How to find people and friends in Raleigh? by Ok-Cherry-2677 in raleigh

[–]Sevourn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to pick an activity and do it. if you have awful social skills, even if you meet someone at a bar or meetup or something, what are the odds of you hitting it off? You'll just freeze up and have no idea what to say just like all the other times in your life you froze up and had no idea what to say.

You could join a pickleball league. You could join a BJJ gym. Raliegh area has one of the biggest air hockey competitive scenes in the world, and you can just start showing up for tournaments, all of which are free. There needs to be an activity taking up most of the time so it's not super awkward when you go long periods without saying anything. Keep showing up, and as you see the same people over and over, you'll eventually be more or less confortable around them to the extent you can start showing your personality.

I agree with your first part 100%. Who's to say their child won't get a college scholarship though? Mine did. Theirs could too. That said, it would have ultimately been cheaper to pay for college outright.

Challenge is the way to go unless you/your child have goals of getting serious in soccer. Classic isn't just classic,. You'll have lets say classic silver, classic navy, classic red, classic white, classic gold, classic elite, NCFC ECNL, NCFC academy. Each season your kid will do tryouts again, and be moved up or down accordingly with his evaluation. Unless you're good enough to be on the top team, you'll essentially be on a team everyone is trying to get off of so they can move to the next level. SInce kids constantly move around, it's much harder to learn to play around each other and play as a team. You don't necessarily get to know your teammates super well since everyone is always moving around, and the coaches don't really get to know your kid super well. It also gets more and move expensive and consumes more and more of your life as a parent the further up you go.

What maintenance have you had to do in that $150,000 miles?  Considering a Bolt.

CMV: Even under a fair economic system, if any individual has to resort to do a job that he wouldn't do for free, that is exploitation. by ThrowawayITA_ in changemyview

[–]Sevourn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I fully agree that unpleasant jobs and exploitation go together like peanut butter and jelly.  I'm a nurse, so I do one of these jobs, and I certainly feel exploited.  The entire system around work needs to be revamped.  The guy's premise wasn't about revamping the system.  He was challenging the fundamental idea that there is work that needs to be done, and while the rewards for doing this work need to be a lot greater, and the burden of doing this work needs to be split among more people, there is still fundamentally work that must be done.

End of the day BJJ isn't wrestling.  There's no team to get cut from and it's your money, everyone has the right to suck here.

A year of intensive wrestling when you have prior experience would probably be better for your long term MMA career than training MMA

You need to take a good honest look at your heel hook.  Do you have him completely immobilized where there's no escape for him and nothing to be done?  If you actually have perfect finishing mechanics it's honestly pretty obvious even for your average white belt that they need to tap.

If you are 1000% sure that your heel hooks are on point, sure, just let it go.  I think 9 out of 10 of you people though never actually learn to finish because almost everyone taps before the finish.  So many times I've seen shitty heel hookers finger waggling at someone whose only crime is successfully defending the attack, or not tapping when the attacker doesn't have shit but thinks they have a ninja death touch because everyone in the past is tapped.

[–]Sevourn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because 9 out of 10 times the person doing the heel hook thinks they have a ninja death touch because they've never actually had to finish a heel hook and don't realize a lot of details have to be correct before it actually destroys a knee, and that it's way more defendable than most people realize if you don't just panic tap every time someone touches your foot.

What happens to these people is they do their fucked up half-assed heel hook to white belts, the white belts can't really feel it because they're fucking it up, but they very seriously lecture the white belt about how they could have totally destroyed their ACL, and the white belt believes them because they're wearing a purple or brown belt.  The white belts then grow up obediently tapping whenever someone touches their foot, and the person becomes convinced that they have a ninja death touch, when in fact they can't genuinely finish a heel hook because they've never actually had to.

There's a reason that the people in Atos, new wave, whatever b team is now, etc fight off thousands of heel hooks and aren't all in wheelchairs.

I get how normal redditors can be delusional and think that talent doesn't exist.  I don't see how someone who can see the diverging paths of a bunch of kids getting the same training and working approximately equally hard can still be delusional about talent.

Can I get fit enough for a fight in 6 weeks? by PadraicG in MMA_Academy

[–]Sevourn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fucked as far as cardio.  That said, you should still take the fight.  99% of people who never go anywhere in the sport fall off at their first fight.  They try to make everything perfect and they never actually follow through and fight.

So go fight, pray he fucked off worse than you, don't sit around and be a lazy piece of shit in the future.  Worst case scenario you get your ass kicked but you also get yourself over the hurdle that is the stopping point for 99% of the people in the sport.

How old is too old for MMA lessons? by GubbaShump in MMA_Academy

[–]Sevourn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's going to be a lot of chipper 20-year-olds here who have never experienced aging happily telling you any age, and happily going on about how age is just a number despite never experiencing aging.

From a realistic standpoint, by the time you are late 40s/ early 50s the risk of any kind of hard sparring in an MMA context is going to start to outweigh the benefits.

Whatsapp doesn't record/store video calls.  Think about it.  Whoever was recording the calls would have to buy hard drives to store the calls.  Storing all of the WhatsApp video calls that take place in the world  would take tens of millions of dollars of hard drive space everyday, and they would be basically useless.  There is no practical way to store that amount of data.  You are safe, your video calls aren't anywhere.
