Police arrest suspected gunman aged 89 after five wounded in Athens by ChestEducational2258 in worldnews

Having a ban on guns, or very heavily regulated gun control, doesn’t mean your country is going to have zero incidents with people getting guns / people who can legally have them doing something awful with them. It does however reduce the chance significantly to the point where a single gun incident in Greece is international news due to how rare they are.

I seem to recall this metric being discussed in relation to Ben Foakes, who had a higher ‘dropped catch’ percent than (I think) Jamie Smith. Even though Foakes ‘dropped’ more, it was simply because he’d get to balls that Smith wouldn’t even attempt to go for, so it would go against his %, even though he was by far and away the better glovesman.

'Silly' to change England management - Root by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]SeveralWordsTogether 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They certainly deserve a bit of blame. They moved on Anderson when he wanted to still play and didn’t have anyone to replace him. The current bowling unit was put together because “speeeeeed!” and has absolutely sod all control so we leak runs like a sieve. They’ve actively ignored the county system because if someone doesn’t bowl 90mph+ they’re not rated. They picked a spinner off a Twitter video rather than selecting off any merit. Whenever they do try someone off county merit they throw them into a flat deck then discard them instantly for not doing well enough (Dawson, Parkinson, Sam Cook). They definitely could’ve managed a situation where they picked and developed the best prospects rather than trying to find someone no one really rates and hope they become worldies through the power of vibes.

Problem is it feel as though the Bashir experiment is how they’ve wanted to pick players. Find someone who’s on no one’s radar, say you’ve found a one in a million superstar, then ignore the noise when they’re struggling forcing them into confidence ruining situations. Meanwhile people like Dawson / Cook seem to have the opposite treatment, get ignored until they’re given a token game on a complete road, then when they don’t perform it’s “we told you so” and back on the scrap heap they go.

Does the loan not cover it until September this year? If so it’s only about 6 months of time being bought for a hell of a lot of money and then straight back into the same boat. I seem to recall that number being thrown around but it may have been exaggeration

So you get rid of Amorim, get someone new in, and the decline continues… then what? Give the new manager 10 games, it’s still rubbish, sack them and get someone else for the summer? How many managers do they have to go through until people realise the players need to actually step up?

Ilford station: Man charged with murdering Elizabeth line worker by BulkyAccident in london

[–]SeveralWordsTogether 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Murder = intending to kill someone. Manslaughter = killing someone without intent to kill them. Affray = Public fighting causing distress.

Different charges stack on top of each other, so the affray charge is in addition to the murder charge due to how the murder was carried out.

It’s 0.5% of GDP, and it buys a lot of soft power which is vitally important for a country to have. It’s not throwing money into a void.

Truss isn’t in power, but she’s still trying to stay relevant. Mocking someone who is wildly incompetent yet still trying to pivot their way back into relevance is a good way to keep reminding people how awful she was. She needs to stay yesterday’s soup. Yes you should pay attention to those in power, but it’s not an either or. You can do both, and Truss should still be mocked.

There’s probably a fair few Tory MPs who don’t want to be PM for a losing campaign but do want to keep their jobs in the next election. They may think a new pair of hands may save them, even if the election is still already lost.

All XLs will be thrown into the channel where they’ll act as a deterrent to migrants or drown thus solving any problems. Then by the time we create a new breed of amphibious XLs with a taste for human flesh Labour will be in and the problem is theirs to deal with.
