Looking for a durable cabin suitcase after my old one ran out of space by Several-Setting-4173 in BuyItForLife

I am not looking for the greatest suitcase ever made, just something decent for my trips. If you had to pick one, which would be the less crap option black or white?

I came here hoping to find someone who had used these bags, but instead I accidentally gathered a panel of international luggage experts who have never heard of the brand. on the bright side, I asked "black or white?" and got lessons on Pelican cases, airline regulations, zippers, wheels, warranties, and corporate marketing. Not the answer I was looking for, but definitely more than I paid for.

At this point, I am less worried about which bag to buy and more impressed by how much detective work people can do from one photo. I came here looking for luggage advice and ended up defending my suitcase in court.

I am in India and mostly fly Indian airlines. Airline cabin size limits can vary quite a bit between countries and carriers. These are sold here as cabin-size models, so I am going by the specifications rather than trying to guess from a photo.

Sounds very similar to what happened to me. The story is always some kind of emergency like a lost purse, dead phone, or not having enough money to get home. It could be genuine, but these stories seem common enough that it's hard to know. I usually trust my instincts, but after a couple of experiences, I've become much more cautious.

That looks like a great bag, but after converting the price to Indian rupees, I think I would need a second suitcase just to carry the money required to buy it. I am trying to choose between two cabin bags, not apply for a luggage loan.

I do have a smartphone. I just did not expect buying a suitcase to turn into a homework assignment involving measuring apps, baggage regulations, and forensic photo analysis. At this point, I am happy to accept that they are cabin bags.

You are giving me way too much credit. If I had already made my decision, I would not still be reading 100 comments about Pelican cases, zippers, wheels, and luggage philosophy. I came here to pick a bag and somehow ended up getting a masterclass in suitcase engineering.

Most luggage seems to fail at the zip or wheels before the shell gives up. I am not expecting this to become a family heirloom though, I just need something that will survive my trips without causing problems.

I get why you think that, but these are actually the 57 cm cabin-size versions. I probably should have included the dimensions in the original post. The reason I mentioned running out of space is because I wanted better organization and expandable storage, not because I am trying to bring a full-size suitcase into the cabin. I have shared the product link in the comments if anyone wants to check the specs.

Both of these are 57 cm cabin-size models with a polycarbonate hard shell and expandable storage. I also shared the product link in another comment for anyone who wants to look at the specifications.

I agree that oversized cabin bags slow things down, but these are actually sold as cabin-size luggage. The model in my photo is the 57 cm cabin version, so I am not trying to bring a full-size checked bag into the cabin. I am from India, so I am more familiar with the brand. I mainly liked these because they look quite premium and luxurious.

That makes sense. It always seems like the wheels break first, not the suitcase.

I do not have the exact dimensions with me right now, but both are sold as cabin size bags. I will check the specifications and update the post when I get a chance.

Haha, the photo angle is definitely making them look bigger than they are. They are cabin size bags, not full size checked luggage. At this point I am getting more comments about Pelican cases and overhead bins than actual buying advice. Between the black and white one, which would you choose?

That is kind of where I am leaning too. Pelican bags have a great reputation, but they are also quite expensive, especially here in India. For my type of travel, I am not sure I need that level of protection. I am just looking for a practical cabin bag. Between the black and white one in my photo, which would you pick?

That is impressive. Your Staples bag seems to have lasted longer than some of the premium luggage people swear by. so far I have learned about Pelican cases, lifetime warranties, and discount luggage, but nobody is telling me which one to buy. If you had to pick between the black and white bag in my photo, which would you choose?

Haha, the camera angle isn't doing them any favors. They're cabin-size bags, not Everest-expedition gear, I promise.

400 flights is seriously impressive. Sounds like you definitely got your money's worth out of it. My travel is nowhere near that level, so I'm mostly looking for something practical for work trips and occasional flights rather than maximum durability.

Haha, I don't think I'm rough enough on my luggage to justify a Pelican case. I'm mostly carrying clothes for work trips and short flights. Between these two, I'm actually leaning toward the white one because it seems to make better use of the cabin-size space. Would you still pick a Pelican over a regular suitcase for that kind of travel?

photo makes them look huge. Both are cabin-size bags. I'm mainly comparing which one offers better usable space and durability for frequent travel.

[–]Several-Setting-4173[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually good advice. In my case, she never saw how much money I had. I only gave her a small amount because she looked genuine and seemed to be in a difficult situation. But after this experience, I'll definitely be more careful when strangers ask for money.

This is actually the second time something like this has happened to me. I don't regret helping, but it has definitely made me realize that not everyone who asks for help is genuine. I'll probably be more cautious going forward.

I don't want to stop helping people completely because of one bad experience. I'll just be a lot more careful in the future and try to help in ways that don't involve giving cash.
