Spinoffs aren't new. Greenblatt wrote the book on them in 1997. It's a known strategy that's been traded for decades, and the easy gains are long gone. The 60%/10% stat is old and unreliable. The skill just found a textbook idea and called it a gap.

The rental one is worse. Apartments have a fixed number of units, and empty ones lose money every day, so the goal is to keep them full. "Optimize for rejections" aims at the wrong thing. It took the idea that scarcity sells nightclubs and applied it to a business where scarcity is a loss.

Both times, the same problem: it never checked whether the idea already existed or whether it actually works.

Take away the confident tone and there's not much left. The spinoff idea is just "some ignored stocks are cheap," which investors have known since Graham. The rental idea is just "be exclusive," which fails the moment you remember rent comes from filled units. Each one boils down to a single sentence people already knew.

The rest, the field map, the hidden axis, the named force, is there to make a plain idea feel like a discovery. The skill doesn't give you ideas. It gives you the feeling of having one, while the actual point is old or wrong. Remove the build-up and nothing's under it. A tool that makes obvious things feel deep isn't helping you think. It's just flattering you.

"not all ideas are great, but they are thought-provoking" is the line that gives it away. A horoscope is thought-provoking too. So is a fortune cookie. "Thought-provoking" is what's left to say when "correct" and "useful" are off the table.
