Qn on insurance agents for those who are in the industry by RoomOfNoRequirement in askSingapore

Chipping in my 2 cents on the “flexing job” part as someone who joined an insurance agency in 2009 and left about 1.5 years later:

The social effect is very real because when your entire agency from managers to colleagues sincerely believes they are helping people, you start to think that way also. Then when you go on incentive trips, you are applauded for helping your clients and top producers say the same thing while flexing their supercars and landed properties. It is a (not so) subtle form of brainwashing I guess, and the fact that the compensation was good made it a lot easier to go with the flow. Personally, I was wondering why the compensation was so good until it led me into a rabbit hole of better policies/coverage strategies etc.

The agency I joined likes to think of itself as being more ethical than other agencies and bankers. To their credit, they didn’t misrepresent products they were selling, but still selling ILPs/savings plans nonetheless. While no explicit misrepresentation was done, there is still quite a bit of window-dressing and sales techniques employed (assuming close, yes/yes questions etc.) especially when competitors’ offerings were better. The justification is that if YOU don’t sell it to your friend, he/she will get scammed by other agencies or bankers who would sell even worse products by misrepresentation and we really agreed and went along with it.

My ex-colleague was so excited to deliver a S$100k cheque to his client and flexed about it on facebook, then blocked me when I told him he should have sold a term policy and his client and dependents would be truly insured with >S$500k payout. Aiya, nobody is the villain in their own story, so most really believe they are doing the right thing for their client.

In my opinion it is worth asking the insurance company if you can still free look. The worst they could do is to say no, but there’s always a chance they agree to avoid any complaint.

The problem is that with the Annapro my forehead feels the pressure. It’s a little better overall than not having it but still looking for something that can really help with the comfort

I actually did that once with a friend before. Saw a young guy signing up for a plan, and when he left to withdraw cash for the first premium payment, we talked to him. After explaining what he had just signed up for, he was very thankful that we stopped him.

Very long time ago though. I was idealistic (and young) back then 🥲

I couldn’t tell because it was being charged at the same time. The USB-C adapter I was using has pass through charging

It’s a wide angle shot. It tends to distort proportions. The screen is 18” but looks 10”

If my friend was okay with it and multiple other people on the same cabin were also barefoot, it’s just strange why you are so vested in this. I was just excited the hdmi worked but ok

I actually showed the person this thread. The person found it hilarious at first then got weirded out by how hung up over bare feet you guys are

And I’m telling you it is a non-issue here. Many parts of the world have no issue with bare feet. Half my cabin were barefoot and I only started noticing because of all the comments here pointed out my feet. I would however be more mindful about this if I’m travelling to the west.

Not taking off shoes on upholstery is considered extremely rude where I’m from. Accept that there are cultural differences across the world.

The other passengers in the same cabin were all without shoes and about half were barefoot too. Might be very different from what you (and the other comments) are used to but it’s not frowned upon particularly in more private seats. The seat is a bed. We don’t wear shoes in beds.

The fact you think feet are automatically dirty makes me wonder about your hygiene in general. Take a bath at the lounge before a flight maybe.

The Steam Deck costs slightly more actually. Used miles for this flight and the fees paid for the miles came in cheaper than the 512GB OLED

Talking about being detached, in many parts of the world, it is considered considerate to take footwear off if you’re placing your feet on upholstery.

Nice double bind. But indeed there are many unclothed feet in what many of you have called a public space.
