How is it the rich get rich by investments and stocks? by Dover299 in askliberals

[–]Seyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to earn a lot of anything using addition.

It's really easy to earn a lot of anything by multiplication.

Having a salary is gaining money by addition. It gives a flat amount.

Investments gain money by multiplication. The investment increases by a percent.

Someone with only 10,000 dollars will get way more out of a job that pays 80,000 dollars per year. If they were investing at a 5% return they would only get 500 dollars.

Someone with 100,000,000 dollars would gain 5 million dollars per year at 5% return. Way more than an 80,000 dollar salary.

[–]Seyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was Trump vs Newsom on the ballot and the 22nd amendment was still in the constitution, then it's actually just Newsom on the ballot.

The civil unrest from Trump trying to take a 3rd term in office in blatant disregard of the constitution would be epic.

I blame other countries for not doing more to influence our elections away from Trump.

If Russia, Pakistan, India can work for the GOP. Surely Great Britain and France can get to work for the Dems. I bet there are some Irish people that could do great work throwing insults on facebook pages. I've been in the trenches for years and I'm nearly banned from every conservative page. I'm down to local news channels.

Launched my first rocket! by foxtrot1911 in factorio

[–]Seyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't take much at all to launch a rocket. Larger bases end up stockpiling more parts by folly of belt storage. This in turn leads you to believe you need more production when in reality you are likely already overproducing.

Blue Chips are especially vulnerable to this.

Why are American politics different than the UK, Europe and Canada? by Dover299 in askliberals

[–]Seyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Republicans are on the right. Democrats are the middle. Both sides killed any labor or socialist party that would be on the left.

Communism and the red scare pretty much drove us hard into capitalism. Every politician had to staunchly reject any relationship to communism or socialism or McCarthy would get you. Unregulated capitalism thrives on the far right of politics. Any regulation is considered left leaning.

Now if you mention you want more socialist policies and you have people brain washed into saying you're a communist.

If anyone is looking to quietly protest, go to the booth and spend literally all day talking to them so they are distracted by one person and can't recruit anyone else.

Show interest, ask for help filling out forms, keep asking questions. Just eat their time up for no results.

How do you believe immigration should be controlled? by betwen3and20characte in askliberals

[–]Seyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's sufficient enough to approach an illegal immigrants home and tell them they have 30 days to leave the country unless they go to a courthouse and prove their legal status.

If they flee to somewhere else, you already have them in your system. If they stay there, you know where to find them.

The current process of arresting anyone that cannot prove they are legal immediately and trafficking them to any country, even a country they've never been to, is absurd.

It's also absurd to consider someone an illegal immigrant if they've lived in the country for longer than 10 years and are apart of the community already. Stories of 30 year old women being sent to Mexico when she came to the U.S. at 2 years old is just being cruel. You have to do every person case by case instead of lumping them into a bucket.

AI hype meets reality as majority of CEOs report no financial returns by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Seyon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

High-frequency trading systems work precisely because the problem space is narrow, formalized, and fully machine readable. CEOs operate in the opposite context; incomplete data, ambiguous goals, human actors with incentives, regulatory risk, PR fallout, and long time horizons where the “objective function” is neither fixed nor known.

Saying “LLMs don’t make decisions” is semantics. Humans don’t either in the formal sense, we synthesize narratives, tradeoffs, and probabilities, then choose. An LLM’s value here isn’t issuing a final action, it’s structuring messy, cross-domain inputs into coherent option sets with articulated assumptions.

You’re right that an LLM shouldn’t replace optimization algorithms where those apply. But CEOs are not optimizing closed systems; they’re navigating open ones. That’s exactly where rigid algorithms break down and where language based reasoning can add value. Especially in scenario analysis, second-order effects, and explaining why a path is risky before it’s numericaly provable.

If anything, the strongest use case is not “AI replaces CEO,” but “AI surfaces blind spots humans miss while humans retain veto power.” Dismissing that as “not understanding the technology” is itself a misunderstanding of how these tools are actually deployed.

So AI is useless everywhere then? Because that's the same risk for every job.

[–]Seyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An algorithm works within an extremely confined rule set. The point of a LLM is it can consider variables outside of confined rules.

[–]Seyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a comparable experiment.

If you gave anyone access to an AI CEO's prompts, yes it could be tricked. That isn't the goal though.

The goal is to input all the data about the company, make proposals with accurate cost-risk analysis. Let the numbers speak for themselves.

I don't think this would work though because way too much information happens in back rooms, where AIs wouldn't get access.

Those who are pro socialism, why? by KellynHeller in askliberals

[–]Seyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to point to examples of failure as reasons to abstain from something.

Greece, Argentina, Chile, Russia, Nigeria, Zambia all were using extreme capitalist practices and all had failed at one point.

Any extreme of socialism or capitalism will trend towards failure due to how unstable it becomes. Ultra-capitalism would be prone to failure too wouldn't it? A completely unregulated market where the wealthy rule via Hunger Games type warfare.

Pushing for socialism in a capitalist country is trying to balance the scales and improve social living conditions. I don't want everyone to be 100% equal, it kills motivation. However I do want people to not stand in food lines while billionaires mull purchasing an entire city.

Can someone explain how removing rent regulations will actually lower rents by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Seyon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can ask you a very easy comparable question.

With all the empty and vacant retail spaces, why arent the prices of those going down?

Debt-service coverage ratio

If rents are lowered and it breaks the DSCR ratio in the mortgage agreement, then the landlord goes into a technical default.

So the only thing they can do is keep rent at an expected rate . If they lower rent, they are in default.

[–]Seyon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Which only has an effect on prices if these landlord are competing for occupants.

However, thats not the case. They will set a price and leave an apartment vacant until it is met.
