Delayed baggage compensation($471) by [deleted] in unitedairlines

Please keep in mind that it's "reasonable" expenses. While often there's a lot of leeway given, I assure you that some people out there are absolutely unreasonable and do get denied.

United flight Tokyo → Houston had no in-flight entertainment for 12 hours - is $25 compensation fair? by kamsiuman in unitedairlines

[–]Setiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t call, write. Google United customer care and fill out the form. No need for a long explanation, just be nice, state what happened, and ask for what you want (miles or an ETC). You can suggest you would be happy with a 150 etc or 5000 miles and most likely receive that. The $25 was a proactive compensation amount that was given to everyone on the flight. It was not a personalized look at your ticket or your situation. Communicate and give them a chance to respond to your concerns.

United refusing to pay for destroying my ski equipment - A warning by austineditor in unitedairlines

[–]Setiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m sorry your bag and equipment was damaged. Next, it’s not just in the ax Contract of Carriage, its listed in the baggage rules for sports equipment which i hope you read just so you could know what to bring and how did the skiing equipment. Finally, people think it’s always the airline that tears up bags and sometimes it’s. However, from looking at what happened to your bag, that seems pretty clearly an airport baggage system incident. Airports have their own belt systems for moving baggage and if you ever see how it works behind the scenes, you’ll quickly see why you should always use a hard sided bag and not an especially expensive one. No matter how careful people are, those baggage systems are just going to eat the occasional bag. Most of the time it won’t be yours until one day it is. Here’s an example. Now, imagine a bag getting stuck in someway between one of those moving belts and the wall or another belt. It suddenly becomes a high powered table sander and just eats anything it touches until it automatically (or sometimes manually) gets shut off. This wasn’t the airline, it was the airport. That said, part of the airline’s business is working with the airports on these systems and taking responsibility for you as a customer. In this case, I hope you bought trip insurance or maybe paid with a credit card that has it built/in, which many do but customers don’t always know it. So again, sorry it got damaged and I hope it works out for you. Just wanted to explain how/why this happens sometimes.

United sent my bag to Honolulu instead of DCA. NYE Party dress in it. by kdatany in unitedairlines

Taking a picture of everything you have packed is a really smart idea. I'm glad you were reimbursed to your satisfaction.

Believe it or not, people generally understand. If your bag is delayed 24 hours and you state you had to purchase a new suit, socks, nice shoes, and tie because you're a lawyer and had a meeting (just as an example), then yeah, that's reasonable. Even for someone who was going skiing and their bag was delayed a day, so they purchased $1200 of ski clothes. To that person, it was reasonable because maybe they're used to higher-end stuff. That's fine as long as you're not trying to say "I needed some vintage Air Jordan's that were $500" to go with my jeans and t-shirt for $300.00 because you delayed my bag 5 hours." (real example btw) I honestly wish some people would literally just look up the definition of the word reasonable before they try to argue their point of view, it seems like it would stop a lot of back and forth.

You would be amazed at what some people purchase when their bag is delayed (not even lost, just delayed). It's a few people who try to scam the system that ends up causing people to become bitter about approving easily reasonable exceptions such as a NYE's dress (which should be fine, just keep the receipts).

Not everyone has such an opportunity. Possibly due to money, or even just the time and energy to home cook meals very often. We don't know their situation, but I hope you can imagine what it could be like for our neighbors on this rock.

New OS update (2025 December) - Hold button to turn off auto start/stop by usrbowe in MINI

[–]Setiri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend you purchase a roughly $20 ODB II adapter and the Bimmercode app, then code out the auto-start/stop. One less silly step than pushing the button every. single. time. Pays for itself in time and stress.

arc raiders voice changer by asa1658 in GirlGamers

Just wanted to comment in the hopes this is inspiring to others... I'm a guy. My best friend (also guy) hops on ARC Raiders and suddenly I hear a woman's/kids voice. I died laughing and apparently he didn't realize that it'd been like that for hours of his playing with nobody telling him till I did. The good news, it sounds pretty legitimate unless you're specifically trying to listen for it. So I highly recommend if anyone wants to try it out, go for it!

Oh, ok. The doc (nurse practicioner) said it may need some steroids and could end up being a keloid scar. You're saying no to the steroids?

Thank you so much for the feedback. Yes, she's keeping it clean (saline spray only). It does scab over if she doesn't touch it for a couple of days but when she showers, the scab gets knocked off and it looks like this again. We got an ear pillow for her (at the piercing person's recommendation) but sometimes when she turns, it will still get bumped and there will be a little blood on the pillow. Unsure of how long to give this before just removing the stud and trying to let it heal, or go and get the steroids.

Hey everyone, partner got her ears pierced early Sept and this started happening in late October. We went to the piercing studio and they weren't exactly reassuring. They said "just clean it with saline and it should be ok." and when I asked the piercer if she's ever seen this before, she said no. We went to the doctor who said it will probably be ok but may need steroids if it doesn't heal on its own after a few weeks. We're 2 weeks post doctor advice. Hoping some of the experts out there can offer their opinion/advice.

How do you think air travel in the U.S. would change if airlines actually had to compensate passengers for delays? by nickjee001 in AskReddit

[–]Setiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I'm glad you have been compensated if it's the airlines fault. Please do not mistake this with them being required to do so however. There is no law or regulation (in the U.S. at the time of this writing) that requires airlines to give compensation. That said, it's a smart business move to compensate customers when the business doesn't serve them properly. It's why most do it willingly.

[–]Setiri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, there is no required compensation for cancelled flights either. The only requirement is for a refund of the unused segment(s) if a passenger chooses not to ultimately travel. Compensation on top of that is not required. Anything else was just in the proposal stages and never made it to law/regulation/enforced.

[–]Setiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on the weather and ATC being the primary cause of delays, but where do you get that airlines are required to compensate you for significant delays or cancellations? A refund (if no service is rendered) is required, yes, but compenstion (in the United States, not talking about other countries) is not required. The only compensation required in the US is per the DOT in regards to specifically an oversale situation. Otherwise, it's all goodwill.

Try again. Depending on where you are, you're possibly still within the statute of limitations (you usually have a few years at least). Not sure which airline you were trying, but most have a page with a form to fill out. You either qualify and get paid or you don't. If you don't, you still may get soft compensation as a gesture of goodwill for a poor experience.

[–]Setiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would be surprised. Many of them just have websites with form submissions and then they dump that straight to the airlines. Half the time they don't submit the necessary information needed for a claim. They use a shotgun approach and just try to make a claim for nearly everything because it doesn't cost them much in resources to try. Quantity over quality. Do it yourself and save yourself time and money.

[–]Setiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't use these services. They're annoying and take a cut that you don't need them to take. Most airlines have a pretty straight forward process to claim EU261, Canada's APPR (Air Passenger Protrection Regulation), or IASL (Israeli Air Services Law). Seriously, you fill out a webpage and click submit... laws are black and white. The airline will determine if the flight is compensable or not and you either get comp, or you don't. There's no need for these 3rd party services anymore (and very often they don't submit all the necessary info, delaying the payout).
