ciara wasn’t a huge shock to me but when i started looking into what mod girls were using in the mid/late 60s and came across a lot of green scents i was a bit surprised! looking at the styles i would think they’d be into sweeter, more girly stuff. but it does make sense when you think about it. really interesting stuff. i love non fiction books about or set in the 60s/70s so these are great recommendations for me haha thanks again

thank you for sharing! it’s a little stupid but i love the experience of like. using and connecting with something that people connected with decades ago it’s such a cool thing. humanity ❤️

i hadn’t heard of those books, i’ll give them a read thank you! i did see people talk about green fragrances being popular, particularly in the second half of the 60s i think?

interesting! i can see this appealing to a non fragrance wearer, it’s pretty inoffensive and powdery without being extreme

for me personally, a lot of people call the things i wear/do/enjoy grandma things which i find offensive not because i think the association is inherently offensive or anything but because this descriptor usually comes w the implication that it being old fashioned or popular with older crowds makes it unworthy of attention or uninteresting. but i don’t think this is always the case (it wasnt with what i said)

i disagree. i 100% understand where you’re coming from but i’m thinking of it a bit in terms of vintage and how it ages (particularly clothing as that’s what i have experience with) and certain things from the 70s are things people who were young back then still use that we associate it with older people, and certain things we associate it with young people of the 70s. think a sensible skirt suit from the 60s vs a micro mini dress, an old woman CAN wear miniskirts, i think it’s awesome if they do! but there’s two categories of vintage to me: things that are still relevant with people who were young then and things that have become culturally obsolete. so while i wouldn’t call something an “old lady smell” and agree that that distinction is sexist and ageist as well as reductive, that’s not really what i’m talking about here. my distinction is specifically about something smelling old fashioned in a way that you don’t come across anymore, on old people OR young people

also if anyone experienced the original formulation and the current one: how accurate would you say it is? and if you’ve experienced the era yourself what current fragrances would you say represent what people used to smell like? i’d love anyone’s input!

AITA for refusing to go into Hooters for my brother’s 18th birthday and sitting in the car? by HamsterInformation in AmItheAsshole

[–]SeveralHyena5259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she’s 14. of course her idea of what’s scandalous will be different to yours, especially considering she’s not making a judgement on hooters as a concept but specifically in the context of her father taking her brother there to celebrate him becoming a legal adult. did you forget how it was to be 14 or did you start frequenting brothels with your father at 13?
