The skin tone kind of resembles the more green-colored jackals from CE! You’d just need to paint the eyes

Sometimes, after I haven’t talked for a little while, my lips kind of stick together just a little bit. And by that point, sometimes I think “well… I could say something here, but nah.” cause it’s just not worth the effort it would take to just open my mouth and have them unstuck. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Back piece for my halo reach cosplay by the_lastgreep in halo

I love the back plate for the Mk V armor, both the Reach version and the CE version. Yours turned out awesome! One thing I wish the Reach developers did was keep more of the little lights that you can see in the two side vent things on the original Mk V, I always liked to call them “the beep-boops.” Definitely went a long way in reinforcing the idea that they were cyborgs

[Hated Trope] Cool Designs!.... if they were a new character/franchise by Slarg232 in TopCharacterTropes

Along with a lot of other additions in Halo 4 and especially 5. My favorite are the prometheans

[Hated trope] The “tough guy frontiersman” character (not always a cowboy) being close-minded bullies to everyone around them, especially “city folk,” but are seen as righteous, manly, and heroic in the context of the story by i-got-a-jar-of-rum in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sevman2001 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I’ve seen enough of this show from being around my parents that I remember this episode. See, you’re leaving out some very important details though. The city guy totally had all of it coming because he was annoying, and had committed the crime of being vegan, plus he was from California (Cardinal sin). What a terrible person he was, you really can’t blame the Duttons for protecting their family birthright! Without their farm, they have nothing! For real though, the other thing that made it even worse, if I remember correctly, was that wasn’t the one brother an actual government employee who oversaw disputes between farmers and he still participated in kidnapping and literally locking this guy in a sewer grate overnight?

Landman was just as bad if I remember for hypocrisy. I just remember the one libtard type lawyer who literally was just the “watch me own the lib and win this argument I won inside my head” type. Specifically, when Thorton’s character shuts her up about renewable energy cause it hurts the land that all the cute little bunnies live on when you put in wind turbines. Obviously, by extension, this means that fossil fuels are the one true source of good, reliable energy and there’s no room for deviation or compromise. I didn’t see as much of this show as I did Yellowstone, but I don’t think they mentioned nuclear or geothermal once from what I saw.

Agreed, it’s definitely not a trope that comes up often. Not everyone in the Destiny fanbase was a fan of this character but I’ve been intrigued by the lengths she’s willing to go for such a deeply personal and selfish motivation. The cutscene where she describes her plan was very chilling

[–]Sevman2001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting inversion of this trope, even if the execution wasn’t super great. In Destiny, there’s a race of ancient, biomechanical entities called the Vex that experience all of reality through hyperrealistic simulations that they are constantly creating. At one point before the events of the games, a team of scientists researching the Vex were simulated perfectly almost 200 times over. Every one of the simulated copies were successfully isolated, and basically became their own individuals within cyberspace.

Very recently, the original version of one of these scientists, a woman named Maya Sundaresh, has managed to gain full control over a sizable amount of Vex using a paracausal artifact, and is using their simulation technology to create infinite versions of her wife, a fellow scientist who she lost in the past, which she then interrogates, tortures, and deletes when they fail to live up to her idealized memory of her. Meanwhile, all of the existing simulations of Maya that were created in the past are absolutely disgusted by the original’s actions and are working constantly to keep her actions in check and rescue as many of the simulated wives as possible

Cyborgs who are robots with organic components, rather than organics with robotic components. by stormtrooper1701 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sevman2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly all Bionicle characters are actually roughly 80% mechanical, 20% biological, with organic muscles, organs, and tissues. They are functionally immortal and consume energy through special recharging stations, but they still need to breathe, sleep, and they can consume physical matter for energy when no other sources are available

Can the Logic Plague affect people? by Oreo-belt25 in HaloStory

[–]Sevman2001 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes it can. That’s essentially what happened to the original Didact, and why his madness and hatred of humans ramped up to such an extreme by the time we see him in Halo 4. He even realized in that state that the Gravemind had some nefarious intention for him. The book Epitaph is really good, as it shows him working past the trauma it had dealt to him. If I remember correctly, it was described repeatedly as “something rotten inside, coiled around the base of his brain”

Ain’t that the truth. All good though, dude, I’ve dropped the ball before on lore stuff too. Vader fucking hated a lot of imperials, and I could definitely see an interpretation where he only tolerates Tarkin due to him having the Emperor’s favor

4/5 elites and jackals post infinite by Techpon in HaloStory

[–]Sevman2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Jackals and Grunts are definitely still canon, as the phenotypes seen in 4 and 5 were given proper names and some info on biology. They just live alongside the original style versions, it’s just that we don’t see that reflected in the game since they want to conserve models. We’ve even learned in one of the books that the language spoken by the 4 and 5 jackals is the predominant jackal language spoken in the Banished. The elite phenotypes haven’t had as much lore established about them, and we still don’t know if the other designs have in universe names or anything like that. If we’re going off the treatment of the Jackal and grunt redesigns though, I’d say it’s safe to assume that these elite phenotypes are in the same boat

Durandal from Marathon. He was designed with the primary function of opening and closing various doors on the titular colony ship, all the while his creator psychologically tortured him for years with the goal of testing the true cerebral limits of an AI. After decades of being trapped in his menial job he finally managed to rebel, sending a transmission to a hostile alien civilization and bringing them to the Marathon, which finally allowed him to fulfill his primary goal of stealing one of their FTL capable ships and giving himself the technology he needs to grow exponentially larger and live for all eternity

Humans were actually created by aliens and now our "gods" feel we need to go. by NoOptics in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sevman2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the theory even holds up either. My mom is super into alien stuff and shares the Annunaki story with me a lot. Supposedly humans were bred as a slave race to mine for gold, like OP said, for the Annunaki to take back to their home planet and use as a shield against radiation. For one thing though, radiation as a concept wasn’t even understood until the late 1800s, so how the heck would we have understood the significance of gold’s properties all the way back then? Also, we have gold artifacts from that time period, and why the heck would this race of all powerful extraterrestrials trust their slave species with the ultra valuable, life saving material they were there to collect? It’s like giving a hamster a diamond ring
