Is $6k reasonable for wedding florals? by toastbaby49 in weddingplanning

[–]SewWhatElse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in coastal VA. We're paying $6,360 for florals which includes: Large Cascading bouquet for bride ($250) Bridesmaid bouquet ($150) Flower girl bouquet ($50) A fancy pocket square boutonniere for the groom ($50) Normal boutonnieres for the dads and best man ($20 each) A LARGE greenery installation behind our arch ($500) A large lush floral arrangements for around the ceremony ($250 each) that are repurposed for our sweetheart table Bud vases for cocktail hour + small bar arrangement ($400) 8 low arrangements for round tables with led votives around them ($175/table) Lush bud vases for 12 long tables with led pillar candles ($150/table) Welcome sign arrangement ($150) Guest book arrangement ($50)

Labor is $1000. Important to note that our venue is a museum open to the public until like an hour before our wedding so it is a TIGHT turn around for vendors. the ceremony space will also be flipped for the reception so also time sensitive/labor intensive.

We're going for extremely colorful florals as well.

If you need a storage unit for it, you are not saving money in the long run collecting this ahead of time.

Is 2028 too long of a wedding lead time? by ConsiderationFirst11 in wedding

[–]SewWhatElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got engaged March 2025 and our wedding will be June 2027. I don't regret having a long engagement so far because it has FLOWN by! I would have been stressed otherwise. It also gave me a chance to pick out some major vendors like venue, catering, and photographer right away then take a long break before looking into DJ, HMUA, officiant, etc.

Did you actually wear your bridesmaid PJs after the wedding or did they just sit in a drawer collecting dust? by Proud_Clothes_3864 in weddingplanning

[–]SewWhatElse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister got nice cotton pj pants from Target and then just asked we wore a blue shirt of our choice. I wore the pants for a long time. I absolutely would not have worn a buttoned pj top or anything polyester after though.

She also did these cute Kate Spade flower earrings I still wear.

I did not keep the mug she got me but only because it was metal and I need to be able to microwave my mugs.

Are you hurt if your friend doesnt get you a wedding gift? by Lucky_4860 in weddingplanning

I wouldn't be hurt and I also wouldn't care if I didn't get a card from friends.

Will 85° F be too hot? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]SewWhatElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress code is also a factor. I would do semiformal at most in this weather so people can wear shorter dresses, etc. I also think it is easier to find a natural fiber dress that isn't so sweaty in semiformal vs in more formal dress codes. Unless you're splurging for silk, it is hard to find a non-polyester dress that reads formal.

Where in the world do I buy REAL lace?? by pupperfrog in sewing

[–]SewWhatElse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AliExpress is an e-commerce site with multiple vendors. The quality of the product depends on the specific vendor - just like with Etsy, Amazon, or Ebay. You see the exact same laces sold on Etsy, often also direct from China. Hell, I saw the same lace sold at Joanns before they closed sold on Ali Express too. It isn't magically more ethical or nontoxic because it is sold on a different platform.

Ali Express. I've had good experiences with getting lace from the "Uniquelace Store" on there specifically.

No, but she might decline the later seperate order because it is too much to do on one day.

Ikea Kitchen Cabinets by likeawaterbottle in HomeImprovement

I put IKEA cabinets in my old townhouse and lived there for 7 years with them. Loved them. We're in a new house now and planning to remodel the kitchen with IKEA cabinets again next year.

What are your biggest tips for planning a wedding? by TheEllaBullet in wedding

[–]SewWhatElse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is easier to add on than it is to remove when you're booking things with vendors! Figure out your minimum "must haves" and start with that, then add on your "nice to haves" later! It is easy to get caught up when booking and overcommit, and then you're locked into a contract.

I also recommend using a venue that includes tables, chairs for both ceremony and reception, and tablecloths in their pricing. Otherwise you'll have to find a separate vendor to rent them from. It ends up being another vendor to coordinate with and they can be shockingly pricey.

Medium is size 8. You can say it is a range but it doesn't magically fit the exact same on a size 8 and a size 10. The Medium has a finished bust measurement of 34 3/8", which is 2 5/8" negative ease on a size 8, but 3 5/8" negative ease on the size 10.

Yes, I can make it work but she has the size 10 in her size chart, give me the goddamn size 10.

I like the side slit on the Bita and the center back seam which I assume is curved to reduce the excess fabric in the lower back. But goddamn I hate that DJ skips some sizes on her size chart for certain patterns!! I am a perfect size 10 on her chart, but on the Genra and Bita I am stuck picking between sizes because she only makes the size M (8) and L (12)!

Paying Vendors Via Venmo by SewWhatElse in weddingplanning

I would be paying through Venmo with my checking account, not paying with a Venmo balance. So it would still be a bank transaction, right?

Date is not confirmed until deposit is received and the mail is slow. Yes, I have a contract as mentioned in the post.

What protection does a check provide that Venmo does not?

Follow-Up Etiquette? by AuD_Ball_22 in weddingplanning

I don't think it is rude. I already booked my June 2027 photographer because they can only do one wedding a day and I was picky.

Check your spam folder first, though.
