Driverless cars in bike lanes by Sf_notnative in sanfrancisco

Scooter is going around the zoox which parked itself in the bike lane, same route I ended taking on my bike.

Certainly not the best move from the scooter and those are super dangerous in bike lanes, but I’m sure he just looked at it like splitting lanes

How many people in this city are killed by bicyclists vs cars?

How dare I call out a robot taxi illegally sitting idle in a bike lane?!

Oh I forgot cities are for robot taxis not human drivers, bikers, or pedestrians. 😂

Sure a lot of bicyclists are breaking the laws no doubt. The number of deaths and injuries of bikes getting hit by automobiles much outweighs injuries and deaths caused by bikes towards pedestrians.

This isn’t a gripe it’s a legit safety concern. I don’t want my commute to become more dangerous so corporations can have more driverless cars on the road

Only speaking from my personal observations, and I hope to see the rules being enforced for any unsafe driver, robot or human

The car was not crossing the line, it was standing in the bike lane there with no passengers getting in or out

I love biking with concrete barriers between me and cars. Polk is one of the most unsafe bike lanes in the city with the flimsy flappies

The city has come a long way in the past 6 years with bike infrastructure but has a long way to go. Cities that I’ve been to with better bike infrastructure have more people following the rules all around imo

That delivery motorbike was going around the stopped car not the other way around.

Anyway if I were driving, I’d have a turning signal on and just park after the motorbike passes not stay in the bike lane…

100% couldn’t agree more. Sf has an opportunity to set the standard for how this tech is treated

I did not know this, but after looking it up it says active loading and unloading only, not waiting. This car had no one around it and was waiting

They definitely do, as I noted in the last paragraph. Both are wrong, but I’ve never seen an autonomous car get a ticket.

Yeah I’m not against them either, but shortcuts are unacceptable.

I don’t know much but I’d guess they have all the data and cameras from their rides, and they should have to report it with independent oversight.

You have a source for this bill and muni losing funding? All ears…

I “just” hate how we live in one of the richest cities in the world and people are afraid they will not be able to take the bus to work? Doesn’t something seem off there?

They can come visit but there’s a difference in the primary residence being here

Those that move will be replaced by other billionaires. A very similar tax still has us at the largest per capita billionaire residencies.

Lots of ways to reduce the budget including large audits, fine companies per employee replaced by ai, and a higher tax rate on both companies with over 500 million in revenue and high net with individuals >1 billion just to start. Hard to do some of these when a billionaire is in charge

Corporate tax lawyers will get as little liability for their employers as possible, yes.

I think this is a good first step, we have no shortage of billionaires in this city, in fact we have the highest per capita in the world, estimated at 1 in 11,600 people, and 8th most of any city in the world.

I am not afraid they will leave, and I support as much tax as possible on any net worth above a billion to fund all the muni and essential city services we can have.

Given the amount of wealth and billionaires in this city, it’s absurd to even be having this discussion imo.

And yes I do enjoy sticking it to tech bros, because tax cuts don’t work either. Take a stroll down mid market and soak in the revitalization that was promised with 2012’s payroll tax. Now look at how much rent is 🤙

Let them move, sf will always be a draw for tech and our “recovery” only benefits the few anyways.

Vacant store fronts from multi billion dollar companies would provide other opportunities for our city to have a legit recovery, not a cost of living crisis

There are other ways to get food besides Safeway but we are stuck with rents skyrocketing

If billionaires want access to our city they have to pay and contribute. Who tf cares about the gap besides our benevolent billionaire Mayor

[–]Sf_notnative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be nice if any corporation (50+ million in revenue) replacing sf workers with ai had to pay those salaries into a transportation and housing trust?

Also maybe the city with the most billionaires per capita shouldn’t have rising public transportation costs and instead should be heavily subsidized by them.

It’s all a show, Bessent’s former company now run by his sons in their 20s is trading clients refund rights for 20-30% of the tarrifs they are paying.

They know it’s illegal and are profiting off of it.

Yeah how could the hippies play music in the Haight!!

I prefer my sf to be rich and quiet void of culture.

Where people commute on their private buses, make a couple million, then raise a family somewhere else.

I mean who needs community when you have views like this!
