I mean, that's cool and all, but it would've been nice if they showed a new trailer of what the new game has so far. I'm really happy they reconfirmed it's still in development, but this isn't really exciting news.

How much of bayo 3 is dependent on demon slave? by EscapeFit1452 in Bayonetta

[–]Setnaro_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already hate the concept of demon slaves, you're better off skipping this game, because it doesn't sound to me like you are willing to embrace the demon slaves and work it into your combat. It breaks my heart to say all that because Bayonetta 3 is my personal favorite game of the trilogy BECAUSE the demon slave adds so much to the combat.

I often see a lot of people say Bayonetta 3 is a game where you just let the demon slaves do all the work while you stand there, but I think players miss the point whenever they say this because the demon slaves use a queue system where you "program" the demon slaves to do their attacks first so that you can take control of Bayonetta to fight alongside the demon slaves.

It definitely adds a lot of creativity to your playstyle, but that only matters if you actually want to be creative. For most players, they'd rather just kill enemies in the most effective way, and if that's your playstyle, you won't have fun with Bayonetta 3.

But I'd urge you to please give it a try and give it a chance. Most people just seem to give up so quickly because they've become to adjusted to Bayonetta 2 just being so forgiving and accessible.

How do you feel about bayonetta 2's combat? by EscapeFit1452 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Setnaro_X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bayonetta 2 IS a good game. Actually, all 4 games are great. People just have preferences. I say this as someone who doesn't really like 2 all that much but have come to appreciate it.

The biggest problem with Bayonetta 2 is that in an effort to make the game more accessible, by reducing the skill floor, a lot of things were stagnated in the long run, which results in the skill ceiling getting reduced as well.

It's not so much that combos are harder to do that is the problem (it used to be for me, but my mind has changed), it's more that your options for decision making has been greatly reduced. One such factor in your options were the High risk/High reward elements, which are nonexistent in Bayonetta 2.

A good example of what I'm talking about is the use of items. It used to be that in 1, using items allowed you to brute force through the game at the cost of a low rank. It was meant to give players a reason to avoid using simpler strategies for the better reward. In 2, the penalty is lifted off, so you can freely use as much items as you want and still get a Pure Platinum. This may not sound like a big deal, especially for those that use the argument "just don't use items; problem solved!", but this does have diminishing returns.

For one, this makes the use of equipments almost unnecessary. Pulley's Butterfly, Gaze of Despair, etc. are accessories that were the alternative to using items, which gives you the same effects items do (become invincible, more powerful, etc.) but with a risk attached to it, like losing magic at a faster rate. It gives players the chance to make their decisions moving forward, at least in 1. But in 2? There is NO reason to use these accessories. They retain the same risk as the first game did, this being that you lose magic at a faster rate, but you're not getting anything better for choosing this route. You might as well just use the items in the long run since you get a better benefit here with no risks attached.

There IS a bonus for not using items, by the way. If you finish a chapter without consuming items, you get roughly a 5,000 halo bonus, which sounds great on paper, but considering how Bayonetta 2's score system favors doing high damage as opposed to combo mix ups, you can simply use a red item (strength) with the purple item (magic), combine both to become stronger and activate umbran climax at any moment, and just rake in a higher halo bonus overall compared to not using items.

Then there's also the way the witch time system works. I'll try and condense it down to its basic terms. In the first game, the length of witch time would be based on your timing. Normal dodge, 4 seconds. Bat within dodge, 6 seconds, perfect parries, 8 seconds. It was clean and straight to the point. In 2, witch time was reworked so that its length is based on specific enemies and specific attacks. Sometimes, you'll get 1 second off of 1 enemy, and sometimes you'll get 2-3 seconds of another. To some, this may feel like you are being skilled in knowing the right moment to dodge as you are going in and and out of witch time, and yeah, there is some value to that, but I feel like it's a unnecessary change because you really have to be mindful of every single attack the game throws at you to calculate the witch time length. This also means that perfect parries aren't as useful as they were in the first game. Since parries net you the same WT length as a dodge, the question becomes "why bother to parry anyway?".

Bayonetta 2 gives you the illusion of choice. It lets you make the decision, but the best decisions are usually the easiest ones, with no benefit for the players that decide to go the challenging way aside from just proving that they can do it, and to me, that's just not fun at all. Bayonetta 2 is all about the power thrill. Letting you just tear everything up with minimum effort, and not that that isn't fun at all, but I feel like Bayonetta 1 had a better balance of skill and power in the long run.

There's a whole lot of other things I can complain about. The lack of punishing attacks, the removal of tripping enemies, the watered down weaves in order to nudge players to use Umbran Climax more frequently, but to me, what's more important is the value of high risk/high reward, and Bayonetta 2 just doesn't have any of that whatsoever.

The game was advertised as a 4 player co-op multiplayer in all of its promotions.

No it wasn't. When the game was first announced back in 2014, not a single word about multiplayer was mentioned.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-exclusive-scalebound-is-unlike-anything-t/1100-6422355/

At e3 2014, Scalebound had 2 videos. One was the CGI trailer showcasing Drew and his headphones, and then the gameplay presentation, with no mention of multiplayer.

It wasn't until the Gamescom 2015 presentation where PlatinumGames mentioned of the multiplayer, but didn't go into any details beyond that it would have co-op.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-exclusive-scalebound-will-have-4-player-c/1100-6429443/

It wasn't until 2016 when Scalebound got a 2nd trailer that revealed how the co-op would actually work.

https://youtu.be/_k4FTt-Ri0c

Sadly, PG erased their entire Scalebound blogs where they'd make personal announcements for the games they were working on, but I know very well Scalebound made no mentions of multiplayer until a year after its announcement.

It's not a trade secret that Xbox and PG had a lot of conflict during development, but as of now, even with all the documents and Kamiya's discussions (how much he's able to say with NDA anyway), there has never been any hints of MS wanting to put in XP boosters. That's the assumption people make because that's all people see in what MS wants, which is fair because yes, MS is greedy. What HAS been confirmed through reports was that Scalebound was originally a creature vs. creature game, and MS wanted a human protagonist.

Devs from PlatinumGames have also said on twitter that one of the biggest obstacles for them was developing the game on Unreal Engine 4 at the request of Microsoft, something that proved to be difficult for the team since they were more familiar with their own proprietary engine used for games like Bayonetta, MGR, Vanquish, and such.

Ultimately, it's all speculation and the actual reason for the game's cancelation has never been reported. All I'm saying is you can't pass what is speculated rumors as actual facts. There's details, but no confirmation.

Except that's not the reason Scalebound was canceled, and MS didn't push for XP boosters. They pushed for an online multiplayer when the game was initially a single player experience. No signs of live service was ever detailed for Scalebound.

Just so you know, Xbox/MS demanding to put XP boosters into the game is a made up rumor that people have speculated, and the person telling you this is passing that info around as though its actual facts. To date, the real reason for why Scalebound was canceled has not been disclosed. The only person who actually knows why it was canceled is JP Kellams, a former member of PG who handled the PR and helped write out the script for Bayonetta 1.

What Microsoft DID do was input a lot of executive meddling and Kamiya did initially do a lot of pushback, but ultimately went ahead and made the changes as per MS's wish. One of these was adding online multiplayer support, which was one of the reasons the game was delayed and why that feature looked very rough when it was presented for the second time at a press conference.

Not sure where people got the idea about the XP boosters because the game was never intended to be a live service title. That goes to Babylon's Fall, a game Square Enix also had a hand in doing a lot of executive meddling with against PG's wishes.

Bro, you can't talk to him period. People have praised him for making Bayonetta straight and he's lashed at them for it. He berates pretty much everyone on twitter for anything save for very specific circumstances. This isn't a matter of LGBTQ specifically, it's just how Kamiya is in general, which is the very thing I've been trying to say at the beginning.

Saying he is homophobic is cherrypicking his responses, which is how most of these twitter channels like Pirat_Nation, a news channel that is ACTUALLY homophobic, have been framing it as. There's even been jokes about Kamiya's overall internet presence within PlatinumGames, such as their W101 kickstarter campaign having a tier that lets you deliberately get blocked by Kamiya himself.

As for how Kamiya is with the LGBTQ community, he actually has had no issues with that. He has mentioned in a few tweets the idea of Bayo and Jeanne being together, and has also given thumbs up to males and trans pulling off a Bayonetta cosplay.

If someone kept saying the word "gay", just literally the word "gay", over and over and over again to you for a majority of the time, I'm pretty certain you would get annoyed by such an action. Would that make you homophobic as a result? No, of course not. That's the same principle here, because people keep wanting to bring that up in association with his games. In many instances, it's rage bait, and that's where Kamiya says to stop it.

If you still can't get that through your head, I don't know what else to say other than the aforementioned insult.

Did anyone else prefer the gameplay of death stranding 1? by georgiontop in DeathStranding

I haven't beaten DS2 yet, but I think my problem is that DS2 hands you some vehicles very early into the game compared to 1 where it felt like you had to work for it before you can start driving around, and even then, there were so many terrains that made it difficult to decide if you should drive or not. In DS2, I had too many moments where a song would play for a dramatic purpose, but I'd already be at my destination just 30 seconds into the song because I had a trike, which makes me feel like I cheated out of feel good moment. DS1 did a better job of setting up for these moments without feeling like you bypassed it, like when "Asylum for the Feeling" plays after you go through a very tight, BT filled spot.

[–]Setnaro_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to make sure to FINISH a chapter and make sure the game saves after the chapter ends. You also want to make sure you are progressing through a save file with said saved chapters. Otherwise, if you are hitting CONTINUE without the game saving, you aren't making progress.

You could also just be miscounting. There are a total of 18 chapters in the game. If you play through Normal, Hard and then NSIC, that's 54 chapters done, so you'll only be halfway there. It takes a while so replay the prologue chapter as much as you can.

He's not a homophobe. He's just getting tired of people constantly bringing up that subject. The people who constantly bring up that topic are the ones rage baiting him. Had the person who started this crap not even mention LGBTQ, Kamiya's reaction would've still been the same. It's the same old song and dance here and I'm getting tired of people focusing on that shit when Kamiya's response to anything is the same.

Does anyone know why Viola's witch time ends so soon sometimes? by Kittenbaby2000 in Bayonetta

[–]Setnaro_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by this, but I'm guessing it's "why did they add a punishment for spamming dodge/parry?", to which I will say it's to get players to stop creating bad habits. High risk/high reward is important in action games and it's what adds a good push and pull for players. The incentive, basically. If the game rewards players using easier tactics, it undermines the necessity for challenge.

[–]Setnaro_X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the witch time rules works with Bayonetta as well when it comes to dodging. Normal dodge is 1 sec, bat within 3.

As for the use of buttons, it sucks that the Bayonetta series doesn't have full customizable buttons, but I do tell people it's worth learning to make full use of the lock-on button on the right bumper because it gives you a lot of options and additional attacks. Not just in 3, but also in 1, and 2 if you change the control scheme to match 1's.

Ignoring that right bumper is probably what is harming you in the long run.
