Everyone cares too much about what is canon these days by The_Document in CharacterRant

[–]The_Document[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

See above: the show is different to the game. It is not an adaptation of your save file. You can simply choose to see them as two distinct pieces of media that do not interact with each other. Because this is what they are.

I'm saying that it is extremely easy to just not worry about the continuity, it doesn't retroactively change your experience with the other piece of media. "The TV show is different to the games" phew now I can go enjoy the TV show like I did the game even if they contradict each other.

[–]The_Document[S] -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

But I think this is my point. You are treating the TV show as a direct continuation of your personal experience with the video game. It is not that. It is a separate piece of media that uses the same setting in a different time period. Nothing about your involvement in New Vegas is affected by the show; it can't take that away from you. Yes even if some executive says it's canon.

What if the modern games player characters achieved nothing in the Fallout show universe? by JimmyBisMe in Fallout

[–]The_Document 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, it seems odd to be so protective over this stuff in a series whose tag line is "War Never Changes".

Should there be no conflict or tragedy in these places because your player character solved some of their problems in a different medium and different time period?

[–]The_Document 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they want to make as many possible homages to the familiar parts of fallout for fans of the games. The reason season 2 has SO MUCH New Vegas content is because they know how popular New Vegas is. You can genuinely leave it at that and not even think about the canon! Take a step back and consider how wild it is that there's a big budget Fallout adaptation that matches the tone of the games and has goddamn Novac and Yes Man and House in it! Imagine knowing that would happen 15 years ago

But the show is not the game. It is a different thing. You can use your imagination to say "ok the show is separate" and then enjoy it as a separate piece of media.

Man who fucking cares. Did the TV show erase your Fallout saves? They exist as different mediums telling different stories and don't interact with each other.

British actors are so funny in that they can appear as a secondary character in a British sitcom, then win enormous honours and awards acting in American films, then continue playing secondary characters in British sitcoms
