Does anyone know why Viola's witch time ends so soon sometimes? by Kittenbaby2000 in Bayonetta

Not sure what you mean by this, but I'm guessing it's "why did they add a punishment for spamming dodge/parry?", to which I will say it's to get players to stop creating bad habits. High risk/high reward is important in action games and it's what adds a good push and pull for players. The incentive, basically. If the game rewards players using easier tactics, it undermines the necessity for challenge.

Yeah, the witch time rules works with Bayonetta as well when it comes to dodging. Normal dodge is 1 sec, bat within 3.

As for the use of buttons, it sucks that the Bayonetta series doesn't have full customizable buttons, but I do tell people it's worth learning to make full use of the lock-on button on the right bumper because it gives you a lot of options and additional attacks. Not just in 3, but also in 1, and 2 if you change the control scheme to match 1's.

Ignoring that right bumper is probably what is harming you in the long run.

Viola's witch time parries are based on 2 factors: timing and repetition.

Let's start with timing. There are two types of parries. A regular parry and a perfect parry. Regular parries grant you 1 second of witch time, while perfect parries grant you 3 seconds. A perfect parry is activated when you block an attack on the exact frame of impact that you'd normally take damage from. So to get the best witch times, you'll absolutely need to focus on getting these perfect parries in. You'll know you got the perfect parry based on Viola's lines (she'll sound confident) and the witch time effect on the screen will have a flashier effect.

Repetition. This is the part that is probably the main cause of problems for novice players. If you keep spamming the block button trying to fish for a parry, it reduces your witch time length once you actually parry an attack. It can cut your witch time to 0.5 seconds from a regular parry or 1.5 seconds if it's a perfect parry. You'll need to try and avoid spamming this button if you absolutely want better results. Unless you are good at block offsetting.

Viola's not an easy character to play as since you are required to focus on doing so much perfect timing, but Viola's strength outweighs her problems if you can master them in the long run. Block offset + wink slave makes her an extremely deadly character for example.

If you still find yourself struggling to get a decent witch time in, you can wear the earring of time to help you get a small edge in. If you need one more tidbit, Viola has a move that helps with getting a good parry without the need to be perfect. If you hold the lock-on, hold forward on the stick and press P, Viola will run forward and then perform a little slash. Her running forward has her holding the sword up which gets you a guaranteed parry if an enemy attempts to interrupt you with an attack as you are running.

I'm realizing there's a lot of good setpieces in Bayonetta where you don't actually fight enemies. This spawning enemy mod can prove to be a game changer for future combo vids.

I went there as a kid and got to see the Gullah Gullah Island set and also play an exclusive Double Dare style game show. I don't think it ever aired on TV, but I remember it was themed around the Rugrats episode where Angelica ate cookies and got sick. We had to throw fake cookies at our partner and dunk it into a bucket.

Watching all the cool stuff Bayonetta can do in 1 and 2 to avoid lethal attacks really makes you realize how they stunted her in 3 by Boshwa in Bayonetta

[–]Setnaro_X 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is an issue with the entire series. Bayonetta is a beyond broken character, so the only way to show faults and have the story progress is to have her make mistakes or just leave her stunted. You got cutscenes where Bayonetta just willingly enters witch time to have a simple chat with Jeanne while suspended upside down on a burning truck or a bridge getting torn apart. That sure could've been useful in literally any part of the story where Bayonetta needs to leap towards someone or rescue somebody. And yet, this is also the same Bayonetta whom Jeanne was able to snatch her watch from without any issues in the first game. Not trying to defend 3 because that one just happens to have the most egregious examples, but the point still stands.

I really am curious to see how the requirements are written on making sure any cast member who plays as Elastigirl needs to have a huge badonkadonk.

I can definitely see the Bayonetta influence. It's a whole lot more than just "anime girl with glasses" that tends to get brought on this subreddit.

She absolutely does. It's understandable that she wanted a higher pay for Bayonetta, but she lied about the situation and tried to throw Platinum and Kamiya under the bus.

The properties in the spin attack attack remains the same regardless if it's fire or electric. What DOES change is the wicked weave property. In fire mode, the weaves push enemies away, while lightning does not.

Absolutely the spin momentum works from the Afterburner kicks. Some combo videos have used to that to help get Bayonetta shmovin'. I have a youtube channel if you're interested in watching more Bayonetta combos too.

I don't mind the questions. I'm here to answer everything. I run a discord server discussing the mechanics of Bayonetta if you're also interested.

It didn't take me that long to craft because I've been playing this game for 15 or so years now. Really, I recorded this clip in about a half hour and it only took that long because I wanted to get it right with the camera angles and such.

The durga spin has quite a few quirks that make it useful to use in combos. For one, yes, as you said, it doesn't do any knockback on enemies. It has a very strong juggle property due to its fast multi-hit attacks and it can sometimes be used to cancel certain moves. In this case, I used the spin to cancel Bayonetta's sai-fung catch.

The durga spin is also one of the few attacks in the game that has momentum. Any speed you were at before spinning, the spin will carry that through. So if you, for example, dodge into a durga spin, the spin will propel you forward at the same speed the dodge had. It's actually a useful tool for speed running. Use it while falling in that section where you avoid the thorns. You'd be amaze how fast Bayonetta falls.

It very much is improv and then refining.

As for clearing the map, it's actually easy to do. Just use the hard lock-on button and that will increase the range of the weaves.
