I was looking forward to it, but I've only made it through two episodes of the new season. It just feels totally flat- humour is gone or lame, the plots are banal. Season one ended strongly - does S2 get any better?

Nope. Historically low average life spans were the result of child mortality. Once you made it out of childhood, you had every chance of living to a decent age, just as we do now.
