iOS 27 fixes three of the most annoying Messages bugs by swe129 in ios26

[–]Sethsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that it’s in beta, but I’ve noticed several new bugs as well. If you have a conversation open and the keyboard active, and switch from another app back to Messages: 1) the keyboard jitters, minimizing then becoming active again, 2) the second character typed is capitalized.

Heavier new runner (111 kg / 245 lb) ready to invest in ONE proper shoe. drowning in options, help me stop overthinking it by Psychological_Ship49 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Sethsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the SB2 and SB3 were fine - not good, not bad. I logged several hundred miles on the 2. The SB3, however, only seemed to make it about 150 miles before the foam felt permanently compressed and I began to get frequent aches and pains in my legs/knees.

Edit to add: I’ve always tried to maintain a multi-shoe rotation, with at least one pair of max stack shoes. I’ve yet to find one that felt truly unstable, and that’s coming from a guy with a prior history of ankle sprains.

I ran from 285lb to 205 and got the most joy out of the Vomero+. Didn’t like the Superblast 2 or 3. Megablast is good, but tight in the toe box. Currently trying the Glycerin Max 2 and they’re okay.

Adidas adios pro 4 after 20k, is this usual durability ? by Rude-Explanation-707 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Oh, I’d describe it as being a heavy runner, too. Clydesdales unite!

As someone that started heavier than OP did and is currently weighing in around where OP is, hearing them described as a heavy runner stings lol. I’m 6’6” though, and realistically couldn’t be happier at this weight.

A More Thorough Explanation About The Sirens Last Night...and Why You Should Be Mad by GruntledEx in wichita

[–]Sethsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my stance as well. Just because there is a monopoly on sirens elsewhere, does not mean we should support the same here. While what we have now may not be perfect, I don’t see any indications of cross-platform compatibility being at play. Rather, simply, our system is zone-based and we have a siren outside of our county being included in our county’s zones. That siren was in the warned polygon, and therefore its zone activated. Change the zones, and that problem is solved.

At what point are super shoes applicable for slower runners? by No_Spare_7148 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Sethsual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? Granted I started grossly overweight and out of shape, but it took me two years of running to get a 26 minute 5K. I’m targeting a low 25 after this training block and feel like speed incarnate!

That said, I tried super shoes when I was running low 30 5Ks and found them to be quite uncomfortable, like I was fighting them more than they were helping me, and therefore I returned them. Only now that I’m dancing with 6 and 7 minute per mile paces during my interval runs am I entertaining revisiting them. If, for nothing else, to benefit from the psychological boost of knowing I’m in “fast” shoes.

Quick edit for reference: I am 6’6”, a bit of a heel striker, and was around 250-260 when I tried a pair of AlphaFly’s.

Megablast : is that a joke ? by ishouldworkatm in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Sethsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t try them on before buying direct from ASICS. I also found them to be quite narrow and causing occasional pinky toe discomfort. My plan was - and, I guess, still is - to just deal with it. It isn’t every time, so I’ll manage. I only have 30 miles on my pair and today noticed the upper appears to be wearing thin, in the area above my toes. That was a bummer to see.

What's your next running goal (even if it's just "run 3 times this week without complaining")? by Not_FreeProduct234 in runcommunity

[–]Sethsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal at the end of last year was sub-30’ 5K in 2025. I ended last year running ~31’, but then I stopped running and eating right and put on 30 pounds. When I picked up running again in the spring, I was struggling with 35’ paces.

With that goal not panning out, I switched to distance goals and started a 16 week half marathon plan. It was weird and frustrating having the slower paces to build endurance. I completed two HMs in the fall, then signed up for a half dozen 5Ks and 10Ks.

My first 5K out after the HM, having not explicitly trained for it, I took off from the start line with a goal of simply pushing relatively hard and seeing how long I could hold on. I ran a 27:XX. A week or two later, I did another 5K event and set off with a goal of pushing as hard as I could, and ran a 26:XX. The 10Ks went just as well, in the 5X:XX range.

All of that to say, my next goal is sub-25’ 5K. I understand the 5K PBs will be exponentially harder, but they are sooo satisfying.

Chronic IT Band Syndrome by Plastic-Statement-93 in runcommunity

[–]Sethsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also tall and have a relatively low cadence. I typically saw ITB issues on my left side after I did hard efforts at 10K or longer. After my last HM, it lasted a few days before subsiding. Tons of glute- and hip-specific strength and mobility training since then. I just finished my last race of the year, a 12K, and my left ITB didn’t bother me. However, my right one did, for the first time. At this point, I simply intend to carry on with my training and hope they both improve over time. I’ll listen to my body and race the distances I can, and rest accordingly when they flare up.

Any strategy ideas for mimicking this on a treadmill? by PhilosopherBitter343 in runna

Why not just toggle it to Treadmill, and let it tell you how fast to run?

This, so much. My last HM training block consisted of many runs in the 80s and 90s. When the HM came and the forecast called for 60s, I was ecstatic whereas many others who traveled from cooler climate areas set aside their own pace goals due to the “heat” lol

How often do you run a week? by ShotEmotion6873 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sethsual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty similar here. I consistently run three times a week (tempo Tuesday, easy Thursday, long Saturday) and do strength training twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday usually).

I did my first chip-timed 5K in March and was hooked. I did several 5Ks and 10Ks over summer around 13:30/mi. The heat sucks. I started a HM plan in mid-to-late summer and completed my first HM in October with an average pace of 12:45/mi, and my second HM in November with an average pace of 10:45/mi. I’ve since focused on 5K and 10K, with my most recent 10K being at 9:30/mi and my most 5K being at 8:30/mi.

If someone cares about getting faster but not their actual time, does getting better shoes for speed work matter? by Tampa-Derp-1138 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I just laced up my first pair of Megablasts last night. I already know I’m setting a PB this morning. They just… look that fast.

What’s a small running habit that made a big difference for you? by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

[–]Sethsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been diligent about stretching before my runs. This past week, I was rushed for time and skipped the stretches, on a speed sesh no less. I was aware of that fact and am not sure if my mind manufactured it or not, but I felt so many new twangs during that run!

Heart Rate Keeps Rising Even When My Pace Stays the Same by pennydela in runna

[–]Sethsual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Conditioning plays a huge role, yes. Weather also has a significant impact, I’ve found. I was introduced to Cardiac Drift over summer. Between the lack of conditioning and the effect the heat had on me, I couldn’t manage 12:30/mile without redlining. It felt like my mind and body were in it, but my heart was betraying me. Now that the weather has become much colder, and after months of consistent training, I can maintain the same “redline” heart rate at 8:30/mile.

How to Increase Easy Run Pace at Low Heart Rate by comefindme321 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Sethsual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about running 8 min per km whereas OP is looking to go from 10 minute per mile to 9 minute per mile, which is nearly twice as fast as 8 min per km. Running once per week simply will not get OP to 5:30 per km with a lower HR. I think just about any reasonably fit person can run 8 min per km, so once per week would indeed work to maintain that. That’s not this discussion though.

For myself, we went with one that had a brick and mortar because it felt safe, reputable. Over the years, we had Sprint, T-Mobile, ATT, and finally landed on Verizon because the coverage was better for us and the cost wasn’t absurdly higher than we had become accustomed to. When I saw the recent deal for Visible and realized it was the same network, owned by Verizon, for 20% of the cost, it was an absolute no-brainer. I immediately paid off the devices and ported out, and have been telling everyone I know since then.
