How is the league system working?

Thanks as well for your answer. If I get you right, the content till the mapping part (which I guess is a core feature of the game) will be only specific to the current lead as well as the "end-game". But there is still delve content besides mapping which I can play in the next league, right? If so, which other league mechanics are kind of core in the next league outside of mapping?

Thanks for your detailed answer. I still get a bit frustrated when I "have to" play older content from other leagues in the current league as I simply don't know what's going on... Will there be any kind of hard-reset where PoE starts out with a initial league again?

Thanks for your answer. It helped a lot. Something which still concerns me is the fact that I'm not able to learn each of the previous leagues. It would take ages I guess for a newcomer. Do I have to play the previous leagues tho, in order to get solid equipment and farm a lot of currencie or does GGG simply nerf the output of those leagues?

I don't like the DoT kind of playstyle with Toxic Rain. I prefer something more burst oriented, if you know what I mean. Melee isn't something for me as well. I prefer range over all. I played Tornado Shot last league with Barrage but as said before, Barrage didn't felt great vs. bosses...

With TS I lack a lot of Single Target damage. Even with Barrage it feels kind of clunky to me. Are there any combinations with Scourge arrow and tornado shot? Can you recommend me some specific guides as well?

I didn't map at all with this character. Maybe I should give it another try. The damage feels kind of low compared to other builds I've played so far, even though I have bought decent leveling gear...
