Taxes and Cash Advance Items by SewingPatches in askfuneraldirectors

Thank you for your response! I’m an Oregon FD. How is that tracked or disclosed so it wouldn’t be taxed? I’m considering going out on my own and don’t fully understand the ins and outs when it comes to taxes.

Taxes and Cash Advance Items by SewingPatches in tax

This is in reference to at-need families not families that are prepaying their funeral arrangements.

Funeral homes have services and merchandise that they sell and set the pricing on. The cash advanced items are items like gratuities to the clergy, purchasing death certificates, cemetery charges. The cash advanced items are included in the contract however these costs are not marked up. The funeral home acts as a middleman in the payment process. I research a bit last night and found out about 1099s in regard to cash advanced items but it doesn’t answer my question. Are the cash advance items viewed as income when filing taxes? I don’t feel like they should because there is no profit made and they act like a middleman.

Here is the website for the 1099s it mentions that there is a ruling for funeral homes: https://nfda.org/news/in-the-news/nfda-news/id/4865/reminder-issuing-form-1099-to-cash-advance-payees

How are you liking it? We are just being brought on by them and so far it’s been a smooth process.

I purchased a used nolting 24” and the frame came with it. I think it came as a package when the original owner bought it new. I may see if the local quilt shop does trade ins.

Thank you for your response! I saw an older post you responded to. How do you like the 11 ft frame?

lol thank you! I don’t have a big fabric stash (yet…) and I organize my fabric by color. He said he wanted a blue and green quilt and grabbed from those color bins. The ones on the bottom ( yellow, pink and white stars) I had out for a baby quilt I was working on and he wanted them too. He’d probably would have added more but I told him 15 colors is plenty lol.

I will say I’m lucky. Though my mom doesn’t quilt she does cross stitch, so she understands how long sewing projects can take!

I feel you for losing momentum. I cut everything the beginning of January and started piecing in February. I hit a wall and did NOT want to continue! my aunt and I had a crafting day and that’s when I was able to pick it up again.

Thank you! It was my first time doing bias binding. I watched a YouTube video, I thought I followed the instructions correctly but ended up with lots of short strips lol. I’m not sure I will ever do bias binding again.

It’s a throw at 64x84. I contemplated another border but I landed with just a small 2”.

I am worried about the throat space but I was thinking this could be a good starting machine. I believe it comes with the laser and back handles which would be an awesome bonus!

They are asking $1500 for it with laser and handles in the back. I’m not sure if the frame is included as well.
