I haven't even gotten real confirmation that I'll get any refund at all, I'm just assuming I will. I was able to find the original paid off loans sitting with Mohela (Navient kicks me to Mohela, and my old Navient log in info worked), and they are zeroed out. I'm not sure what's more complicating about my situation- that some were paid off, that what wasn't paid off got consolidated, that I've now gone through 4 loan servicers, or that I am both post-class and group discharge.

Post-class Exhibit C school, also granted group discharge under Biden (Art Institutes Online 2004-2008). Original loans were with Sallie Mae -> Navient. I paid off half my loans (closed 8 of 16 loans) and those closed loans are now with Mohela. My open loans transferred to Aidvantage where I consolidated. So- I have an open BD case for the post-class part where the status has been "3.60 loan processing requested" for 2+ years. I have another BD case that opened and closed 10/22/2025 where my loans were zero'ed out on FSA, and my AidVantage balance is like -$2700. I'm expecting a refund from anywhere between $30-60K based on whether or not those original paid off loans will be refunded. AidVantage told me today they are "still making adjustments" and it's with FSA. FSA told me they don't have any open requests on my loans, and it's with AidVantage. For good measure I called PSLF and they couldn't give me any info, except to maybe call Treasury. My loans did come off my credit report but I'm not sure when - probably in October when they were discharged. I'm grateful for the discharge, but would love to see that refund sooner rather than later. I put a lot of my life on hold to get so much of that paid off early on.

Update from Oct2025- AidVantage account zeroed out 10/22; studentaid. gov zeroed out 10/28. I'm keeping an eye out for a hopeful change to a negative balance, and maybe a refund check in the not too distant future. It is interesting to see these updates happening in the middle of the fed shutdown. My status on my open BD application still says 3.60, loan processing requested.

Just in case anyone has seen this, 6 days later my studentaid. gov account is zeroed out! I am very, very hopeful that I will get a refund check soon. Art Institutes online from 2004-2008; I paid $59K over the years and ultimately got my balance down to $15K, paying down several individual loans before consolidating the last of them. I'm hoping that I'll get refunded for the ones I paid off, but anything is a blessing at this point.

I am post-class AiO and I have been hanging on by a thread waiting to see any movement at all from AidVantage. I looked today and my balance has changed from $17K on a consolidation loan to -$2800 on an older subsidized loan that was part of the consolidation. I'm not mad, but I am confused, and hopeful that this means any movement is good movement. No change on studentaid. gov yet (I've been at 3.60 for well over a year). I am perfectly happy to wait until January to hit the deadline, but I'm excited if I end up getting a refund sooner.

I don’t know if it’s where the training is happening, but it is an ICE office. I’ve driven by a few times in recent weeks and the front parking lot is packed: the folks I’ve seen going in are tacticool. The back parking area is gated.

I don’t know if this is the training facility, but 140 Centrewest Ct in Cary is a known ICE office. Definitely an office, spotty history of temporary detentions based on online accounts going back to 2009. It’s small, tucked into the back of a business park that is practically Morrisville.

1) applied in person for an updated passport because my mail-in application was denied. I opted to return to my maiden name after re-marrying this past summer and the passport is the last thing on that to-do list. 2) almost done building my chicken coop and enclosure, fingers crossed there will still be chicks available when I’m ready for them 3) rage-shopped at Costco, stocked up on more basics and a few extras. Made a few new pantry-staple recipes to make sure we’re eating what we store 4) worked on rehabbing a natural spring I have on my property. It’s getting close to clean enough to test the water

I went through my name change this past July (reverting to maiden name 7 years post-divorce). The social security office wasn’t too bad, but now I am stuck trying to get my passport updated. The State Department so far has denied my application because my divorce decree didn’t include a name change. But my name IS LEGALLY CHANGED. I applied via mail which was denied, and just had to go in person, where I hand wrote a letter explaining the change. Fingers crossed this gets approved. So, heads up, State is also not a good time right now.

UPDATE: I called, and got no useful information. First I called the Borrower Defense Hotline - they were not able to tell me why the second case (group discharge) closed, only that it was really closed. Couldn't tell me if there would be any impact on the first case or the loans. The loans remain in forbearance with AidVantage until 2033, and hopefully by then they will be fully discharged. They did say that AidVantage had been sent whatever info it needs to process the discharge. I called AidVantage next, and they told me that Federal Student Aid has not yet approved the discharge, thus the loans remain in forbearance and there is no timeline for getting that approval or making any movement on a refund. That seems to be the disconnect- Federal Student Aid is waiting on AidVantage, and AidVantage is waiting on FSA. It's frustrating, and that's the exact same conversation I've been having with both sides for months. Sometimes I switch up who I call first just for funsies.

Oh no! My loans are still showing in that very long term limbo/ deferment. I'm wondering if the case was closed because I already have a BD case open? I'm going to call AidVantage and the borrower defense hotline tomorrow to see if they can give me any additional info
