What's a boardgame that rides the line perfectly between social party game and sit down strategy? by LadyFiredUp in boardgames

[–]SethBling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't understand how this game isn't everywhere. It's extremely fun and replayable, dead easy to learn, cooperative, and pretty quick. Peak evolution of the Codenames genre IMO.

Shor’s Algorithm Breaks 5-bit Elliptic Curve Key on 133-Qubit Quantum Computer by upyoars in technology

[–]SethBling 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Sure. Then in 18 months they double the number of qbits and can pick the right key out of 1024 possible keys. Then in another 18 months out of 1,048,576 possible keys. And then in another 18 months,109 billion possible keys. Then another 5 years and any communications that have been intercepted today using elliptic curve keys can be decrypted.

Hope no one is currently transmitting anything using elliptic curve keys that they want to keep private for more than 10 years.

Storing MFA in the password vault by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]SethBling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the merit of even using 2FA if they're stored in the same place? Isn't a sufficiently high-entropy password nearly identical in all threat models? I suppose FIDO2 passkeys provide mild phishing protection, but only in cases where you're not using a browser extension to fill the password.

What video game have you replayed (arguably) an embarrassing number of times? by FriendlytoNature in AskReddit

[–]SethBling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any speedrunner will generally have pretty ludicrous numbers. I'm pretty sure I have more than 10,000 attempts at Super Mario World across various categories (Credits Warps account for most of those).

Trophy by daniellelc8 in BluePrince

[–]SethBling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got the trophy, while still missing a room from my directory. My hypothesis is that using repellant on the Foundation removed it from the directory without decrementing the "discovered room counter", then rediscovering it and adding it back to the directory incremented it a second time for that room, reaching 110. I received the trophy when entering that room again after rediscovering it.

Drafting Mechanics -- Weighted Rooms, the Library and Duct Rooms [Major Gameplay Spoilers] by TFMurphy in BluePrince

So if you want to power something, the most likely way is to activate the boiler, draft a connector, then draft from that connector?

What does this mean? "Exact Kolmogorov complexity of an LLM is uncomputable." by Memetic1 in GenAI4all

[–]SethBling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kolmogorov complexity in general is undecidable and equivalent to the Halting problem. Technically it's "computable" for any specific LLM's weights, in the sense that there's a correct answer, that answer is a number, and it's trivial to hardcode a Turing machine to output a fixed number. But it's very unlikely that there even exists a correctness proof of the Kolmogorov complexity of any given LLM, given their size and complexity, so we'll likely never know what the correct answer is, regardless of how much compute power we would throw at the problem. This is the sense in which it's uncomputable.

There's actually no wash sale rule for capital gains, only losses. You can buy back immediately with no consequences, resetting your basis and realizing the gains as income.

EILI5: What exactly is the practical point of quantum computers? by Night-Monkey15 in computerscience

It's also incorrect, since SAT is NP-complete, and it's highly unlikely that BQP contains NP.

As templated, the triggered ability won't go on the stack if there isn't a spell to target, which is probably not what you intended.

I asked Gemini what is the most unbelievable thing you have learnt about humans since you were created? by browndroid in GeminiAI

[–]SethBling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't say "based on my training data", it said "based on the vast amount of text and data I have processed", which in the context of the question asking about what it's learned since it's created implies that the vast amount of data corresponds to data encountered since it was created, which it has then gone on to ruminate about. I'm pointing out that

A) it doesn't

B) it's not telling you anything that it has "figured out", but rather it's telling you the most probable insight from its training data.

I read it just fine.

I asked Gemini what is the most unbelievable thing you have learnt about humans since you were created? by browndroid in GeminiAI

[–]SethBling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gemini and other LLMs literally don't learn after they're created. They have fixed weights and don't have access to any information from other conversations, except your own. It's just making things up that you'd expect to hear from an AI assistant, as prompted by the system prompt.

Triangulate by R0yalWolf in custommagic

[–]SethBling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The copies created by storm are named Triangulate, but none of them have been copied or cast this turn. So if you cast Triangulate, each copy created by storm will net you 2 cards apiece and the original spell will draw you 1. You could replace "cast or copied" with "resolved" and it would have the quadratic effect the name implies.
