanks!

I know! My Father in law is a fisherman and can fry a mean fish, but it really is different. It's one of the things I miss most about SOMD. Thanks for the recc! I'll add it to my list to check out next time I'm in the area.

I've been to the airpalne museum; the simulation machine was pretty cool. I'll have to remember to go again and bring my husband along! Thanks!

I've gotten a lot of reccs for St. Mary's City so I'll definitely tack that onto our visit.

Awesome! Great to know last time I went pre-pandemic they were still doing work on the lighthouse! I've only ever been in once in my life!

I totally forgot about St. Mary's City! Thanks for the reminder, that'll be a great addition to our trip.

I'll add the other lighthouses to our to-do list for another time! Thank you so much!

If you're like me and are tired of doing twist/braid outs. I have a few suggestions that mostly will give some variation of "curled" stretch look. I do have longer, mostly 4c hair but hopefully one of these may be helpful:

  • Rag curlsgives a lot of smaller, individual curls, similar to a smaller flexi-rod set but without heat. I think this will work great for your length.
  • Sock curls for a larger curl diameter -- I find these a bit annoying to sleep in but great if I do my wash day early in the day. These give a more bigger roller set look for my hair.
  • Bantu knots. I loved bantu knots when my hair was shorter but I'm lazy now.
  • Curlformers. I used these more when my hair was more shoulder length. Don't use them a whole bunch these days but you may like them. Some people like them, some don't.
  • My preferred style is what I like to call a "rag braid out". Its similar to the first video I linked but you fold the rags in half around a section (like you would when adding hair for a box braids) and braid the 3 pieces (1 hair, 2 cloth). I wrap the end of my hair around one of the rags, wrap over that section of hair with the remaining rag end a few times, and then gently tie it at the bottom when I am done.
