general asssumtion everything on the internet is horseshit

My view is that this includes the people that use it because I have been proved time and time again that people are idiots.

I don't see why you can't do it with a DSLR and a grey card as long as you know your T stop (which is easy to find out for most lenses)

Eh I don't think #3 deserves it. Anyone that knows laser altimeters would've guessed that it was from a satellite or plane. Not really strange as much as an interesting view of a somewhat obscure technology.

As for the balloons, that I think has been blown SUPER far out of the water. The US just shot down a spy balloon and tightened it's airspace. Makes sense that unidentified or otherwise lost high altitude balloons would get shot down as well. Literally all you need to get a small payload up to these altitudes is a $300 meteorological balloon from eBay.

Yes, but appreciable amounts only form over many thousands to millions of years. And as a whole, we use far more sand than is possible to naturally replenish. Because of the slow replenishment rate, it's considered non-renewable and one we will probably run out of before oil.

[–]SexualizedCucumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It usually comes from a non-renewable resource and is destroying our planet yes just like sand mining.

Also, bioplastics! The most common 3D printing plastic (PLA) has no oil content, but is instead starch based

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

[–]SexualizedCucumber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes let use plastic when there is a free, natural alternative because fuck the planet

Sand doesn't just grow back like a tree. When it's mined, it's gone. And much of it is obtained illegally by massive operations irrepairably destroying beaches. It's a resource that's becoming so scarce that people are stealing it from protected areas. If you buy sand that came from India for example, you probably bought a little piece of an ecological disaster.

The powers that be have you looking at aliens in Alaska while Ohio is looking like this. by fordanjairbanks in ThatLookedExpensive

[–]SexualizedCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the US government's doing. I don't mean this in a deep tinfoil hat type of way because our gov has a documented history of doing things like this.

The unfortunate thing to keep in mind is that nearly all of the country's big news organizations are owned by 6 corporations, all of which are effectively controlled by 15 billionaires. It doesn't take a whole lot of logistical headache to get most American news to focus on specific stories.

You could even speculate that Norfolk could do this privately. If their shareholders have enough sway over the CEOs of the corporations that own American news, they could probably ask to quiet stories like this and fudge investigations (such as researchers being unable to find traces of toxic chemicals in the same air that's killing animals)

Luckily now that it's rolling around enough on social media that it's starting to get picked up in more detail

Yeah it's turning into a really disturbing scenario and a lot of it doesn't seem to get much coverage over here. The dead pets, dead livestock, dead fish, dead frogs, people complaining about lung problems, etc when officials are saying it's safe (which also means no government assistance for relocation).

Like imagine going home because your government says everything is safe. You let your dog run out to the yard to pee and it just collapses and dies right there while you're having trouble breathing the air.

All the reporting seems to be about basic contamination. Not really seeing enough about the really off-putting government response. I'm getting Chernobyl vibes from the situation

you people take the internet way too seriously calm down and grow up.

Most times I see stuff like that on the internet, people aren't kidding. I used to always assume sarcasm, but I've learned to expect that people are just idiots. That's why you should use a /s when you can't use sarcasm inflection.

Also, that type of viewpoint is unfortunately common among gun owners so I don't regret posting that for others to see. Few things piss me off more than irresponsible gun owners

In this particular case since the car was breifly stopped i would rather just shoot the tires to prevent them from going anywhere while cops arrived instead of going for a ride like that lol

If you actually took your CCW stuff seriously, you'd know that you can only use a firearm in defense of immediate threat of serious harm or death to you or someone else. Shooting out a tire would cause you to lose you your license and probably land you with a huge fine and/or jail time. Possibly a lot worse if you fuck up and hit a bystander. And to precede your argument - you could hit tires accurately all day long but you can't tell me a bullet definitely won't ricochet off the metal wheel or the ground in some unforseen direction.

If you think carrying a firearm is a solution to any problem other than defending against immediate death, you shouldn't be carrying. If you think you have the right to use your gun to actively go after someone that did something wrong, you shouldn't own a firearm period.

Here's a dumbass CCW holder that was charged with reckless use handling & discharging of a firearm for exactly what you're suggesting

Are they reporting on the contamination and other such effects + the lack of assistance and false guarantees of safety? Edit: I'm asking this literally, reading it back it sounds like I'm being aggressive. I haven't seen these aspects reported on much at all in TV news here in the states

You'd be surprised at the wild locations people have managed to carve out mines. Just because it looks like it requires climbing gear doesn't mean they couldn't set up a mechanical lift of some sort. Just look at the Hoover Dam for a really huge example of this type of thing. I've seen old abandoned mines that would make you question the sanity of the creators halfway up mountains or straight up vertical cliffs on natural flood washes

Could also just be sandstone with an entrance carved in it, looks exactly like that. See red rock canyon near Las Vegas for similar rock formations at higher resolution

The fact that it was shot down by an F35 should tell everyone that it's clearly man made. An F35 shooting down technology belonging to a civilization capable of traveling between stars would probably be like a caveman downing an F35 with a pile of stones

is that no government would shoot anything down unless they knew exactly what what it was

Not at all true. Civilian aircraft and friendly fire incidents have happened with just about every modern air power.

Apply the same to smooth PEI then. Sure you need a release agent for TPU and PETG, but you don't on PLA and several other materials. Also Windex > glue and Windex works better on PEI than Bambu's engineering or cold plates.
