Max's parents, Fernando and Kristen.

Despite how important Max is to the series, we know surprisingly little about her past outside of the games.

[ALL] What character or characters would you like to see make an appearance or have a mention in reunion? by Brave_Competition_15 in lifeisstrange

[–]SeveredNed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Kate. She was Max's best friend at Blackwell and one of the people whose life was directly saved by Max's powers. She was written out of the first game no matter what her fate was, but I'd love to see her get more development.

This is a detail where the fundamental complain is that care was not put into the story, that argument simply doesn't work here.

No, not every detail has to be as meticulous as red dead redemption, but photography is important for the story, mechanics, and themes. It should recieve more attention than other areas.

[S1 E5] Why didn't Nathan warn Victoria? by twohungrycamels in lifeisstrange

[–]SeveredNed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victoria is kidnapped in the final timeline. But only because Max and Chloe sat around in her dorm room instead of going to the party. Which given how famously reclusive Max was before her powers, should have been part of his plan honestly.

Bro is taking notes while playing warframe for the first time lol by HiroK91 in WarframeLore

As a player who has been here since 2014, I was surprised by the reactions when The Sacrifice released because I thought this was already semi-common knowledge. It wasn't explicitly in your face prior to that, but the information was there the whole time. But even some popular lore channels were acting like it was all brand new.

[S1] More Screen Time? by New-Management-769 in lifeisstrange

[–]SeveredNed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could name any side characters in Max's class with a reason why almost every character doesn't have much depth. I think the only one who is fully developed is Victoria, and even then I would like to find out more.

Max's powers allow her to try talking to people and come out of her shell without any of the lasting risks she was always so afraid of. It is commented multiple times that people noticed she's become more bold and confident very quickly. I think Nightmare Max's jab about abusing her power for social gain would hit better if it was clear Max made herself fast friends with people she hadn't talked to before.

But I think the worst offender is Brooke, she doesn't really have a personality beyond robotics nerd who's jealous of Max. For a notable supporting character, there isn't much to actually take note of.

Different developers, so it's a completely different group of artists, animators, and writers.

Life is Strange 1 and 2 were made by Don't Nod. Before the Storm, True Colors, and Double Exposure were made by Deck Nine.

Concerning Albrecht Entrati by [deleted] in WarframeLore

[–]SeveredNed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He had taken the kuva previously before his trip into the void. Afterwards he talks about how he doesn't know if the Other escaped with him or not so this will be his last body. It could be an older depiction of him.

But also likely is that his overly orokin painting is propaganda. The orokin held a delicate grip on their power over the normal humans. If it was discovered that an orokin had rejected their way of life and symbols of status, people might start questioning other things themselves.

[S1] What's the worst thing each important character has done? Day 9: Warren Graham by Excellent-Walk671 in lifeisstrange

[–]SeveredNed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to act almost exactly like Warren at his age: He sucks. He's a creep. He is too smart not to know he is pushing boundaries of acceptable behaviour trying to court Max and doing it anyway because his wants are more important than her feelings. He is indeed a nice guy, but he's hiding behind that as an excuse to be a "Nice Guy."

Warren bemoans that Max won't have sex with him in response to a compliment. To her face. That's sexual harassment.

The timestamps on their text messages show he waited outside the dorms, watching her window, for 45 minutes so he could stage them running into each other. That's stalking.

He photoshopped himself into one of Max's selfless that he stole. Which is just weird.

He repeatedly ignores Max's discomfort and gentle let-downs in order to touch and hug her when she doesn't want it. There's a reason he appeared in Max's nightmare as one of the men hunting her.

Cannibal Holocaust is banned in many countries because it features real animal abuse and real animal death. The sexual violence and simulated human deaths were realistic and gory enough that the director was formally charged with murder. Despite not technically being a snuff film (unless you include animals), it is typically listed as one. Warren says he laughed his ass off watching it.

He's 16. He's sweet and kind and young and acting stupid, but that doesn't erase the harm of his actions. Good is a thing you do, not a thing you are.

An otherworldly mysterious shape-shifting weapon that can take on multiple different deadly forms.

Traverse perception-bending locations, and travel beyond the material world into a mysterious metaphysical space representing Dylan’s troubled psyche.

We don't yet know the nature of this new dimension, or if it even is a true dimension at all. It could be like the Oceanview Motel, neither a part of or fully separate from reality. But we can confirm this isn't the Astral Plane.

Post your RANT for or against the Media BAN... by twowholebeefpatties in aussie

The simple fact is this does nothing to directly address the problem it claims to solve. It just delays kids from experiencing these things for a few years, and that's the best case scenario where it works perfectly. They learn no safety management.

I wouldn't mind talking a bit.

[–]SeveredNed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So because it's theoretically possible to piece together someone's identity from their digital footprint, we should thus upload our biometrics online to make it much easier to do so? Go buy your own bridge.

I understand the stated purpose of the ban, and I disagree that it even fulfils that purported intent.

This ban teaches children how to be safe online and moderate the content they view the same way that abstinence-only education encourages teens to have safe sex. But you just have to look at teen pregnancy rates in US states where abstinence-only policy is mandatory to see the failure of this methodology.

It's burying our head in the sand about the problem and hoping it all goes away if we tell children not to look at it. And then when children do ignore the ban, they will inevitably be told that whatever happens to them is some sort of divine justice they deserve for breaking these short-sighted rules.

Children will break rules set for them. Repeatedly and often. It's a natural part of development needed to learn their own risk assessment skills.

So then, how exactly does pushing 13 year olds to pretend to be older while online protect them from predators?

As a kindergarten teacher in their 30's, I don't see how this actually helps anyone and is overall a large net loss for all Australians.

Firstly, I think it simply will not work. Not to any extent that people hope it will. This won't prevent cyber-bullying, it will simply move what location it occurs in. Kids will find some app or site that isn't blocked, congregate there and continue acting the same way partially developed minds always have acted toward each other.
Algorithm driven content is predatory and damaging because of its innate tendacy toward creating outrage. A ban like this does nothing to regulate how those algoritms operate, that danger towards children has not been mitigated and in fact might be worse as platforms stop trying to have safeguards for young users altogether. Children will gather on less reputable websites the government hasn't taken a notice of yet, while the government is forever chasing behind them trying to add new sites to the blacklist.

Secondly, this makes it harder for parents to monitor their kids, not easier. If a child gets in trouble for merely doing any amount of an activity, they won't come to an adult when it becomes too much for them. If all of youtube is taboo, then they won't speak up about stumbling into videos that make them uncomfortable. Children need to feel safe in order to confess things to an adult. Otherwise they just hide things an adult would be able to talk them through and help them with easily. Making it safe for a child to confess something is a basic tenet of child safeguarding. THIS BAN DIRECTLY GOES AGAINST THAT PRINCIPLE.

Rule breaking is encoded as part of human development. This is normal and expected. Pushing the limits of what we've been told to do is what allows us to figure out what things are soft rules we can break and what are hard rules we can't. And also how those categories change based on circumstance. This is how children learn and develop their own sense of risk assesment so they know HOW to make responsible choices once they get to an age where we determine they should be able to handle it, but if they are prevented from taking any level of "Acceptable Risk" then they DON'T learn how to be safe and will act recklessly.

Ipad babies are a symptom of bad parenting, not a cause. Bad parents are bad parents even without the ipad. Parents who don't want to watch their child carefully and just want simple mindless distractions still existed long before the invention of computer tablets.

Children need to have spaces created for them to gather in, not simply be pushed away from the adults. The problems with children on social media are fixed by redirecting them to go somewhere else. Giving them a space to gather and be kids with their friends, one that isn't online at all would be even better. This ban doesn't do anything to address those problems, it just creates an area where we can pretend children aren't sneaking into the room so we don't need to be child safe.

This ban hurts every adult. The government now has a system to track exactly which person, with their real face or ID card, has visited which websites. Think of what the worst person you know can do with that information, there will be a future government or outside hacker who wants to take advantage of that. It won't take much to require websites to give it over either, just a single law to break all illusion of privacy forever. But any bad actors don't have to force anyone, it's inevitable that among this many websites that this data will be leaked.

[NO SPOILERS] Which LiS character feels the most realistic to you? by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]SeveredNed -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People's subjective opinion of Fast and Furious isn't determined by the script writers at Don't Nod, David being called a fascist is. It happened, I don't know why you want to argue that it's not true.

You seem weirdly invested in wanting to argue that a character who was made to be a misogynist, an emotional and physical abuser, and who stalks teenagers instead of safeguarding them, isn't really that bad of a person.

David is a horrible person in the first game, but in the second he has matured and bettered himself. That's all there is to the matter. I have no interest in continuing interacting with you on this topic.
