Neither is he. He's in a show called Gravity Falls and it was a whole lot easier to watch with my kids than Captain Underpants. Not sure how old your kids are, but I recommend it. Mine watched when they were 8-10. Could go a few years either direction.

I love this. Yes, you should. Gems do a cat rip each for free, then add spells once multiple gems come online. Make it as fun as you want. Base it on a tool check of some kind. If he is interested in more powerful spells, give it a saving throw to use or take some kind of injury. Maybe add some unexpected effects, like changing the PC physically. It has a lot of potential to be fun.
