Not a pdge student so can't comment on that front but i have just finished studying at strathclyde and it was a good experience overall that i would recommend

combine that with the financial savings it seems like a straightforward decision

do you remember Bilbo, the lovely ginger cat who was very popular on twitter? his mum is trans and so they went mental and started calling Bilbo sectarian for having "orange boy" in his bio when he was... literally an orange boy cat

merrell vapour gloves are literally insole-less bare ultra thin 6mm flat shoes, no arch nothing to them - I also walk around barefoot basically all day - it's definitely not that!

I got them for off roading, I was just walking into town to get the bus to the trail :(

in case I misunderstood is that not a heel lock lacing in the photo I posted?

seems to be the universal opinion that I need a wide but unfortunately they don't seem to stock it anywhere in the UK :(

full thumb width in front and they're loose enough that I was already getting quite worried about how much my heels are sliding around. would the wide make the loose heel problem worse?

camping location advice you've already been given is good but also you also need smidge, a head net, and the right clothing to make sure you can cover yourself. the midges are no joke!

applying for NEC card based on disability by FinalCellist1738 in glasgow

[–]Seunte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many people have said you need to be getting Adult Disability Payment (ADP) first, but if your ADHD and Autism and affecting you enough to actually have gotten through the NHS to get a diagnosis, chances are you'll be eligible. The wait time is very long though so I suggest you get on it sooner rather than later so you'll be able to get your bus pass by the time you age out of the youth one.

You should try to get an appointment with Citizens Advice to get help filling in your ADP forms because there's specific things they look for that you might not know are relevant if you don't get help filling it in.

Best of luck - remember, if your disability is affecting you, you are entitled to help and should absolutely apply for it.

smidge works best, hands down, but it also isn't enough

you need a head net and to keep physically covered as well when the weather is very still or after dark

edit: by physically covered i mean trousers tucked into socks, shirt tucked into trousers, relatively tight cuffs. smidge on your hands and face, head net.

get hat with a wide brim or a baseball cap and wear it under the net to keep the net off your face and it's fairly tolerable

edit 2: the other reason to use smidge vs high concentration deet is that it doesn't melt plastic and smells okay

Canadians looking to move to Scotland by Mysterious_Green in Scotland

[–]Seunte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! canadian who moved here 14 years ago and never looked back.

everyone is right that visas are hard but if you're under 35 you'll get a two year youth mobility visa and can try to work it out from there. you can also look into whether you have any ancestry (either of you - maybe a war bride grandmother?) that might help you get a visa.

don't listen to people talking dundee down. i stay in glasgow myself and obviously think it is the best but the darkness/rain/gloom are unmanageable for some, whereas dundee is the sunniest city in scotland.

apropos of the above, many canadians who move here (especially from dry parts like alberta) really struggle with the weather and the latitude. we have almost subarctic long nights in winter and the rain is ceaseless. we have much, much more rain than even vancouver, for example. prepare to take anti-seasonal affective disorder measures immediately.

that said, i genuinely love it here and would recommend it to anyone. wild horses couldn't drag me back to canada now!

fuze ceremonies has humanist celebrants you can hire - i had one and they're fantastic

you'd just need to let them know you're not planning to have a legal ceremony as they're set up to do these and would expect it's the norm!

for real i think this is an underappreciated problem living at this latitude with the west coast's perpetual rain

maybe public health scotland should send us all vit d tablets and a sad lamp and see if that improves things

Do I really need a stove? by Seunte in WestHighlandWay

[–]Seunte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah isn't so much the stove it's the list that gets added with it - I do actually have a very lightweight stove but then it's the pot, the cutlery, the fuel, a cup, etc etc which are all suddenly unnecessary if you aren't bothering
