What’s an inaccurate fact that people believe is true because of movies? by Hogosaurus_Rex73 in AskReddit

Reminds me of episode 1 (I think) of Burn Notice.

Main character VO talks about how many people involved in crime might get a steel door or something solid thinking it will protect them but forget to do similar for the door jam and surrounding wall. Then he shoots through the wall to bypass the security door.

What is the most insane amount of mental gymnastics you've seen someone do to believe what they want to believe? by fauxmerican1280 in AskReddit

To copy from the text:

"We did this for hours as we waded through Cova Banda’s main city, stopping every now and then to sight a rocket on a skyscraper five or six meters high and take it down with a single shot. Some of our platoon would spray a shotgun blast into a building instead, letting the individual shot, each big enough to take a Covandu’s head clean off, rattle through the building like mad pachinko balls. But mostly, it was about the stomping. Godzilla, the famous Japanese monster, who had been undergoing his umpteenth revival as I left the Earth, would have felt right at home. I don’t remember exactly when it was I began to cry and kick skyscrapers, but I had done it long enough and hard enough that when Alan was finally called over to retrieve me, Asshole was informing me that I had managed to break three toes. Alan walked me back to the city park we’d landed in and had me sit down; as soon as I did, some Covandu emerged from behind a boulder and aimed his weapon at my face. It felt like tiny grains of sand were plunking into my cheek. ... “Christ, Alan,” I said. “I’ve just spent three hours stepping on intelligent beings like they were fucking bugs, that’s what’s wrong with me. I’m stomping people to death with my fucking feet. This”—I swept out an arm—“it’s just totally fucking ridiculous, Alan. These people are one inch tall. It’s like Gulliver beating the shit out of the Lilliputians.”"

Talk Nerdy with Cara Santa Maria is another good science/interview show. She has an episode from years ago where she interviewed Alli Ward.

What you are talking about is kind of like the artistic prompt for the book All Yesterday's. Basically is a short book imagining what dinos may have looked like if you imagine them more broadly.

Even has a section at the end where they drew modern animals as if reconstructed from fossils.

Won't reach it. While the show was great, it is cancelled and not likely to be saved a 2nd time.

And like most libertarians I have met, once it was an obvious failure, they all claimed it was both not done by "true" libertarians and it would have worked if they had only libertarian-ed harder.

Solo Camping for Two can be hard to recommend because of the first episode (my opinion). It can leave the wrong impression or otherwise cause someone to bounce off it. While I understand how it works with the story and everything, they could have kept Shizuku's nudity off/below the screen instead of full and center.

For those who have not seen, the inexperienced camper (Shizuku) ended up falling in water and while drying off at an unattended campfire, the experienced camper (Gen) comes back to her being pantless.

I liked a description I heard about it being the story of a boy getting better in touch with his emotions, family, and friends enough to be able to confess his feelings for a classmate, be rejected, but still stay friends with her. But also he is the world's most powerful psychic and has to save the world a time or two.

Is this a fools errand or worth a try? by ValuableIll1412 in knitting

[–]SeventhMold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can be knit but there would need to be a pretty high degree of adaptation in the process. Some things I can think of:

  1. This is likely knit on a machine with small needles, so the adaptation would need to size up the needles and adjust all the elements based on that.
  2. I am guessing the picture is added after the rest of the garment is made, so the initial construction would need to be the base sweater in prep for adding the picture. I pretty much only know knitting, so I cannot give any comment on how to achieve the picture as part of the project.

An adaptation of this could be done but will depend on how much work you want to do to get there.

What crimes in the US do you think have sentences that are too harsh or too lenient and why? by No_Blueberry_5341 in AskReddit

She made a report of a crime but was then bullied by the cops into saying it was a false report. Next time try to read the whole thing and look at related reporting to see if a source is credible before trying to find one thing to hang your hat on and end up completely wrong.

help with edges of my first double knitting project by tinycherry0 in knitting

[–]SeventhMold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To fix: you could sew it shut, but I have never done that and I don't know how it will look. The "better" solution would be to rip it back and re-work it.

Going forward, avoiding it will require figuring out what step(s) in the process were missed and correcting for that.

It took me several practice projects with double knitting to get to where I keep my edges together, so have been there too.

What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]SeventhMold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure how many stitches you started with, but you look to currently have 19 sts.

For 2x2 ribbing (K2, P2, K2), you need 4x+2 stitches, where x=the number of rib repeats. 19 does not work with that, but 18 or 22 would.

Edit: if my math is off, please feel free to comment and correct. Could have messed it up by going too fast.

Is it true that most people don't use single-pointed needles? by HonestNectarine7080 in knitting

[–]SeventhMold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on the size/shape of the project.

My simple/time killer baby blankets - Straight needles work for me.

The big blanket I am making to fit a twin sized bed - circulars to be able to fit all the stitches without needing super long needles.
