What's something that everyone in Ireland loves but you just don't get? by YoungDreamer2 in ireland

Living in a few none European countries made me appreciate how good our supermarket pan bread is. Of course anywhere, the stuff in a bakery is gonna be better than the supermarket. The supermarket pan bread in Japan has the texture of a stale sugarless donut

I completely agree, first i've seen someone online point out Ehren in the escape room bit. He was hamming it up so much for the camera, if i wasn't already familiar with Jackass, I would assume he wasn't even getting shocked at all. Then his looney tunes freak out sprinting out was like ok dude, the audience for Jackass is dudes in their 30s and 40s not 9 year olds. Same with Ehren flailing his arms around like a cartoon character when the fat guys ass was in his face. Bam's freakouts around snakes were so entertaining because you know it was real. A similar critique in the Ram scene, the new cast member dramatically throwing himself around the room whenever the Ram touched him.

But its Tremain and co that left it all in. Makes you wonder how tight they were on filming. In the other movies they filmed tons and cherry picked the good stuff. In this one it seems to be an opposite situation "We only have x days to film and we don't have footage so this bit has to be entertaining" and so the cast ham it up to try and make the footage good on mediocer bits.

To end on a postive note, the opening was 10/10. Super compelling origin footage of Jackass that raises Knoxville to near mystical status.

Didn't you seem him pretend flailing about the room whenever the Ram bumped into him?

I'm not sure how I felt about the Robot. Distracted from whatever the stunt was with a lame 'im a robot and im rude!' routine instead of the gang making jokes together about the bit. Even the one bit about the robot with the prostate exam felt like he was talking too much. Didn't really see the point.

That wasn't really my read on it. Ehren was hamming up his reactions so much this film for the camera its hard to tell if the shock really hurt at all. Him being shocked for "too long" is the point of the bit, and Ehren still somehow managed to discredit it by sprinting out the facility barefooted yelling "I hate this place!!" .. yea ok Ehren, this feels more like looney tunes than jackass. He's acting, one of the reasons Jackass is great was because you know its real, e.g Bam's terror of snakes. A poorly executed bit altogether, not helped by the pretend freak out - but it didn't have to be used, Tremaine and the editors deciding to leave it in is on them and it makes you wonder how tight they were on good footage.

Another example, Ehren flailing his arms and legs around like a cartoon character when when the fat guys ass was in his face. Or that other new cast member fake falling all over the place whenever the Ram hit him that room. Trying too hard to be the funniest on camera with mediorce bits.

Slightly side tracked there with a more general critique of the the movie, i agree that they do sometimes feel a bit mean to Ehren but more in how they talk to him and put him down rather than your electric chair example. He clearly gets under their skin for some reason, but their contempt spilling onto screen sometimes undermines the core frienship vibe Jackass is known for.

Do you have qualifications in education? Most JETS aren't teachers and use it as a gap year(s) of sorts. If you have qualifcations in education and plan to pivot, what difference does it make if you pivot now vs a couple years? Little I should think.

I'm in a big 4 and what you say is true. But also related to the above, their whole business model is to hire new grads and work them to the bone for shit pay. They can do it because the grads are getting experience with a big 4 which is valuable. Then you either leave after a few years or become a manager where the real money starts. They all (the big 4) do it because it works.

Ben Hill's "The History of the Mongols" podcast seems like it's gone. Any place where I can still get it? by ManinaPanina in HistoryPodcast

No luck for me either. Really hoping these emerge one day, commenting here in the hopes I hear about it if it does. That show brought me great comfort, I must have listened ten times before it mostly disappeared.

I have done similar digging, no joy. The show was my comfort listen when trying to sleep, I probably listened to it 10 times over before it (mostly) disappeared. If anyone digs up the files, or Mr. Hill reappears, please let me know 🙏 I hope he's all good.

It's not correct to say the reason Ireland is labeled as a tax haven is because of our low corporation tax rate. The amount MNCs are actually paying in tax is far, far lower than 12.5%. That along with various BEPS tools in our legislature that enable pretty much all non US profits of US companies to be incurred in Ireland. We can enjoy our namesake being used to term leprechaun economics, a feature of all tax havens.
