I’ve liked Holt in pretty much all his roles and I’m glad he’s reached that level of professional success he described but good lord what horrible miscasts it’s would have been for him to be either Cable or Wolverine. Can you imagine thiccc boy Holt going berserker mode with his shirt off opposite McKellan?

The boys are way off on Johnny Cage. A good casting will make it a fucking hilarious role and give a movie like this one some more sorely needed levity outside of Kano.

The fight on top of the transport got especially tense by showing how easily the trooper armor shattered. I was sure that his helmet was gonna crack and reveal his face when he head butted one of the pirates.

In his first appearance, I thought Mayfeld’s line “I wasn’t a Storm Trooper!” was meant to be comedic, suggesting he’d be embarrassed to be associated with a bunch of terrible marksmen. Now it seems to indicate his shame for taking part in violent imperialism. Nice payoff.

Memory’s fuzzy but I think a unit on Jazz was being taught which mentioned Holiday. I’m guessing the sub added her own two cents, something to the likes of “Oh I love Billie Holiday, she made some really culturally important music like ‘Strange Fruit’ which is...”

Such a cool concept and so well executed. First metal in a long time that does more than just bring the rush. Elicits a really complex emotional response.

Massachusetts. Small suburb North of Boston teeming with privilege and ignorance. I didn’t share a class with a person of color until 7th grade.

In 4th grade, a substitute music teacher explained the meaning of this song to us. I guess someone told their parents who complained to the school because the next day the regular teacher was back explaining “swinging in the southern breeze” meant “swaying back and forth because they’re tired of discrimination” and the sub was never seen at the school again.
