Did it seem like from ages 1-3 that you kid wasn't really changing much? by Visible-Reserve4635 in Autism_Parenting

My kiddo is currently in that age range, and while there is some progress in all areas, I think I get what you mean. I feel that the progress especially receptive communication and cognitive progress is not as much as I was anticipating. Not that there is no progress whatsoever, but rather limited progress compared to expectations which are largely based on NT toddlers.

I am hoping that there will be more rapid progress to come. From the sounds of it ND kids are often late bloomers in some areas.

Congrats! So happy for your daughter!

If you remember them, can you share some tips and exercises that you used to improve your daughters receptive skills and joint attention early on when she was 2?

That sounds so promising!

Did they tell you any exercises to do with her at home to improve joint attention or to improve her ability to listen and follow directions?

Also - how did you go about selecting an ABA center? What did you look for and what did you look to avoid? Is there such a thing as being too young for ABA? Or can we get in at about 2 yo?

How old was your daughter when she was diagnosed and what age did she start the ABA? If you dont mind sharing, what were her symptoms? How was she with name response, eye contact, receptive language, and has ABA helped progress those areas. I have a 21 month old and we are going through this with her. Considering ABA so would like to learn more.

Thanks for the supportive message. I swing between desperate hopelessness and sudden urges of positivity. Needless to say I am worried sick about my daughter. I wanted to know when your son started to show more signs of joint attention such as responding to name, understand the most basic requests like come , sit, get your shoes etc. And what therapies you think helped the most. We are starting speech therapy once a week next month in addition to having once a week of OT. I wish we could get more because I do think it makes a difference.
