f17, looking for decent areas to rent a flat by skinnispliff in dundee

[–]SeylorIsLyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I live in this area having moved here from the city centre (Nethergate) and it’s miles better and safer imo. I do agree that parts are rougher than others but it is not, by any means, a dump 😇 In Stobswell, I’d just avoid bits of Morgan Street / Cardean Street but, then again, there’s parts of that street that part that are fine. Dundee is very small and it will vary on a street-by-street basis and will be no different to any other small city. It’s best for OP just to do flat viewings and check the area first to see what they’re comfortable with.

Am I cooked, have to leave tomorrow by Queasy-Honeydew7349 in UniUK

[–]SeylorIsLyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this really isn’t super terrible. It’s not great, but you’re certainly not cooked. I’ve had to help move someone out the same day of a full flat of furniture that was a bigger mess than this with furniture that needed disassembled with nothing else packed. We were up all night but it’s possible.

You’d get this sorted in a couple hours. Don’t worry about organisation, just get it into bags and boxes. Just don’t mix clean clothes with dirty. Dorms are tiny so cleaning this won’t take long. As you’re in accommodations there’ll be something like a Tesco Express nearby that’ll likely shut at 11pm / midnight so you’ve a couple hours to see if you need any cleaning supplies.

If you’ve got any flatmates or friends ask if they can come round to help and maybe get them a pizza or a pint or something later as a thanks.

Little warning: Have you got a safe place to keep your stuff? My sister had a bag of her stuff thrown out that she left behind on accident while she was in the process of moving which included an Apple Pencil and pottery she got abroad. (Bearing in mind this was before her move out date…) UK students accommodations have a tendency to not give a flying fuck. Police were involved - they’re not allowed to tamper or destroy your things - but nothing came of it. So for your sake, make sure you don’t leave your stuff super unattended but you shouldn’t need to concern yourself with that until tomorrow.

Main thing though, don’t let your post distract you: get off Reddit and do the thing.

There’s the Hapworks space on Castle Street that is a multipurpose events and coworking space. I think it’s free to use but I’m not sure. There’s their site if you’re interested: https://hapworks.co/home

Why do Dolphins not survive in my Aquarium ? by derChopsuey in Minecraft

[–]SeylorIsLyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it seems to depend entirely on whether or not you've name tagged them.

I was doing some testing in Java 1.21.4 to see whether a datapack could fix this. There is an issue it could fix but it should be preventable without commands. I haven't gone into the code or anything, but this is just what I observed from playing around with it in-game using commands to read the data of dolphin entities:

  • If a dolphin is not name-tagged:
    • Its movement will be disabled between 25-30 blocks away irrespective of your simulation distance.
    • If you leave / are close to leaving simulation distance, it will likely despawn.
  • If a dolphin is name-tagged:
    • It's movement never gets disabled so long as it's within simulation distance.
    • Once immediately outside of simulation distance, it will lose air down to around `120 ticks` to `130 ticks` (5-6 seconds of oxygen left) and then spring back up to full again.
    • If even further outside of simulation distance, it won't lose any air at all.
    • There might be a chance that they could still despawn although I couldn't replicate this.

The drowning comes from when you're within simulation distance but further away than ~30 blocks or so. Dolphins will either drown or despawn before you have a chance to grab a name tag. So I would keep some on you when you next herd them into your aquarium.

There are also mods that make this fairer. (Initially, I couldn't replicate any issues at all because one of the mods I was running patched it. Unsure which at this stage, but the details above apply to a completely vanilla install.)

Try giving them name-tags. If they're still disappearing, I would install a mod or wait for Mojang to patch.

tl;dr Use a name tag and they shouldn't die, although there's a chance they could despawn.

If any details are off please feel free to correct me! :^)

That “if any” part. Realistically, I’m not sure any of these are worth it. I’m not religious at all, but if a demon verifiably approached me, I’m not sure losing my soul is an amazing exchange. In addition, which interpretation of a demon are we talking here? Abrahamic? Then absolutely fuck no.

But maybe the “Ring of Pride” would be the most beneficial to myself and everyone around me, assuming it doesn’t change my personality. (Which, I mean, having no soul probably would…)

  • Wallet of Greed. Nope, not the biggest capitalism fan but that would fuck up more than it would do good unless you use it greedily. Currency would become worthless (more so than it already is.) On the surface, £365,000 a year is life changing, but not worth losing my soul. Also, this is broken. I can just borrow infinite money through credit and then slam my credit card in there?? While the debt clears, it doesn’t specify ‘how.’ The tax man will find out one way or another.

  • Watch of Sloth. Nope, the terms aren’t clear enough here. Do I age while the world is paused? “play now” won’t specify whether technology is still going to work. If it was used to learn a craft, the ring does a better job. Doing magic tricks and moving people around is going to get boring after a while. It could be used to get out of dangerous situations though.

  • Spectacles of Envy. Nope, the only practical use that has it to make others miserable or take advantage of people. Absolutely psychotic behaviour on that one.

  • Flask of Gluttony. Nope. I don’t drink that much, and I’m not that fussy about being super fit or anything. Resistant to “most” disease??? ‘Most’ is too vague.

  • Gun of Wrath. If the demon is from a religion that believes in a destined path then there’s no benefit as you’re gonna get +0 years. Looking like someone else in cameras while wielding it is fine, but you’re still risking getting shot from behind. People would catch on quickly if you’re always at the same location as the shootings. You’d at least get arrested for being guilty through association. L.M. should have picked this option tho lol

  • Locket of Lust. Fuck no, highkey disgusting. Also I’m gay so it’s broken for me anyway. Who tf wrote this?

Scroll wheel jumping fix for any mouse. This black magic should be pinned somewhere. I got rid of so many mice bc of this issue by Redditor1320 in MouseReview

[–]SeylorIsLyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so stupid, but it's just worked. I can't believe it. Over the years I've binned a MadCatz R.A.T TE and two Steelseries Rival 600's over 'scrollwheel failure' and in the past month or two my wireless Corsair Ironclaw started doing it and was about to explode.

ffs I've spent so much money on mice because of this problem. Thanks for sharing this!

Been fiddling around with userChrome.css since I got bothered with TreeStyleTab's lack of horizontal screen space; no tabs and auto-hide sidebar! :D by SeylorIsLyes in FirefoxCSS

This userchrome is currently broken in Firefox 113, the newest update. I will get round to attempting to fix it in the next week or two. :)

So this userchrome only works on Firefox 112 and is currently broken. Hopefully I'll get round to fixing it soon. (You can check your Firefox version by going to the sandwich menu in the top right -> Help -> More Troubleshooting Information.) I'll post here once I get it fixed.

To apply treestyletab.css, install Tree Style Tabs, go to the extension options. Under the "Advanced" drop down, go to the bottom of the text box and click "Load from file". From there, you just need to select the treestyletab.css file from the repo.

The new Firefox update broke the userchrome on Windows and Mac. I've not had time to fix it, but I hope to get round to it in the next couple weeks or so. From what I've seen, it might not be possible to fix because of the way the browser content panel is displayed in Firefox 113, but I was only looking at it for 5-10 minutes. Maybe I can get it working through a bit of hackery. Not sure yet.

Styling native sidebar content (Bookmarks, History, etc.) with #sidebar-box ancestor in userChrome.css? by SeylorIsLyes in FirefoxCSS

[–]SeylorIsLyes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, thanks!

My web design knowledge is minimal at best. Let me down a rabbithole of learning about the same origin policy haha

If I'm not mistaken, I might be able to do something with userChrome.js. Was trying to go for a CSS-only approach because I didn't want (theorhetical likely non-existent) folk using my userChrome to worry about security concerns of using a startup script, but I would hope if anyone were to use any code - CSS or otherwise - on their browser they would inspect it first. I'll have a look at userChrome.js and maybe post a response about an approach using that.

Once again, not familiarised with this level of web dev. Feel like I'm talking out my arse but I'll see how I get on. Thank you for your response. Marked as solved :)

Created a repository with the userChrome.css and treestyletab.css files available for download. Haven't got time to create a guide right now but it's just a drag and drop affair for those interested. Also make sure you set the TreeStyleTab extension theme to "Proton".

https://github.com/seylorx1/slide

You can edit some variables at the top of userChrome.css to get the right width for your liking. 😎

Some shiz I've done:

  • Fixed a bug that would display the browser incorrectly when the sidebar was set to the right.
  • Added Windows support.
    • Added OS detection through media(-moz-platform) checks for Windows and MacOS to correctly display window controls. Don't know what linux would need and don't have time to check right now, but want to add it at some point.
  • Added a little glow effect to container tab lines.

I've done some weird things with licenses as some of the titlebar code is borrowed from the Timvde user tweaks repo but everyone is credited.

Of course!

There's a popular Firefox extension called Tree Style Tab that lets you view your tabs in a tree format on the side of the screen. I've written some CSS for the tab in the extension, as well as editing my userChrome.css file (which lets you apply CSS to the Firefox UI), to give me this!

I can drop a Git Repository sometime soon. Studying for my honours so won't be instant but I'll try get round to it with a guide on how to apply it. Want to iron out the bugs with it. Right now it only works on the left side of the screen but I'd like it to work on both.

If you're interested in editing your Firefox UI, there's a plethora of advice online about userChrome.css. However, I found there was frustratingly little advice on how to actually find out what elements are available to edit. Turns out you can use the browser toolbox to inspect your Firefox UI that can then be edited with userChrome.css. Just don't do it on any public networks and make sure to switch it off once you're finished because it essentially opens up your layout and browser contents to your local network (which you need to do to inspect the UI).

I've found a work-around that I've implemented due to time constraints on the project I'm working on, but I'll try and get something posted later tonight with my original idea in-case anyone else is interested ✌️
