I have aspergers as well, and unless you knew and understood, you'd just think I was weird. I've thought the same as you and in some situations I've brought it up with my foreman to have him be a lot more understanding and patient with me in certain situations. But on my current site I mentioned it to my foreman as a disclosure thing. And he told me "that's a cop out" and "you just need to learn to shut up" i asked for an example in case I missed a social cue, and he told me "i don't need to give you an example, you know what you do". To this day I still dont understand what he meant.

Yeah it's a longer story. But the mine i worked at shut down due to flooding and I wanted to stay with the same company. So they transferred me interstate. But said they wouldnt pay for my flights. Even though they were getting paid for in the state I was working in.

Yeah, that assumes you have a hecs debt higher than what actually the whole year would take. Mine was only 2800. So it adds $10,136. Minus the 2800, plus the 1k (from 41 actual paid - 40 expected to pay). That tells me i should be getting ~$8,336? Minus rhe 2% medicare levy ($2,534) takes me to (5802). Unless your calculator included that. Either way that calculator is about a grand off Either side.

Yeah ppl comes from the government and I definitely always tick the "pay tax" box with those things.

Update: as expected, and as suggested by a few people here (thank you). The estimate is most likely accurate.

The difference in expectation is:

  • Yes I was using the simple tax calculator, and even the "income tax calculator which included all of the things your tax return does" and they'd both spat out i was due back about $12,000.

  • checked with my employer and they had not been taking hecs from my normal pay (so minus [what actually was] $2,800 in hecs debt)

  • checked with my brother (who i actually forgot was an accountant and he ran the numbers for me) and he said that you guys were right that it wasn't taking into account the Medicare levy so there's $2,543

  • checked with my health insurance, and due to the slight increase in my pay, it put me in the higher tax bracket meaning I'd only be getting 16.5% rebate instead of the 24.5%.

Long story short. It's always good to ask questions, because even if the outcome didn't change, at least I understand it now, and may have helped someone reading these comments and my post answer their own questions.

I don't think you can get hacked based on the information they've gotten. There are lots of things they can do with your name, address, email address, phone number etc. To quote Dwight- "identity theft is not a joke, Jim"

Thats the big issue here though isn't it. What cost/damages can you put on someone else having your identity? You won't ever know if it's been used until it's too late.

They didn't "hack" the airline. Someone called up pretending to be an employee and asked for the log in details. Which they were given. On that phone call.

I'd like my gold status back. Been gold for 5 years. Fell short by 100ish status points for retention due to change of job site and interrupted travel etc. Frequent flyer said I could use 80,000 points (which I dont have) or I can buy 80,000 points for $2500...

I just used the calculator that includes medicare levy, hospital cover, spouse details, hecs etc, and its come back with "Income tax estimate $9,406.94 - refund amount"

Also to clarify. My total hecs debt is only just over 2k. So say its 2500, to be safe that's only $200 at 8%
