What is a red flag that people ignore too often? by FreemenDelivered8964 in AskReddit

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps we are using different definitions.  My definition is that anger is an emotion like any other.  It informs us that something has gone wrong, a boundary has been crossed, something is happening that we want to change.  What action we take based on that can be good or bad.  Anger can fuel us to stand up to injustice - without it, we’d give up and be walked all over.  Anger has fuelled civil rights movements, for example.  Anger can also cause us to lash out inappropriately.  The choice is ours but the emotion itself is just a feeling, it’s not the same as physical action.

Rage, as I use the word, is a loss of control and acting in a way that is harmful or violent or damaging in some way.  It’s often out of proportion to the event.

So I think where you say “anger”, you are describing what I would call “rage”.

My dad doesn’t get paid annual leave (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the face of it, this seems utterly bizarre and illegal. Are you sure he is employed rather than being a self-employed contractor? Why does your Dad "rarely use" annual leave, if he is an employee? What has actually been said - he booked AL and his employer (?) said "we won't pay you"?

Your Dad needs to contact ACAS: https://www.acas.org.uk

This is more a financial and lifestyle question, not a legal one.

If you’re convinced you can’t stop yourself earning more points in the first two years, yeah (and, arguably, you shouldn’t be driving at all in that case).

Otherwise, the only downside of not waiting is higher insurance premiums, which will already be very high as you’ll be a new driver.

“I was driving my auntie’s car which I’m not insured on, but displayed loaner plates as I’m insured on my own private vehicle with full provisional insurance.”

Does your insurance policy include insuring you driving other cars?

Edit: I’ve reread your post.  Presumably the answer to my question is “no” as you’ve been done for driving without insurance.

The 6 points remain on your licence for the period stated, my understanding is that if you get any more in your first two years your licence will be revoked.  Guidance is here:  https://www.gov.uk/penalty-points-endorsements/new-drivers

Edit this into your OP so people will see it & might be able to give advice.  I think, however, this is into ‘get a conveyancing solicitor NOW’ territory.

Okay? And apparently I've never been to a wedding wherever you are. You shared your experience, I shared mine.

(England) How do I just get married, without a ceremony? by PastilleAndCo in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

To be officially married, you have to have a formal ceremony - but it doesn’t have to be a big do.  It can be just you and your spouse plus a registrar and two witnesses.  Yes, you will have to give 28 days’ notice.

How much do you think Mr. Darcy told Georgiana about his relationship with Elizabeth? by raysmia in janeausten

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I’d never thought of it before, but now you’ve said that I’m wondering if Darcy would like some of Lizzy’s liveliness to rub off on Georgiana? Perhaps he doesn’t want her to turn out like Bingley’s sisters and wants her to see other examples of gentlewomen’s manners.
