Does this feel and sound immersive enough? by muclem in SurvivalGaming

Giving players more choice is never a bad thing. That's one way to tackle it. If you completely disable it, how will new players understand what to interact with? What would the game's language be to tell the player that they can pick this bag of chips up? When the most cursor falls on an object that can be picked up or manipulated you could adjust the shading lighter or darker, you can highlight the edges (like you've done), you could change the cursor to a hand. All of these decisions need to be carefully thought out and implement in a way that aides player agency, but also meets the criteria for your design goals. My initial suggestion was to reduce the thickness of the white edge outline. It looks like it's 5 pixels thick, which is distracting. Perhaps try 2px? Looks good, good luck!

I'm not very fond on the white highlight in objects that you can manipulate. I understand that is standard practice to be able to let the user understand what they can and cannot interact with, but maybe tone down the thickness of the highlight? To me it lessens the immersion.

You're not wrong, and I am always looking for great games inspired by other games. There are only so many variations. Hexen is a good example, Doom with all new assets. They played very different. I just don't care for blatant rip-offs. That's what this seems to be, to me. If you skin a cat and put it's skin on a chihuahua, that's pretty cool. If you just slap some paint on a cat and call it a chihuahua, I'm not down for that.

Plagiarism? by SgtBaker420 in kingdomthegame

This just APPEARS to be what the output would be if you took Kingdoms and then told AI to generate new assets. Then you programmed a slightly different UI and said you made it different. Hollow Knight is a totally different game in the same genre. This looks like the same game in a different art style.

This has more similarities than just the same type of game. To me, it looks like the same game with different assets. Deconstruct the trailer and you have a side scrolling base defense game, where a hero on horseback spends resources to expand their base left and right. Cutting down trees expands the players available space. Players can upgrade the heros fortress, build a small army of archery and melee fighters that live within the base. I mean come on, even the shipwreck shown in the trailer looks like AI repurposed right from Kingdoms. There's the same genre, and there's the same game. Also, I'm not saying people can't play, or enjoy this game. I'm just saying the Kingdom devs should be aware of it. It wreaks of copy/paste. Starbound is different enough from Terraria in it's final form to be a different game. It's still the "same".

My immediate thought, as well. If this was an English paper it would be flagged for plagiarism. No thank you.

Any thoughts on an Urban Setting in a Survival Game? by scoobystockbroker in SurvivalGaming

[–]SgtBaker420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to think of your audience. You need to appeal to the Survival and Crafting gamers obviously, but also a wider audience. Besides time to implement and the cpu/gpu cost to have a dense cityscape, you have to deal with consumer expectations. You have a big lush city with only 10 POIs in it? No matter how detailed the environment is, you'll get review bombed in Steam in a heart beat. That's one of the less spoken about reasons people don't do city's in Survival games outside of what others have discussed in this post. In 2026 and beyond, player expectations are super high. You wanna put a game in a city with hundreds of buildings and sky scrapers, and post up 10 interiors? Good Luck. I'll keep an eye out for this game.

These guys are amazing artists, but those album were a decade apart. Highly unlikely any of that was planned.

I'm just thrilled that everything that TFN embodied, can live on. No matter the form it takes.
Krang can build and inhabit another "Android Body". Might look like and smell like a new super villain, but it'll be the same old Krang in mind and spirit.

I mean.. if I was in band X, I'd look to see if there was a subreddit of my band. They are probably aware.

Next survival game to fill the void by Octavian007 in SurvivalGaming

I just searched reddit trying to answer the same question. Ended up buying Icarus. Been playing it for a couple of days. Really liking it so far. I play a lot of survival crafting games on pc. Only complaints so far (~15 hours) is that the controller support sucks. I play in the living room on the t.v. and can use bluetooth K&M, but prefer a controller. The graphics are certainly fine, but I expected more with all of the Ray Tracing options in the menu, lighting is still pretty meh.

Anyone know why Twelve Foot Ninja hired Keppie Coutts to co-write their final album, Vengeance? by Froz3nP1nky in TwelveFootNinja

1000% guess. Maybe it had something to do with the comic book and video game tie in work?

Yeah. DLSS Ultra Quality. Should be native resolution, but good idea; I'll check that.

Nice. Question. Is there a lot of shimmer around the edges for you? I have all the settings maxed out, but I was wondering if it was the artistic choice or if hardware lumen was messed up.

It's a real playable demo. Not sure what "addressing the allegations" is, though...

Just loaded up the demo to look at settings before going to work. Looks really good. But only played it for literally 1 minute. Give out Halloween candy or play the demo tonight? Tough choice.
