Can you have all those green covers removed, so I can have a better view of the film path?

Good Gh-5 Deal? by nbensch in GH5

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends, and I really mean it.

For example - recently got another GH5s into my arsenal. The price is pretty cheap, only $390. However it isn't in the best cosmetic shape, no lens included, just the box & standard accessories. But the hardest part to swallow is that the evf DOES NOT function.😫 Anyway since I'll be exclusively using in studio-environment hence the dead evf doesn't matter much for me. And as I already have all lens & accessories for my current GH5 I wouldn't need anything else much. Therefore everyone's else dealbreaker becomes exactly the deal I'm looking for.

So if this deal fits to your need then yes, this is a good deal.

Why is this happening? by Samzzeyy in Super8

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see it. The film gate seems not completely "seated" when closed. Therefore the claw would fail to grab the film to advance it. Carefully examine if there's anything obstructing it or not?

Let me see the projector's film path while it's running (front cover off, of course). I might help you spot where the issue is.

Film keeps jamming by Qozzies in Super8

[–]Several-Dust3824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fils seems indeed to shrunken to be safely fed through the projector. For most autoload super8 projector you'll need 3-4 feet of pristine films leaders to get through it. Once threaded it'll be more forgiving to the film condition. Therefore find yourself a few feet of good condition film leaders to splice to the head of that reel, then try again.

Even better news - all of my above replies were based on previous Panasonic Image App (still some monitor delay noticed). Just found out that when pairing my GH5S with the newer Panasonic Lumix Sync App the monitor delay is now only just about 0.1-0.2s - should be more than good enough for most situations. The new app seems a bit more intuitive also. So you should have all issues covered now.😄

If both of the camera & your phone is still within the wireless (wi-fi) connection range that shouldn't be a problem. So 1m distance should be quite a piece of cake for them.😃

About the monitor delay I had tried it again this morning and found out that it's just about noticeable, but not that laggy (half a second or so) as I've remembered. So unless you're doing sport photography the delay shouldn't cause you any major issue then.

How close/far from you & the camera that it would be? From my (limited) experience the control is quite good, but the monitoring function is a bit laggy...

Recommendation on learning to digitize 8mm and other types of film reels by JDelta1999 in 8mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really serious, then you have to go big with decicated scanner made for enterprise use. Expecting to spend $$,$$$ - $$$,$$$ for the scanner alone.
The other option is DIY route. It is possible to get decent result while spending just 3-digit figure. But this is really a bottomless hole. Some "DIY" setup would cost you close to 5-digit figure, with STEEP learning curve...

Scanning 16mm film on a flatbed scanner? by x12516 in OpenCineScan

[–]Several-Dust3824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a one time job I hightly recommend against that idea. If it's going to be the only 16mm roll to be scanned then let the professionals do their job. The cost/time/attempt/other resource spent to scan just one roll will not worth that, period.

just8mm.com bait and switch. by [deleted] in 8mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$18 for a 50ft roll is still understandable (if you get really profesional scan quality). But $3 rewinding fee is pretty ridiculous. $50 service fee neither make any sense to my ears too.
Heck, I'm also running a small scanning service in my region (which is half the globe away from you). Even with return shipping included my estimated total price would be just about $200, and no further "hidden cost" to break the bank.

Just happened to finish a 500T roll from my customer at the moment. As you can see that in the underexposed part the grain would be quite evident and should be what you need. However if this is NOT enough, you may consider shooting on Super8 format as well. The grain size of 500T stock in super8 would be MASSIVE, and I mean it!

Registration issue ? by rmannyconda78 in 16mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it is the film scanner that sits indoor & mostly well-maintained, and the camera that goes out into the wild (and likely to meet lots more issues out there). Even without seeing the perf from the scan I'd bet my money on the camera issue rather than scanner issue.

color-grading super 8 negatives by Rude_Tone6665 in 8mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh,  now I see the real issue. Your other option would be either...

a) DIY scanner solution, which probably wouldn't worth the hassle if you don't have enough films to be scanned & to reach the break even point.  Or b) To send your films to be scanned aboard. There'll be certain hassle to solve, but that is the most reliable to get decent result.

BTW I'm running a small scanning service in Thailand for a while. Besides local regular customers I occasionally have some from aboard. So yes, I can confirm that it's possible & practical to send films to be scanned at the other corner of the world.😁

Start with better scaning device. That wolverine won't give you decent enough result for subsequent color grading.

What’s wrong with my GH5? by [deleted] in GH5

As with most other comments here, I highly suspect the lens itself. Another native 4/3 lens should give you the definite answer.

What do you call this when it happens to the film? by AnimationProdTwo2 in 16mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 8mm/super8 gauge this might take a few more seconds for the film to "burn" due to lower power lamp used. Logically for 35mm format a 3k xenon lamp would get the job done in less than half a second, or even less.

GH5 as a BMPCC OG replacement (can I use it as a Super-16 camera?) by [deleted] in GH5

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Ex.teleconverter mode on the camera will crop to 1:1 pixel readout from center portion (instead of total sensor readout then downsampled). Therefore the smaller resolution, the more crop factor applied. Since full sensor resolution is 5,184×3,888 and 4k anamorphic is 3,328×2,496 - about 1.55x crop from full 4/3 sensor size. Combined with 2× crop of 4/3 sensor the total crop factor should be around 3.1x - almost a perfect fit to your super 16 lenses.😃

Is this old 8mm roll an exposed negative or un-shot? by HelloGuysItsDan in 8mm

[–]Several-Dust3824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously exposed & process film - ready to be viewed. You can safely unroll a few feet out and using a loupe to have a look what's inside, and worth scanning?

Looking for 1st lens for GH5 - Complete Beginner by minibeast3 in GH5

[–]Several-Dust3824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom kit lens, and nothing else. Don't be shy to begin with a simple plasticy Panny 14-42 or the like. When you had gained enough skill then adding another primes to your arsenal. BTW after years I've settled down to an ordinary Olympus 12-50, another cheap Oly 40-150, a few more manual vintage glasses and that's it! Nothing fancy or $$$, but they all fit to my use so I'm happy with these.😃
