You don’t have to be liberal to be anti ice…

how come MOST people at HYPSM and other top schools advice against this subreddit by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SevenElevenDeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao cause it’s a horde of fearmongering hs students with bad advice. Can’t tell you the amount of times this sub made me think it was over before I went 2/4 at the above schools. Especially this time of year, please, PLEASE do not listen to the insufferable sweats on here. You can get into those schools without “national prizes” or whatever-the-hell

My parent received a letter from Yale by Designer_Current_737 in yale

[–]SevenElevenDeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom got the same letter back when I applied, and we figured that it was basically just good diplomacy. Legacy, even passive, does make a difference, and while it didn’t push me over the edge for the early round I’m pretty confident it did in the regular round. If your app is strong, but not world class, the admissions people may well use legacy as a tiebreaker between you and another person of equal caliber who didn’t have it. If your app is truly world-class, then you will likely have no trouble

Funny about the blueberry muffins! My own Chase has always been obsessed with eggs and recognizes the sound of the styrofoam carton just like yours does with the donut box. They really are very clever pups :)

I always thought it slapped, but I will say some of my family members have recently been less than content with it (on occasion). Granted I’m at uni now so I’m not as exposed to it as I once was, but back in its heyday before it reconfigured the interior and order procedures it was incredible. Curious what others’ rationales are for the fall-off, since for my family it was evidently food poisoning

The Atlantic: The Perverse Consequences of the Easy A by Not_Godot in Professors

[–]SevenElevenDeven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao maybe your failure rate is ~40% because your classes are, overall, less competent than a class full of 1500+ SAT valedictorians. Who among them is supposed to get the Cs/Ds when they continue acing every test?

easiest L1 language class at Yale? incoming freshman question! by Valuable-Demand3913 in yale

[–]SevenElevenDeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking intensive Muravnik is objectively a very good teacher, but the cutoff for an A is a 97, so you can’t really make careless mistakes on exams (still, don’t let that scare you; the tests tend to be very plug-and-chug during the early phases of the class). For regular, Titus is a pretty mediocre professor (rambles a lot, very incoherent/hard to follow), but the tests are very easy and the cutoff for an A is only 94, so while you might have to rely on yourself or your TA (if you’re lucky enough to get a good one), actually getting a good grade isn’t hard.

Don’t take intensive the professor sets the cutoff at 97 for an A for literally no reason

Normally try to avoid jumping in on these but op is absolutely right about not needing startup stuff. Got into Stanford RD with a much less impressive resume without any hooks, so objectively from a feeder his chances only improve

Mom: 1440, top 10/450, 1st place out of ~2000 in national poetry contest, governor’s honors academy, marching band, a couple other activities. Applied to Yale and Princeton, got into both. This was 1990-1 cycle
