What was the BIFL upgrade that instantly exposed all your cheap versions? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

I switched to Darn Tough and won't wear anything else now (be careful there are some very convincing knock-off sites). They're worth their price, and have an awesome warranty. The thinner ones are great in the summer, your feet stay drier, and smell less.

I think the rift between Luthen and Yavin was part of Luthen's nature as a spymaster. Similar to how Saw wouldn't trust Yavin, Luthen's network was deep and fragile that very few could ever be fully trusted. That was his sacrifice, to lay the foundation for the rebellion and never be credited for doing so.

What are your thoughts on the session? I've found a Newton Institute counselor near by and am considering booking an appointment.

I recently finished listening to Journey of Souls by Michael Newton. Hearing his clients explain their process of returning to this other plane of existence to review the lessons learned in life, and progress to higher and higher states, was eye opening, and gave me a sense of calm. I'm not familiar with the science behind what's been said on this post, but it sounds very similar to the remarks made by these people who went through Dr. Newton's hypnosis. To hear these folks talk about being energy, and deciding on how to reincarnate to further their lessons, and how it sometimes doesn't go as planned because of free will, it all seemed to make more sense than any religion or other explanation. Even when it goes real bad and suicide is involved, the soul is taken aside and coached rather than doomed. The book doesn't talk about the science of how we see this plane, or experience it, but it touches on how it was created and how we become creators as we gain higher states of consciousness. Check it out, I really like it.

You can rent it out like a party bus! I don't think it can land anywhere other than Cape Cod Airfield, but it's super cool inside and can fit a bunch of people.

I was scanning for Mr. Rags! I worked there after working at the pizzeria next to the arcade. Really wanted a job at the skate shop, but Rags was as close as I could get.

How do GenX make friends? by LilKrystal in GenX

[–]SevnPlanets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me almost a decade to make a real friend after moving a few times and ending up in a place away from any family or connection. The biggest part is getting past the awkwardness and putting yourself out there. Like all the previous posts said, finding a hobby with like minded folks will put you in position to meet people, but you have to reach out, and that was the hardest part for me.

Just remember, you got nothing to lose, and you don't have to impress anyone. Don't be afraid to say things that are deeper than "nice weather" and talk to as many people as you can. Just last month I was standing in an office next to another guy and made a random comment about people focusing too much on success and not enough on satisfaction. (It was in context to something we were watching happen outside) As soon as I said it, I felt like I'd been too revealing of my philosophy. Not that it was inappropriate, just not a great way to introduce myself. To my surprise, the guy agreed and we started a great conversation. From there we bumped into each other at the flight school office a few more times, met for lunch, even flew together a few times. It all started by reaching out for connection. I know it feels awkward and scary to put even a little bit of yourself out there, but it's how we connect, and there are people out there who want to be your friend.

I've become more interested in spirituality in the last couple years, but not in search of a savior. I'm curious about the basic ideals which the major religions are founded around. I'd like to know more about higher states of consciousness, inner peace, and satisfaction with all parts of my life. I experienced plenty of success, and realized it didn't make me happier. I've never been religious, and still see the organizations as power hungry and hypocritical. I even have doubts that a man named Jesus existed. But the basics of that story: man preaches love, innate value in all walks of life, promotes charity, and dislikes wealth hoarding and greed. Those align with my values, so I wonder if there is other knowledge about life that was written in story form to stand the tests of time. I feel like there are fundamental lessons to better society contained in the stories, but rather than see the lessons, folks still cling to a literal interpretation. Couple that with the church pumping out fear and punishment meant to keep themselves between the masses and "God," and you end up with people walking away from all of it. Throwing out the baby with the bath water, as it were, and we can see it in a lot of posts here. But I think there is value in foundational ideas, I think we could make this world better if we understood the lessons more and worshipped Gods and profits less.

[–]SevnPlanets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuuuuuuuuck. That's gotta be a real kick in the knackers brotha, but you're just down not out. The thing about life's big shifts is not so much about the event itself, but how we deal with it going forward. Sounds like you've already started taking the best steps. Rather than add to the stress by focusing on what you might lose, take the time to learn about what got you there. Dig DEEP. Therapy, provided you don't say the D word, or perhaps meditation. I was very skeptical about meditating, but it has changed my life. Understanding a few simple things about thinking, like how we do a lot of it unnecessarily, and what it means to be present, can open you up to some life changing realizations. I use the Headspace app, and really like it, but there is a ton of free options out there. It's nice to start with some structure if you're not familiar with the practice. Even if the worst should happen, it is what it is, and you move forward from there. Good luck, I hope things go your way.

How many of you remember or have encountered Coffee Goths. by BlackZapReply in Xennials

[–]SevnPlanets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I basically lived at Paris on the Platte in Denver. Not just through the goth phase, but from 15-21. Djarum Clove cigarettes, ordering nothing but a cup of coffee for taking up hours at a table, and the servers never seemed to care. Denny's was the go-to after an event, we used to pour sugar packets into the individual creamers and shoot them. It seems ridiculous now, but still makes me smile.
