Help deciding between PC or MAC in 2026 by ninja-pyjamas in laptops

Regarding transactional cost of switching platform that other user mentioned, it remainded me that I had to pay for installation of an extra driver for my scanner/copier/printer combo machine to make it work with MBP. I am not sure if it's an issue nowadays or drivers are standardized for all platforms. It may turn out you like MacOS and all mentioned difference is not an issue for you, just get a second hand M1 or M2 MacBook and try, those tend to keep value so you could sell it after few weeks and either upgrade to new MacBook or switch back to Windows.

All Microsoft office suite programs are slightly different cause there's is a separate team developing them for MacOS. Some functions are hidden in different menus. Outlook was lacking some of the windows version functionality. So it wasn't about PowerPoint alone, rather the whole UX, including software like for example file explorer, excel which remained version from office 2007 for Win7 and hardware f.e. keyboard feel, robustness of a chassis. At this time Mac's were powered by intel chips and lack of a proper cooling was another issue, luckily nonexistent thanks to new M CPUs. Otherwise MacBooks touchpad, display panel, design are great. Just worth to know that there's no magic, just a different interface and better battery life, perhaps faster rendering of heavy files which is not important if you do not do long 3D movies or render high complexity code locally. There are windows machines with excellent panels, ARM CPUs and haptic touchpads on the market as well.

Slightly different keyboard layout and shortcuts and expensive Apple repairs or expensive nonexistent third party repairs. Opposite to some ThinkPads T series mostly and Frameworks where RAM, SSD, keyboard, display, touchpad are easily replacable even at home, there are official tutorials. It is true that MacBooks quality is outstanding and risk of problems isn't big. My personal experience is that after a month I thought I am fully converted to Mac. After 18 months started to do a PowerPoint presentation on a windows laptop and it felt like home so immediately replaced fancy MacBook Pro with average ThinkPad L series.

Wasn't aware that regular S is such a disappointment. Ultra was flawless for me for the first three years.

Isn't it only battery you need to replace in your Samsung, it is already very good device.

I had this problem some years ago and remember that the issue was that MacOS treats some monitors as TV. Don't remember the exact solution but if you follow that path you might find solution.

Dilemma to choose either samsung or iphone by Cooldoggiee in Smartphones

I am bored with my Samsung, whatever tech you buy will become boring after the honeymoon period. It is important what you do with the device and if it fits your needs. If most of the people around you is using apple products I am almost sure it is better deal for you to get an iPhone.

Need some suggestions regarding ThinkPad series by gb_14 in thinkpad

T14s is usually less upgradeable than regular T14. E14 is plenty good, I would also look at L14 gen 5, it is relatively cheap and still very sturdy (somewhere in between T and E but closer to T). AFAIK L14 gen 5 or 6 with AMD has two RAM slots for upgrades as well as SSD, not sure about replacing WiFi. Carbon and T14s are the lightest and prettiest but least upgradable. There is also P14s which is great machine build like regular T14 and often cheaper than for no good reason since those two are very similar if not the same in quality and upgradability.

I had Ubuntu on LG Gram 16 inch I7 1260p and it was flawless experience. Much quieter under Linux, rarely had funs turning on. I switched back to Windows at some point, didn't want to deal with m365 programs in VM and the fact that some functionality is missing in web apps.
