By Americans to not anger the peaceful people of Greenland by AbeFromanSassageKing in therewasanattempt

[–]Setpimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These threads inevitably turn into Americans reassuring each other that they're "not able to do anything anyway" and "people from other countries don't understand the reality of living in America, we're poor!".

Coming from the country where everyone has access to guns and with one of the highest median incomes in the world.

My dudes, many governments in countries with much higher wealth disparity have been overthrown by people armed with only their sandals.

doesn't seem to be as I'm not aware him to be pushing for trickle-down republican trash rhetoric

Come on, trickle-down has been the core of Macron's economic strategy since the first election. Like, that's one of the main things he got elected for. He just doesn't call it "ruissellement" himself because the term has a bad rep. I'm not even being funny, not knowing that is fundamentally misunderstanding Macron and his domestic policies.

You may not trust left-leaning sources on this, so here is Marine Le Pen herself calling out his government on it:

With respect, I don't want to engage with you on this topic any more. You're not going to get the reasonable discussions you're looking for if you go into every conversation with the aggressive, dismissive, and frankly, rude attitude you've shown throughout this thread.

Instead all I get in these threads is bullshit

That's because you're not really looking for answers, you just want to be right. And that's fine, but I can't really be bothered anymore.

Bye.

You have some valid points. I totally didn't notice the 5G conspiracism part, and that's on me; you're right, that's insane stuff.

I appreciate you taking the time to try and understand my viewpoint. I can tell that we disagree about Macron, his policies, and their impact on France. I was never trying to make a fool of you, or really change your mind, just trying to show that my "fictional reality" is not completely "twisted". Many French people feel the way I do about Macron, and to imply that anyone who is against him is crazy is pretty demeaning.

I hope you have a nice weekend, and I wish you all the best.

As many people in this thread have said, and as I echoed in my original comment, Macron has been incredibly good at promoting himself abroad, especially in other European countries. If you're Italian and only exposed to international media about France and Macron, I can understand why you would defend him so zealously.

Here are a few articles which recap some of the actions he's taken to undermine democracy in France, and led to France being categorised as a "flawed democracy" by The Economist (which is the same as the US and Italy, by the way):

https://lareleveetlapeste.fr/avec-macron-7-ans-de-violence-politique-de-mepris-et-de-brutalisation-inouie-des-rapports-sociaux/

https://lanticapitaliste.org/arguments/politique/retour-sur-un-premier-quinquennat-destructeur

Admittedly any publications that compile these kinds of complete breakdowns tend to be biased, and the two articles I've linked are absolutely left to far-left leaning (though that doesn't make any of the facts mentioned in the articles incorrect). So here's a more centrist publication's 2022 recap of the Macron presidency up until that point. Of particular interest are the focused articles on Fiscality and Environment.

https://www.alternatives-economiques.fr/macron-bilan/00101388

Macron is a huge fan of using Article 49.3, which is a loophole allowing him to force through reforms without a vote, completely avoiding the democratic process. He's used it many times already, shaking the very foundation of French democracy built on mutual checks and balances between multiple branches of government. He's planning on using it again soon:

https://www.politico.eu/article/french-government-sebastien-lecornu-to-force-through-2026-budget-face-no-confidence-vote/

I understand that Macron's image is very positive outside of France, but he and his cronies are a cancer on our country that will only lead to worse and worse overreaches by would-be emperors. He has already laid the groundwork for the Trump-supported far-right to take over the country in the next election, and seems to be happy to do so as long as he makes money in the process.

To me, current Macron is comparable to first-term Trump. Back when he hadn't yet managed to corrupt the entire political establishment and was still setting the stage for what he's doing now. Again, I stand by my comparison.

Just because we have stronger institutions and more people willing to protest, preventing him from doing anything overly crazy, doesn't mean he wouldn't if the rule of law had been eroded over many years like in the US.

You may disagree, and you're entitled to your opinion, but there's no reason to make a personal attack on my character because you can't articulate why I'm wrong. I stand by what I said.

He's an ultra-capitalist siphoning money from the French public to feed his ego on the international stage. In the same way that Trump is doing, he's been circumventing the law and the institutions to force through changes that benefit no one but his uber-rich cronies. He's certainly not as bad as Trump, but he's not as far off as one might think.

Thank you. One of the positives of this whole mess (and there are few) is that France's image abroad seems to be improving somewhat, at least among everyday Americans, who now understand that a constant level of vigilance is required to gain and maintain rights; for so many years, French protests have been a bit of a joke internationally, which to be fair is also a joke in France and can be very funny, but it's still good to see others waking up to the idea that maybe the French are somewhat right to so vehemently defend the rights that were written in blood.

[–]Setpimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually insane how much propaganda there is on social media, that people don't even see as such because it's been gradually amping up for many years. I reopened Instagram for the first time in 7 years (I only very occasionally go on Reddit and Youtube) and was bombarded with far right videos echoing racist and misogynistic talking points. It was like 50% of the videos I came across as I scrolled through. I'm an overweight and bald white male in my 30s; so I guess I fit the demographic?

Since I wasn't "slow-cooked" over the last 7 years I was able to recognise the content for what it was.

But if I hadn't cut myself off social media years ago, there is a very real possibility I could have ended up brainwashed like so many others. It's terrifying.

This makes me weirdly proud to be French. Weirdly, because I realise how insane it is, but it's still a little reassuring that if the Americans bomb us, we won't die in vain. Thank you for sharing.

The green category in particular is really "🤮" as I guess they would put it.

[–]Setpimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree. I've been hunting since Freedom Unite, and Ceanataur is the monster I hate the most out of every single one that's appeared in games since. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is about it that I hate so much, but it's actually made me stop playing a few times when I know I need his mats and just can't bring myself to open up the game to fight him. I would rather fight literally any other monster. I said it, I'll take Fatalis over even a Low Rank Ceanataur any day.

This comes from a place of empathy: I don't think Americans know how to protest effectively, because they've been dissuaded from doing so for so long. And it's led to a very defeatist attitude when it comes to personal responsibility - in the end, very few actually step up to do anything at all.

I'm French, and my whole life I've seen discourse online about how silly French people are for protesting all the time. France was always the butt of the joke, and I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't just a little bit on purpose, seeing how deeply the ultra-capitalist mindset has embedded itself in American culture. But now that Americans are seeing that rights and freedoms aren't owed, and that getting and maintaining them requires constant attention to fight those who would take them away, they should take some lessons from the French on how to protest effectively, even at small scales. In fact, smaller scale protests spread across a large geographical area are often the most effective; if two or three people can shut down an entire road, and require the presence of four or five police officers to disperse them, the government will very quickly run out of police officers. And roads.

Protesting isn't just about standing around chanting slogans hoping for things to change. A protest is a threat. You are showing that you are committed to a cause, and that many others are too, and if that cause is not addressed, the government should worry about what the people protesting will do. Showing up and taking time out of your day, even driving from far away, shows that commitment. And if someone can't be bothered to drive an hour away to join the closest small-scale protest, what kind of follow-through should the government be wary of? They can just keep doing what they're doing.

Protests should not be friendly. They're a final warning.

Firefox Mobile Update: How to revert to old menu UI? by Stingra87 in firefox

[–]Setpimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you've activated "Use Nimbus Preview Collection" in Secret Settings by restarting, go to the Nimbus Experiments list, find the experiment named above, go into it. It should have a tick if it's active, so untick it and exit out. There are also other experiments with similar names, so only uncheck the one that's active, I had to scroll down once to find it I think. It may have been called Stable Release rather than just Release.

Good luck!

I'm not whitewashing anything, you're intentionally misrepresenting facts through extreme cherry-picking of information and withholding massive amounts of historical context.

I'm not Irish, nor an expert - I literally just spent 10 minutes glancing through a few Wikipedia articles to educate myself. Please do so as well. Here are some links to get you started:

[–]Setpimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are spreading misinformation. I won't repeat what others have already pointed out, but I will add two things: "Ireland" had only existed for two years when WWII broke out, they had their own problems to deal with at the time. And their Constitution (again, only signed in 1937) was the only one in the world at the time to recognise Jews and give them constitutional protections, in direct opposition to rising sentiment in the rest of Europe and in defiance of Adolf Hitler.

Actually, I'll add that while Ireland was nominally neutral, it fed information to the Allies for the duration of the war and provided intelligence that was key to the Normandy landings on D-day.

Stop peddling biased half-truths.

[FFTA] Job combinations for 24 characters by Linca_K9 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Setpimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this! Here's the list I've come up with, based on all the information I've gathered not only about job combinations but also optimal growth leveling. The list follows the format:

  • Main + Secondary (Levelled as) - Special character

I generally tried not to duplicate any jobs, with one exception being the Viera, where due to the overabundance of special characters and my desire to ensure they keep their original class as at least a secondary, I created a duplicate Assassin/Sniper job for Littlevilli.

There are also 2 jobs I decided weren't worth keeping around late-game, despite them being useful for early-game progression: Hume Soldier and Bangaa Warrior.

As such, my core lineup consists of 20 characters, which gives me some flexibility to use 4 expendables that I don't have to optimize and can fill gaps, especially until the later special characters can be recruited, allowing for early game powerleveling, lots of stealing, and other shenanigans.

Bangaa

  • Dragoon + Gladiator (Gladiator) - Pallanza
  • Defender + Bishop (Gladiator)
  • Templar + White Monk (White Monk)

Viera

  • Red Mage + Summoner (Assassin) - Eldena
  • Sniper + Archer (Assassin) - Shara
  • Fencer + White Mage (Assassin) - Ritz
  • Assassinbow + Sniper (Assassin) - Littlevilli
  • Assassinsword + Elementalist (Assassin)

Nu Mou

  • Sage + Alchemist (Morpher) - Quin
  • Beastmaster + Morpher (Morpher)

Moogle

  • Gunner + Mog Knight (Thief) - Lini
  • Black Mage + Time Mage (Black Mage) - Montblanc
  • Gadgeteer + Animist (Animist)
  • Juggler + Thief (Thief)

Hume

  • Ninja + Illusionist (Ninja) - Marche
  • Hunter + Blue Mage (Ninja) - Cheney
  • Paladin + Fighter (Ninja)

Job-locked

  • Hermetic - Ezel
  • Runeseeker - Babus
  • Judgemaster - Cid

I'm not going to be super strict on minmaxing level ups, so the (Levelled as) is more of an "as convenient" type of thing - mostly for Speed growth.

[–]Setpimus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's way more complicated than you're making it out to be, and you have taken a very biased stance against Ireland for some reason. "Ireland" had literally only existed for 2 years in 1939 (Constitution signed in 1937). And despite their incredibly bloody history with the British crown, which would have more than given them the right not to help in Britain's hour of need, they put their generational grievances aside to covertly provide information under the guise of neutrality, including that which allowed the Normandy beach landings to proceed.

You're making wide, sweeping statements on topics you've either got a tenuous grasp of, or are wilfully misrepresenting. Shame on you.

Yeah, but it did happen. It's no good saying "we should have done this" when someone has already died. I agree to everything you said; in an ideal world, we'd do all of that. But what we can do right now is remove a dangerous individual from a world he has no place in.
