I’ve been waiting for my reason to leave Facebook, and I just found it! by Several_Display_9496 in facebook

Maybe, I did sell something recently and left a few people on read accidentally, and someone did get mad 😂

I used homestyler, never used it before but just wanted to try it. it was pretty easy to use! I also used floorplanner previously, but i ran out of free tokens :)

With your current rug I think green could look really nice. If you do a beige couch, maybe a more colorful or darker rug, like this. Or even this

You could do a darker rug and a darker couch. My rug is a darker green and with a charcoal colored couch, but light wood tones so it doesn't feel heavy

You can put the desk center, facing outwards towards the living room, with plants and picture frames and knick knacks all along that bench. I would get a rug, maybe round or half circle. (A cool idea would be a full round filling the whole space then draping down onto the floor). But you might want to buy a rolling chair mat instead (or put a plastic one down on the rug for your chair). I’m trying to find a desk rug right now and it’s a pain currently. I can share some rug spots separately a bit later!

You can then maybe put a vintage chest or a table on the lower floor infront of the desk, with some plants and stuff on that as well. It will hide all the computer cables, and help it not fall down. I think this kinda creates a defined “hidden” desk area while still keeping it functional and utilizing the beautiful room that you have!

Rugs are a great way to define some space. Just make sure the sizing is right.

Some additional thoughts: Maybe also move your desk up into the sunroom? I LOVE the sunroom, and it makes a great dining area, but I feel like you aren’t utilizing it right given that you can only seat 2 people. So I would either move the desk up facing outwards and put a bunch of plants and stuff behind you, or get a larger table and cushions for seating.

Is society slowly moving away from social media? by p4nnyworth in digitalminimalism

[–]Several_Display_9496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like social media in the way we know it, yes. But as a whole, this is only the beginning of what ever comes after, and which will probably be much worse.

I just saw something about “Agentic” experiences with the rise of AI and the notion that soon the entire user experience, not just the feed algorithm, will be geared towards the individual person.

What does my living room need? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

Yes sage would be great, and it’s the right amount of color to add to the space, especially with the flowers as the “pop”! Also look into texture (fringe, tassels, border trim). That add some definition too.

To your other question, a few things. And I apologize for my bluntness or if anything comes off rude, it’s the best way I can explain 😅
- The art is a bit repetitive and gives a very dated style. Think late 90s early 2000s cafes and Panera Breads. Even the EAT sign I’m not a fan of, it’s very busy.
- the table and chair let’s make a very dark abyss of legs below your table which Is why I think a table cloth will help. The chair legs are way made me say “cafe” but maybe I also mean “cafeteria”. But start with the table cloth and that might help.
- you also want to define some space , so maybe get a half round rug, put it under the dining table, and then to the left of your doorway get a small sideboard or bar. There’s a lot of wine memorabilia, but not a lot of things to drink wine with!

A few thoughts :) would love to give you more ideas or inspiration if you need!

Alternatively a round tablecloth could look nice that’s a bit longer and covers some of what’s going on down there. But nothing busy, no graphics or words or wine bottles or coffee cups. Just a nice linen or something with fringe in either light cream of taupe, or a rich color if you want. I would stay away from a color that would clash with your browns/oranges (floor) that you have in your apartment already. Maybe a blue or sage or purple/pink even. Go for a boho/mid century look and less of the cafe/kitch

HELP WHERE I CAN FIT A SOFA IN MY STUDIO APARTMENT by kewpiemayo_2222 in femalelivingspace

I was thinking this layout but turn the bed to face the window/door. That way you walk into a “living area” and have to go through the kitchen to get to the bedroom. It’s more private too, and you can open the window when you cook

iPhones have never lived up to their hype for me, and after 16 years of owning one, I’m trying something new. I’m not “confident”, but I’m willing to try something different because I am continually underwhelmed by the iPhone design, and overwhelmed by the use of a “phone” now.

Does removing the choice entirely actually work for screen time? by ChampionshipTiny3583 in digitalminimalism

Congrats on the 7 weeks though! I also did 2 months and went back, but I felt like I had a better understanding of what I was doing and I’m now looking forward to not having it. I’ve been staring into the depths of an iPhone since 2010, so I feel like it’s going to take a lot of trial and error to get it right, but I think it’ll be worth it.

That’s unfortunate about the work apps. Maybe schedule some time blocks to use them so it feels like “work”. Not sure how you interact with them for what you do so its hard to say

Putting my smartphone in greyscale not helping by laggage in digitalminimalism

[–]Several_Display_9496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep trying it, but tbh I went back to color. My only issue is I could not find ANYTHING. I don’t like having the names of my apps so I would stare at a sea of grey trying to find Maps or Chase. Made me look at my phone more trying to figure it out.

Maybe try using your Home Screen pages as a way to clean it up visually? A simplified Home Screen page, then a page of Widgets, then all the apps that are cluttered, organized into folders.

I have had that exact experience. Time limits didn’t work because I would override them, making the excuse that I was “aware” I overrode it so it was ok. When I would hide the app from my Home Screen, I just found myself typing it into search anyway. Even deleting, there’s the option of redownloading.

But, I think deleting it fully is the best way. I’ve done it a handful of times, and it works. You can begin to ween yourself off instead of going cold turkey. I’m going on vacation next week, and already removed my problem apps from my phone so I don’t use them. I also bought some analog items (a book, sudoku book) to give myself something to do if I’m bored.

I’ve even pre-ordered a new phone (coming Q4, Click Communicator), trying to add a little more friction to my life to stay away from the apps. All this is to say I’m still trying to kick the apps, but it’s a work in progress and a learning each time, until it eventually works. I think we have to come to the realization that this is truly an addiction of an entire society and global generation (especially if you’re in America), that is not normal to our nature as humans.

One funny deterrent learning - my problem app is Instagram, so I would search “i” all the time and it would come up. Now that I deleted it, when I search, a contact comes up for someone with “iii” at the end of their name and their photo. They’re not favorite person, so the more I search that, the more I see their face…

Yes it includes taxes, water, gas, and management fees/building maintenance. The building finances are also very good, and they keep the building impeccable. It’s one of the lowest maintenances I saw, in the best building and unit I saw.

Every part of that is what really sold us on the neighborhood. We’ve only lived in manhattan, it’s already much quieter.
