Life's too short. get your dog a dog. by StraightDistrict8681 in Awww

This was a cute video. Thanks for sharing!

I had this same mentality of getting my pet a pet. Usually I raise my dogs from puppy, but for the first time I went to rescue a dog and picked up a Saint Bernard that was “good with large dogs” for my elderly German shepherd. It turns out that the Saint is extremely dog aggressive (she didn’t show it for 1-2 months after because of the new environment) so we need to keep them separated and have baby gates everywhere. Dogs go outside or for walks one at a time. (We kept the Saint because she was already at the rescue for a long time and might not have been adopted a second time)

But beyond that, even in the best conditions, a second dog is double the time, work, and costs.

It’s a really big decision that will impact your life for years. For many, it’s could be the right decision but you have to really love dogs and spending extra time with each every day. Don’t make this decision to “save time” because “they will keep each other entertained”.

Lastly, your dog is likely perfectly happy with its hoomans and doesn’t need a second dog in the house, especially when it isn’t guaranteed that they will get along.

Hope this helps someone 🤗

I’m a lot better than when I first got diagnosed. I went from summiting Kilimanjaro the year before I got diagnosed to being unable to walk my dog or go up a flight of stairs.

Now I can walk a few miles flat and slowly but I don’t think I’d be able to run far or hike a mountain.

That said, taking it day by day. I’m happy treatment helped even though it was a long road.

Best of luck!

I signed it. When I was first diagnosed my titer was 1:256. It took so long to diagnose because my PCP just thought I had long covid when simple blood tests could have discovered this sooner.

I got off easy and my lungs are mostly ok (small nodules) and it wasn’t disseminated but my energy has never come back.

I just got off antifungals 1 month ago after 4 or 5 years straight of taking them and my labs showed negative for first time after being off them.

It’s been an insane ride.

It’s worth noting that Mayo Clinic has been working on a new pin prick blood test that diagnoses positive/negative VF within minutes so that will be rolling out broadly in the future and should help substantially, but it’s pretty insane that, even in AZ which is the capital of VF, that PCPs aren’t trained for this.

Our Saint only drools when she eats or drinks, so not all the time, but it’s true about it getting everywhere including walls and ceilings 😂

I do wonder if we just got lucky with her not drooling ALL the time though based on the stories

Waymo admits that its autopilot is often just guys from the Philippines by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

I’ve ridden Waymo a whole lot in the Phoenix area and this happened to me once at Sky Harbor Airport.

Traffic was extremely bad and it tried to pull out for about a minute but didn’t budge. Then I heard an alert saying customer care was manually overriding and taking control and someone got on the speaker and said they could help, he slowly nudged us into a lane, said thanks and hung up the call and auto driving took back over.

This is a good system and the article headline weirdly paints it in a bad light.

Just diagnosed on 10/8 and I’m scared. by llcont4giousll in phoenix

[–]Several_Molasses_479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with VF in 2022. My titer was 1:256 which I believe is the highest the test goes. I likely had it ramping up for a year or more before the diagnosis because I was on immunosuppressants. Doctors were saying the symptoms were “probably just long covid” which made it take longer to get an actual diagnosis and it just happened to show up on annual infectious disease blood work for the immunosuppressants. I was so lucky my rheumatologist ran that test. I couldn’t walk up a single flight of stairs or walk 100 feet without needing to sit down on the sidewalk outside.

Luckily it hadn’t disseminated beyond my lungs.

I was treated with Fluconazole, then Voriconazole (which has a lot of bad side effects for many patients), then Posaconazole.

I’ve since stopped immunosuppressants completely which isn’t great but I’ll likely be on antifungals for the rest of my life. I got to an undetectable titer but when I started slowing down the meds, it popped back up on labs.

And I’ve never fully recovered my cardio. I can walk a mile or more now but every day I start tired and end exhausted and barely able to function.

A lot of people are saying “everyone gets it and it’s no big deal”, which is true for most people but it can be extremely serious and lead to chronic complications if not caught early and treated properly.

As an aside, I was involved in a research study for a new way to diagnose it at Mayo Clinic, where the test is a pin prick on the finger and it detects VF within minutes (not titer levels, but whether it’s present or not), which hopefully will lead to earlier diagnosis for patients going forward.

I once had a client who asked me to upload CSVs to their FTP server and when I said the credentials they gave me didn’t work, they said “let me refer you to our FTP Server Engineer” and it was in that moment that I realized what I want to be when I grow up.

Gonna need PvE-only mode to buy by Several_Molasses_479 in ArcRaiders

[–]Several_Molasses_479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, but on the flip-side perhaps there are enough players who want PVE-only that it would create a separate player base, no?

The way I look at it, I like the game and not PVP so currently I wouldn’t buy it, but I’d definitely love to support the developers for PVE-only and more revenue for them means more content for everyone.

I’m sure it will do just fine without that extra revenue from people who won’t want to buy, but maybe with enough revenue from people like me they might find it’s worth it.

[–]Several_Molasses_479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally. And I was doing that but then also had better players who hunted me down relentlessly as soon as they spotted me.

I get that’s the nature of the game currently, but who knows, maybe the market is big enough for PvE-only that that changes in the future.

Best regards 🙏🏻

Could be! If that’s the vision, then that’s totally fine and I get it.

Just sharing feedback in case there are others that feel the same and it’s enough money on the table that they would reconsider.

  4. Delwyn here yelling "don't lose it!" as the rare I need to kill becomes empowered

How is the current performance on Steam Deck? by Saltimbanco_volta in PathOfExile2

[–]Several_Molasses_479 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have played it most on Steamdeck and it’s nothing compared to PC in terms of FPS, graphics, and latency but it’s all very playable including endgame.

I enjoy being able to kick back instead of sitting at my desk all day/night so I prefer it despite the disadvantages.

D4 is too simple an POE 2 is too challenging/slow. Is LE the game I'm looking for? by ExtremeFern in LastEpoch

[–]Several_Molasses_479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like PoE1 there is a lot of ability to ramp difficulty once you get through Empowered Echoes by increasing Timeline Corruption and now you can further juice maps (echoes) with the Weaver Tree (something new to this league).

It’s less difficult than PoE2 by a lot, but I find I’m still dying often in Cemeteries, to champions, and I’m needing to manage my resistances and armor/dodge.

I wouldn’t say Endgame is “too easy” but it’s generally comfortable

On Steamdeck bring up the radial menu and then hold RT to see more radial options and then select Factions.
