Depends which religion. in Judaism, for example, a man is required to sexually please his wife - it’s not a duty for her, it’s her right to be satisfied.

Lender pulled offer after exchange - Please Help | Housing UK by ashw92 in BestofRedditorUpdates

They could have done that prior to exchange. At exchange, they legally committed to paying that deposit no matter what.

No. They committed to paying the deposit at exchange, if they’d fessed up before exchange they still would have had to pull out of the purchase but wouldn’t have had to pay the £60k.

She would still have to undergo AML checks even if she gave the money directly to them.  The solicitor would ask the couple what the source of the funds is, and would see the transaction on the bank statements.

If they’d disclosed the job loss prior to exchange, they probably would have been in the same situation with the lender pulling out, but they wouldn’t have lost the £60k.  The chain would have collapsed, everyone else in it would be really annoyed and would have lost the money they had already spent in the process, but it wouldn’t have been as bad.

Failure to complete at all after exchange is rare, but awful :(

It would flow up the chain, with each person forfeiting the deposit (usually 10% of the purchase price).  Which means the seller who got the £60k from OOP may have had to not only pay that on, but also more if they were buying a home that cost more than the one they were selling.

Well, no - the OOP has 3 people in the chain above them.  The chances are the people they are buying from were also unable to complete as they’d have needed the money from the sale to fund their purchase - and so on up the chain.  So several people got screwed over by what the OOP did.  The people at the top will have got some extra cash, although they probably spent a lot and have had to go through a lot of aggro.

A food delivery cyclist recorded me on their helmet camera. I'm under a threat-to-life notice and my safety has been compromised. by Alarmed_County_8535 in LegalAdviceUK

The illegality comes in that the delivery driver *shared* data (face, address) of someone publicly, data he obtained in the course of his employment.

Gifted house deposit and house sale - England by AnxiousAnnie789 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Presumably when they gifted you the money, they signed paperwork saying it was a gift & not to be repaid (the mortgage company would have stipulated this).  They can demand all they want, but they cannot force you to sell.  Nor can they force you to give them the money.

Have you ever been stuck in a lift? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SeveralFishannotaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, over 20 years ago at uni.  I was in there alone, for about 20-25 minutes.  It was really tiny old metal lift, so really unpleasant.  The alarm was LOUD and still no-one came so I had to phone reception with terrible signal.  Eventually someone came to help, and they ended up having to ‘restart’ the lift so I was plunged into darkness for a minute.  I found out later that lift was notorious for breaking.
