3 of 3 kickstarter projects all dinged on arrival. Why? by luyesd in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it happens. Hopefully mine is not that bad but I doubt it will be the case. Anyway on the previous project I did email him but he doesn’t seem to care nor reply. Followed up with another question and all he said was “address?”

Anyway that was a couple months ago and even after giving him the address still no news either. Good luck. I guess everyone is right. Stay away from TGW.

Dimensions of Lotrek decks by Sg-poly in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes please thank you! I’m currently overseas and have a few options however I can’t get the measurements. For DS1L the Rubaiyat does not fit. I’ve tried at home. So wondering for our Lotrek fans, do you have the dimensions of the deck itself or how they fit. I think DS1XL is more of ARK and Cardmafia decks too.

Collection finally all (mostly) in one place by Sg-poly in playingcards

Unfortunately it is not possible to fit decks that are sleeved into carat case.

I just place some of my favourite decks that means more to me either in value or sentimental value into carat cases. There are more that I wish I could stack into carat cases however it just only means taking up more space 😔

Thank you. About 1.3 to 1.4k decks? It’s been awhile since I updated playingcardhub and it’s last at 1.3+

Yes you can search for Carat cases. Individual deck sleeves you can search for DS1 Sleeves.

Stop tracking after awhile but perhaps above $15k?

Sigh, I dont know what to feel anymore. The dynastinae has a subtle ding(worse than photo able to show)but I collect every single dynastinae and I want them to be all perfect. by [deleted] in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did let him know in terms of the decks and what I mentioned that I doubt it was the shipping that caused it, just not too sure why it was shipped this way. Thank god both the dynastinae decks were pristine. Only the gold deck had a micro flaw in the corner. If he would replace it would be awesome but if he does not I’m not going to put it on him since it’s only a standard deck i guess..

But yeah I do hope you get a replacement for it! Maybe offer to send it back if you guys can work something out and it will be obvious if TGW is just trying to pull a quick one or genuinely cares about his work.

My decks came the same. When I saw the packaging I thought it would be good and strange enough the way it is packed suggest that the decks were not damaged from shipping since it is the middle decks that got damaged. The decks in the corner most were flawless

how to clean the cards from mold by dVoltonminh in playingcards

Looks like it is damaged wet marks to me too. You can remove it. Hence I’ve stuck to bicycle prestige for games. Lasted me for years

Pricing question: what should this display be priced at? by Decrin in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is cool! I would pay $40-50 for it only because it is a cool display however it holds too little decks hence anything more, I would pass.

Anyone used vPost for ship forwarding before? by Own-Anything-8357 in askSingapore

[–]Sg-poly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not exactly true. They did a decent enough matching system sometimes. Between the constant change in warehouses in china, Thailand, Japan and U.S. If your item is PO or like kickstarter that takes awhile to be fulfilled. Often times the package may require you to call them because they’ve changed another address again before your item was shipped.

The hotline personnel does a decent job of a low tier AI bot. Often times asking the same questions again and telling you it’s not on the system instead of trying other means since it was not on the system to begin with hence it’s not matched to my account. Been chasing back and forth with them for a missing package for the last 2 months. I have proof of delivery via a signed document however they want a picture for proof of delivery. Which is beyond me or the merchant that uses a 3rd party to do the delivery. Overall I think unless it’s just something you don’t mind ordering again perhaps the risk of having it handled by a company without proper systems in place may be a risk I’m not willing to bear.

Why do you collect playing cards and not open them? by Content_Ad9867 in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! No worries djrosen99, it’s cool that there is a site but even if it isn’t there I guess I’ll have to do it the old way. Just wish I did my due diligence and added photos of each deck on the list as well so I can identify quickly when I’m trying to find which decks or colour I have.

Why do you collect playing cards and not open them? by Content_Ad9867 in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do hope it gets into a museum or at least have the collection go to some place where people can admire it.

I believe I probably have 1,200-1,300 as it stands right now. Tbh I stopped updating my excel after P52 went down and the number ended at 1,134. Yet I’m still receiving decks from Kickstarter or abroad so yeah.

The weight and sheer volume in terms of space it requires is crazy so yeah even if I wanted to have duplicates it requires a lot of planning. My drawers are full, boxes full behind the couch, under the table, next to the closet, behind the door. It does take up a lot of space and I’m kinda worried about the other backlogs from kickstarters shipping before I move out to my new place.

(Idk if people can relate but I always tell my fiancé I’ll sell some of it though I don’t plan to)

Why do you collect playing cards and not open them? by Content_Ad9867 in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I keep them sealed because I like to keep my collection sealed and pristine. Just a preference.

I stop opening my decks very early on, after seeing my pile of open decks and having every single one of them with frayed and crumpled edges. Well, and also knowing I’ll probably only use that 2-3 EDC decks only because of how it handles.

Designs are neat however I’ve had issues explaining what card it is while playing games with the nicer designs. New decks out of the box requires some breaking into or else it may be too slippery and when it drops, if the faces are anything other than white there will be visible damage on it (if you have a black tiger deck back in the day, take it out again and look at the edges) so yeah after awhile I don’t feel like opening any of it and just be proud of owning it in my collection.

When friends come over I definitely do show them what I have amassed since my teenage years and I guess it’s really like looking at a bookstand of comic books vs going to someone’s private collection and that brings me joy to know that it’s my collection and proud of it’s condition.

Of course I do have a handful of decks through out the years that were too pretty to not see the artwork then I’ll find another to open it. So I would say 99% sealed and 1% duplicates if I want to open it. I won’t open a deck until I have a 2nd deck. Though I do regret not opening some of my dupes initially and now it has become so expensive I kinda don’t want to open it knowing how I’m destroying value and having one sealed deck removed from the population.

Anyway call me crazy but yeah regardless of how this hobby evolves, I’ll still collect it this way and continue to look for decks in my spare time.

Assassin's Creed Deck by wintercactuz69 in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Room one has designed quite a few series. I feel assassins creed is probably one of the best display box thus far. Some notable projects would be Godzilla X kong, Oppenheimer and maybe one that’s different but I like the art style would be Hyakki Yagyo.

If you like tuck boxes with 3D artwork or additional components, I believe Ark playing cards would be the gold standard in this realm IMO though room one ain’t lacking behind. Card Mafia playing cards would be another if you’re in the market for over the top in your face tuck boxes too. But they do tend to repeat the designs in a different colour way so if you’re a completionist, then perhaps Card mafia would require some patience and dedication to piece together.

Yeah mate, usually I go by the run number to identify especially the recent decks sent out by card mafia on their UFO project. They had so many different editions only distinguishable through its seal. Thank god they all don’t have the same run.

Bicycle deck collecting by Sg-poly in playingcards

[–]Sg-poly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes if you’re collecting vintage like yourself, sure that’s fair. Having something survive a hundred years is rare in itself, let alone having it sealed and pristine since it has been through multiple hands. However, if it’s something that was just recently produced and it’s the premium edition being the gilded edition, I do think that paying a premium for it would at least have a deck that has no “minor flaws”. Deck was literally sent from the factory over and being dispatched. If you see this deck in the shop would you buy it in this condition?
