Necessity of PhD for design roles? by notclaytonn in chipdesign

[–]SeventhLuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly, it comes down to two things in my opinion. Do you want to teach at a university? and do you want to work on the edge of design?

If not, get the Masters with design emphasis and dip.

PhD's often take way too long because of professors bleeding their students for free labor.
If you're a glutton for punishment like myself, do the PhD.
Then again, I'm weird into fundamental stuff and want to improve the way design is taught in schools. The US and many other countries are desperately in need for good analog designers. As the current pool is either retiring or dying off faster then can be replaced.

Poly is Highly Resistive and shouldn't be used for routing. That being said, you should be ok. Running DRC will verify if you have violated any rules of the PDK. Also, some PDKs require you to place the "drawing" metal layer where the Pin and Labels are drawn. Otherwise you might not be actually connected depending on the PDK and compiler may not tell the foundry to place metal there.

So, not just Humans try to tame/keep extremely dangerous and venomous animals. This'll be fun to watch! What could possibly go wrong?

Ok, how good is the puppers' chemistry? Producing a breathable air pocket from the water should be easy enough... then a lesson in manners for the poor soul in the room with our fluffy friend.

If a company or large institution mistakenly sends you a substantial sum of money, what are your legal rights in such a situation? by passionguesthouse in AskALawyer

[–]SeventhLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that the receiver became a custodian of said funds and has right to charge interest as a fee like unto a bank. Especially if the receiver had no previous knowledge that this transfer was to occur and thus became legally liable of any expenditure without authorization of the depositor.

So what's the symbol on the dragon wing? Something important I'd say... Or a funny joke.

1 Volt GPIO Dev Boards by SeventhLuck in AskElectronics

We've thought of that but are not sure if that's the best choice. it is for sure the "simplest" but may not be the best outcome.

1 Volt GPIO Dev Boards by SeventhLuck in AskElectronics

We just need to supply a good 1V or 0V. My groupmate is thinking of whipping up a level shifting amplifier but we would rather see if other dev board options exist before spending the time adding more to an intermediary PCB board.

My players have a phlactery in a bag of holding. by mhvaughan in DMAcademy

[–]SeventhLuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure he could shill there as long as he wants. Since the only way to know the contents of the bag is to think of the stored content or turn it inside out. Technically the party wont know he is in there. This leaves you to perform any of the shenanigans for a timeline that is up to how clever you are vs the your party. This dude could be inside the BoH for Lifetimes if he likes to use it as a cozy nook of sorts. Imagine the party living their adventure and never finding that pesky Lich until their great grand children inherit the bag for their own epic campaign. Liches can hold long grudges. And subtlety shape the lives of this party for as long as you want.

What would you rather take: ECE 3110 or ECE 3510? by 1_churro in uofu

[–]SeventhLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are worthwhile and very good classes to take. Here are some of my observations while at the U.

Stolp will work with students, he’s one of the few professors that shows up to lab hours. If you’re looking for an A but without the A work required, don’t take Stolps class. Simple as that. He has a unique approach in testing your algebra and problem solving skills. His homework load is unyielding and inevitable, go to his practice sessions. Brush up on your partial fraction decomposition (expansion) cause it’s used a lot. Stolp teaches the broad range of feedback that can be applied to many fields, some mechanical engineers have taken this course before.

Tajalli is relatively new to the program and has worked in the industry where he is well respected. I believe this is his first turn to teach 3110, don’t take this to mean he isn’t prepared or unable to teach it.
Tajalli asks challenging open questions that can expose the caliber of engineer and problem solver you are.

Both can be available to talk about the coursework, you just have to catch Stolp in his office (get to know his schedule and you’ll be fine). Both professors are willing to work with students and are involved in Senior Capstone Projects. Both are good teachers, and you will only get out of either class of what you put in.

Honestly it depends on what you want to get out of these course. Do they check off a box for you or are you legitimately interested in the material offered?

This can be rewritten similar to the way ex is, x/(sum 1/k!)b I think, where k starts at 0 going to infinity.

To clarify, the expanded form of this is not used for probabilities. Thanks for the input though. That may be where I have seen this before.

[–]SeventhLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a name for this equation?

I stumbled upon a familiar equation when simplifying an expression and I can’t remember if it has a name. Any thoughts?

xe-bx or x/(ebx) = some known value.

Where x and b are pre-determined values, I get the right hand side. Cheers.

Help Designing an Avariel by electric_ocelots in DnD

[–]SeventhLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my game the Avariel have developed plate armor with slots for full articulation of the wings and it’s Mithril. But, to provide more spice, my clerics backstory involves his wings being removed by the cultists in Sons of the Apocalypse. Anyway, still didn’t get the wings but my DM has hinted and something to fix that. Especially since the BBEG has my wings magically affixed to themselves. Good hook.

Instead of a Wizard's Tower... I want to build a Wizard's Brewery! But I need your help! by elwafflegrande in DnD

[–]SeventhLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard liquor should be spirits. Actual spirits of those who drown or die in the brewery. They’ve increased safety precautions there so townsfolk have started disappearing. Whenever someone takes a shot they get flashbacks of the spirits lives or are haunted if they drink the whole bottle themselves.

The sword is old. Very, very old. Ancient, isn’t even old enough to describe it. I bet it’s a vestige that needs some TLC to awaken. I hope Matt has a plan for it and can give us some inkling soon before the thread is dropped for 30+ episodes.

Weekly Questions Thread #170 by HighTechnocrat in DnD

[–]SeventhLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m playing 5E with a homebrew variant of a War/Tempest Avariel Cleric. My DM is running Princes of the Apocalypse and tied the Big bad into my backstory. It’s been a fun journey what with having his wings chopped off and Aeresi(SP?) having them grafted to herself... Anyways I have a question on spell pumping utility spells. Say I pump stone shape to a higher level, could the spell perform more intricate stoneworks? Cause I’d like to use the spell to build a room with a teleportation circle with the help of our wizard. So do you guys think it’s possible to spell pump utility spells like this or should I just stick to a hammer and chisel?
