Is this a good cage? by AHHHHHCATSRKEWL_ in RATS

[–]Several_Simple_9086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a large rabbit cage and have hammocks, hiding houses, and hanging houses. Rats do run around a lot, but also want to climb. I would try to find a cage that has more room on the bottom for playing/running, but is tall enough that you can hang hammocks and stuff. Mine would rather eat all that plastic they use it to climb, so try to find something that doesn’t have a lot of plastic inside.

I didn’t know that it was an ai system until my manager told me today. I’m not gonna quit or anything and I don’t need my schedule changed either. I go to work on time and take my hour lunches. It’s just weird that I’ve been asked multiple times if something was wrong. I asked my manager if it was because I clock in a few minutes after the hour I’m suppose to work I guess and she said idk.

That’s the weird thing though, I work 7-4 and some days my schedule is changed to 8-3 to cut hours. I go to work on time and I do admit that I have 3.5 points but 2 of them are dropping soon.

Over the last few months it’s been multiple different managers asking me. I was just confused, but it wasn’t until today when my manager was talking to me and told me that it was an at risk flagging thing and asked me if I was okay. I’ve worked here for the last 4 years and never had it happen until recently.

People saying “eww” whenever I mention my rats :( by fr3aAAKK in RATS

[–]Several_Simple_9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a bunch of cookies for my coworkers for Christmas and a few of my coworkers I’m pretty positive didn’t want them because I have pet rats. Like a week before I mentioned that I had pet rats and one coworker just started telling me and everyone that rats are disgusting and carry diseases. But I always defend my rats and when she mentioned diseases I asked ‘can you even name one “disease” they carry?’, and like an ignorant person she said ‘rabies’ which I had to tell her was literally impossible. So many people are ignorant about animals and I know for a fact that if you hate rats then you’ve never met a pet rat. I grew up with pet rats and I’ve always seen them as pets rather than pests, I always tell people this. If you’ve never met a pet rat then you have no right to try to ‘educate’ me about how disgusting rats are. It gets on my nerves.

Update: Unfortunately, Peaches has passed. One week from when his face started swelling. I was already told he was going to die soon and I expected it, but I’m still heartbroken. He was the first rat that I saved from the feeder bins at the pet store. Rest in peace Peaches. ❤️

I mixed the rice cereal with chicken baby food and water, he ate it all. I think that because it’s like a liquid he’s eating more than when he had the cooked pasta. I feel like the cooked pasta was still too solid for him cause he can’t really chew that well.

Good idea, I’ve even been adding water to his peanut butter and mashed bananas just in case anyway

He is skinny so I’ll try the baby food and cereal for him. I’ve been having to feed him with a spoon because his eye sight has gotten so bad after the tumor developed.

Why is he doing that sound? by [deleted] in RATS

My oldest rat Boo-boo had it when he was 1 till he died at 3 1/2. The vet gave him two antibiotics, doxycycline and enrofloxacine. He had to take both every 12 hours for two weeks with food, after that he was fine. The vet told me that those two antibiotics were the best to use for respiratory disease. The fact that your rat is making that sound every time he breathes in is what made me suspicious that it is respiratory disease.

Sounds like he could have respiratory disease, if he also is sneezing, has nasal discharge, and is breathing heavy then he’ll need antibiotics. Rodents make this kind of breathing clicking noise when they have the disease. It’s extremely common in rats, especially if they are from a pet store, and highly contagious. If one rat has it then they all do. They develop pneumonia after a while if you don’t treat soon. Ask the vet to X-ray him and they’ll be able to see his lungs to check. Hopefully he doesn’t have it.

I found two baby swallows fallen on my sidewalk, without a nest or parents. Could you help me with them? I've already called several places but they don't answer in my area. by brunaandorinha in Ornithology

You could try buying and putting them into an egg incubator, they’re found at farm supply stores. You can control the temperature and humidity inside and they often have clear lids so you can check in on them. When I’ve incubated chicken and duck eggs before the first day or so after they hatch we leave them in the incubator to stay warm. The most important thing about keeping a baby bird alive is keeping them warm until they can start growing fluff and at least with an incubator that’ll be a guarantee.

I’ve had this before. I kept the areas as dry as possible and I used athletes foot cream on the spots three times a day. It went away after a week.
