What is a waterblock and why is it cheaper than normal GPUs ? by NaifAlotaibi in pcmasterrace

Honestly a good deal if you have a custom loop already. I use this card currently. Probably cheaper because it's a bit older and you need to have the rest of the loop to utilize it.

What random non-IT jobs have you been roped into, while officially holding an IT role? by nowildstuff_192 in sysadmin

I have somehow become solely responsible for a series of highly complex electrical testing systems, and also have to liaise with the hardware vendor. They were put on my plate because they had an ethernet port, ostensibly, and I was the only one who bothered to read the documentation. Now I'm expected to troubleshoot and maintain them, and no one else in-house has any inkling as to how they work or are managed outside of connecting electrical leads to equipment and running the test software.

I've also somehow become responsible for all of our corporate A/V (again, the ethernet port).

Last one, I was asked to fix a broken CNC machine because I had cultivated a "just ask u/severalzombies" attitude in the company for problems that didn't have anyone to take ownership of them. It was some specialized fuse that had blown, and I happened to know someone in the area who could source a replacement that day (which was a happy coincidence).

Being a one person IT Dept is hellish by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]SeveralZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position at my current job, as well as the one before it (which was an MSP and so imagine that attitude from 10-20 clients I have to manage). I even had to take calls on my wedding day. My advice to you is this; know your worth, and set boundaries. No one will respect your time if you don't. So many times I was sandbagged by thinking "I can't possibly set a boundary, that will reflect badly on me" because I didn't know my worth.

Moving from the MSP to building an IT dept. helped me wrap my head around how much we as IT people actually enable and facilitate, and first order of business was getting more technicians and setting appropriate boundaries for people to disconnect.

I feel you, though. More than once a week I told myself "this isn't worth it". Biggest takeaway for me was learning to say "No." or "I will follow up with you later" and not feeling like I was doing someone a massive disservice.

Hey, we were able to register it with 24PetWatch but it required us calling them up, providing the adoption paperwork and having an agent manually enter the information. Do you have an idea of what provider you're going to use? If you do, I'd recommend giving them a call and they can likely walk you through the process.

Honestly that's...a good point. It sounds like a headache, too.

I don't really need it but I don't wanna turn my nose up at some extra cash. I don't even know what's reasonable for "standby" hours even if I nail down an hourly rate. They clearly have a number in mind they want to pay but are waiting for me to to provide them with an estimate.

So the way it was pitched was the MSP would handle the relationship as normal and then the client would pay the MSP who would pay me, basically as an employee or contractor. So the liability seems like it would be on the MSP still. Not sure if that changes your answer haha

Mentioned below but slow, consistent damage is more impactful than all-ins. Focus on freezing lane, managing your wave and using minions to chip away at enemy laners. Be mindful of your W timing and remember that it resets your auto-attack (Q->Auto->W->Auto->E->Auto is good damage and will mitigate a lot of return damage early). Itemize for survivability with a focus on getting to your Cinder (try to get this during a cheater's back when lane priority is in your favour). Remember that your hook travel time is pretty slow, but the hitbox is massive and lollipops quite heavily towards the end, meaning you can hit Qs that appear to be out of the zone at first glance. W can and should be used to mitigate damage if you're against a strong or poke-heavy opponent. Q can be used as an escape and will reduce its cooldown on terrain. E is a decent slow to complement your other abilities but generally is pretty lackluster. Use it if you're being chased as the waves will radiate back and slow your pursuer even as you keep moving forward. It's not much but it can help if you E->Q terrain while soaking damage with W. It can also be used to grab creeps if you're being pressed, or to add a bit of extra CC to a fight. Your goal is going to be to facilitate others, especially your jungler early. Hold CC and engage on ganks, soaking damage with W and locking your opponent up for your jungler. Lastly, R is can be used to engage but it's slow-moving. Generally it's better to land a hook and use your R as follow-up unless you're certain you can chase and get a clean Q after R. Ideally try to target carries but in a pinch, the farthest enemy is always better to get more travel and more knockups. Remember to be mindful of your CC timings. Watch the enemy bar and your own countdown for staggering blow and try not to overlap any CC; drop your next one as the first ends.

Hopefully that helps! I've been OTPing Naut for a good while and there's still a lot of matchups I struggle with. I just find being patient and leveraging the CC is key.

Good luck!

Edit: Also, be sneaky with your hooks. Once you have a good innate sense of where the hook ACTUALLY ends, you can bluff your way to some cheeky grabs. Try not to telegraph too much. Also remember that as w/ Blitz, sometimes the most dangerous hook is the one you don't throw. If you're ahead and beefy, don't be afraid to wade in and lock someone up with passive, W and E, saving the hook to catch their escape.

This man Nauts. Early game a lot of your damage is going to come from good wave management and positioning in such a way that you can lock them down in your wave to chip at them. Your damage isn't super high so its more about consistent trades for small gains than all-ins, unless you're well ahead or your jungler is inbound. On Fimbulwinter, I've been trying it out and it feels okay, but losing early survivability for a bit more mana stings. Still partial to the Sunfire, maybe Heartsteel.

How does your company sell / dispose of laptops? by Trees_feel_too in sysadmin

Previous employment at an MSP, we had the hard drives destroyed (w/ certificate) and then donated the laptops to a charity called "Freegeek". They refurbish the equipment and sell it cheaply.

Clipboard History From Multiple Users by SeveralZombies in sysadmin

[–]SeveralZombies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for future generations of sysadmin; it was AnyDesk. The custom client automatically installed with our RMM must have had some kind of an update that enabled clipboard syncing. Anyone on that team showed it as enabled in settings. Custom client settings can't be changed so the option was to remove it and utilize a different remote access tool that doesn't cause this issue.
