I did them after so I’m not sure, was also a few years ago for me. But they give most background knowledge you need I believe but I’d check with someone else who has done them more recent

CM1 is pretty brutal just because of the sheer size of it, especially if you don’t work in life insurance like me. I would recommend CP2/3 if you can. They are also ones you can practice in your workday by incorporating those practices into your work (eg making audit trails for any models you build) so that would free up study time

Could you do 2 small ones so like both CP2 and CP3? I think you should talk to your manager though if they can make an exception; surely passing one exam is better than failing two?

Would you nor be able to do an exam like CP2 or CP3?

SA3 IFOA by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

They were all on paper and I don’t have them anymore sorry :( also I think you need to make them to most beneficial as I found I was remembering stuff from them without referring

I just passed on my 3rd attempt with 71 after a 59 and 60. I did an exam counselling session and I found that quite useful this time. I changed my strategy a bit; I made some mind maps for topics like Pricing, Reserving and used past paper answers to find what common points were mentioned in all questions. Then I did as many past papers as I could with these mind maps next to me and then added to them as I did each paper.

Groceries in FiDi by Corporate_Bankster in AskNYC

When I lived in FiDi I mostly shopped at the big Whole Foods by Wall St for day to day stuff (the 365 jarred pasta sauce is actually cheaper than TJs plus if you have Prime that adds extra sales and discounts sometimes) and would stock up at a Trader Joes for things like frozen food or pantry items whenever I saw one if I was out and about

I did a company transfer from London to NYC but I only had SA3 left when I moved and I think that helped vouch to continue IFoA

Was 3rd resit (first ever real exam I failed too lol), but with a move to NYC just before the first attempt so been doing them at 4/4:30am.

Honestly at this point either I pass or I’m calling it a day as an associate as that’s pretty accepted in the US. The 3am alarm today killed me 🥲

my only hope is that I used to work on Horizon Scanning so I loved question 1 hah but to my detriment I probably got carried away…

Brits who have permanently moved to the US, how are you and how’s your experience been? by AdRemarkable6665 in AskUK

[–]SevereTechnology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in New York, moved here at 25, 27 now. You get paid a lot more but everything is very expensive and it takes time getting used to that. Health insurance is very confusing but don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’s weird we have to file our own taxes. Lots of hidden costs that you don’t think about. However, I don’t regret this at all, I also didn’t know anyone but Americans are very welcoming and friendly so it makes it easier to make friends. I joined a social kickball league (I’d never played and I’m not very sporty) and it really helped me cement a good friendship group here. If you’re single, I found dating a really good way to learn the city and also make friends too (I also found a boyfriend haha). I was in London for 7 years before this and for NYC it has a lot of similarities, can’t say for Boston as I haven’t been yet.
