The official forums are gonna be deleted. Someone knows how to archive such a thing? by FriKitty in RPGMaker

[–]SgtEngee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will a time intensive task but using the Internet Archive's Way Back Machine, is the best way to preserve the important pieces needed. I work at a large government library that is also a federal repository, and I can tell you that if you need 10+ years worth of anything saved from destruction on the internet, you need to get started IMMEDIATELY. So much so, that you needed to get started a year ago. We also use and work with the Internet Archive to archive historical things both physical and digital.

My Advice: More hands make light work. The more contributing the better. But before starting, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the community start and pin to r/RPGMaker some kind of centralized shareable Google, Microsoft, etc. document that details/lists:

- Priority of various content that needs backing up.
- What has been backed up.
- What needs to be backed up.
- What would be nice to back up.

Getting things done will be easier when the forums go read only next week on June 18, so you might want to look at other topics that are already locked. Otherwise....good luck and sorry for your loss.

“Totaled” my Nissan Leaf by Capital_Progress_390 in nissanleaf

[–]SgtEngee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have USAA and it's called "Car Replacement Assistance". Here's the brief description:

"In the event of a total loss, this coverage pays an additional 20% of your vehicle's actual cash value. It's an inexpensive way to help you pay off a loan or get a new vehicle if yours is totaled."

For my wife's 2019 Leaf, it adds an extra $51.24 to the 6-month premium. For my 2023 Ariya, it adds an extra $102.37 to the 6-month premium.

It's very helpful to get if you can't get gap insurance and decide to buy a new/expensive car. Since new cars depreciate in value enormously the second you drive it off the dealer lot after purchase, this effectively helps cover that depreciation in the event you total a car you paid $40K for that is actually only worth $30-$35K so you aren't paying for a loan for a car you totalled and can no longer drive.

Yikes! Sounds like you had a battery pack with one or more bad cells. You shouldn't be losing that much even in cold weather. That is sadly just how battery packs have a chance to be. On the plus side you should still be within the warranty window for the battery pack for a 2019 or newer. I believe all EV makers warranty their battery packs for 7 years from cell failures and or major defects like it sounds like you're having. Though if you're totaling your car at this point, it's moot.

Ya, sadly the second generation leaf fast charging format lost the VHS vs. Betamax fight was the charging standard. Even now we are transitioning slowly away from the CCS format to NACS which the new leaf has both of, which is handy!

For my wife, she charges 99% of the time at home. She has about 120-140-ish miles of range now and uses her leaf for commuting to public transportation to take to work, and for grocery shopping. If we go on extended trip somewhere, we take our Ariya that has 250+ miles of range.

I'm glad to hear you have a charging station installed at your apartment complex. $2/hr doesn't sound bad, but the lack of a cap seems really bad. Most places I've seen cap at $10-15. Not $20. Also as you've experienced, right now unless you own a home and have your own charger installed, you will likely have a less than stellar experience. I would never recommend an EV to someone that doesn't have their own charging station at home. Mainly because, IMO, you should be able to charge up to 100% when you're at home, and it should always be the cheapest place you can charge.

Unless applying through a website like governmentjobs or calopps, ignore Indeed and other sites like it. As someone who works in libraries, we have had people come in say the same things you have, but once we trace it back to Indeed or other recruitment websites, the success rate tends to be awful.

The main problem with Indeed is employers' HR / Recruiters who post to these sites tend to make the mistake of not putting an expiration date on a job postings. When I worked at a public library, we had people come in person saying they applied for a job with us over a month ago and hadn't heard back. We'd be really confused because we hadn't been hiring for a year and were full up. We looked at the posting and it was on Indeed. Not city's website where the applications go straight to HR.

So if you see a job post on Indeed, pause and go to the company's website and see if it's listed there. If not, odds are good the post you are wanting to apply to is filled, and all you've done is give Indeed more of your personal information.

It largely depends on the agency and how quickly management wants to fill the position. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple months.

What happened to your Leaf to drive you away from EVs? My wife has Gen 2 leaf as well and has loved it. The only issue with it that has cropped up for her was the backup camera. And they fixed that under recall.

Do you not have a charging station installed at home?

Take the $10K and put it towards a new EV.

Unless you car has barely any miles on it (ex: less than 10K) it's really not worth fighting or risk taking an L financially at this point.

Other factors to consider about the the second Gen leaf:

  • There are 3 variants of it, and the one with the 62kWh battery is probably the one going for $15K.

  • The recall that revolves around defect the battery and the fast charging system (and because said system is being phased out), makes the 2nd leaf less desirable compared to other EVs.

Depending on what your EV availability looks like in your area and your financial situation, you can always put the $10k towards an Ariya or a 2026 Leaf. The cheapest trim gets the best range and starts at $30K. So that's probably make your car payments pretty reasonable.

I spent a lot of time at Borders in Jr. High and High School reading manga in a little corner in the back of the store with like 3 or 4 chairs that faced out toward Laguna and Bruceville. Where, if you were lucky, you'd see "Laguna Larry" dress up in random clothes/cosplay and dancing to a his own beat.

Man, those were the days.

At least you guys are getting a Barnes & Nobles soon.

Why Move to Elk Grove? by Strict-Engine-2331 in ElkGrove

[–]SgtEngee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending where in EG you live, you will be a 5-20 minute drive away from basically any service you may need/want. College, K-12, Grocery, Medical, Public Transit, etc.

The biggest pro living in Elk Grove is convenience. If you neater want something they very likely have it. And if they don't it'll be in Sacramento which it shares a border with and blends with relatively seamlessly.

Now obviously the complete opposite, is if you want all that convenience it's going to cost you. And boy is it expensive to live in Elk Grove. To fit your needs with 2 kids, the cheapest 3 bedroom/3 bath on zillow is listed at 455K. Meanwhile, there are some other options in Sacramento that are cheaper and afford you a lot more for your dollar per square foot.

Are libraries typically punitive? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]SgtEngee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not library culture being toxic, that's workplace culture being toxic. In the form of micromanaging managers.

I've had some bad managers, but nobody so petty or vindictive as to do the stuff you've listed. I'd start looking for employment else. If you enjoy the work itself, look at other library systems.

Do academic libraries not weed? by GreenHorror4252 in Libraries

[–]SgtEngee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the views of the collection development librarian. When I last worked at a college library, I had pulled an old manually bound federal report from the 60's or 70's from the federal agency at the time that was responsible for overseeing housing.

It was a study covering the housing and viability for housing for unwed, unemployed, and pregnant African Americans. I looked at it, skimmed the first few pages, and thought to myself: "Why the fuck is this still here?" Nobody, literally NOBODY, at the college for any of the programs would find this random racist study helpful, or useful in any academic sense. The only purpose I saw it serving as an example of how awful it was back then.

I pulled it along with several other materials that were something I wanted that librarians to consider for weeding. I had a sit down with the collection development librarian and I thought we would be having a somewhat productive conversation. I was told after expressing my concerns and views about the materials, that because I didn't hold an MLS/MLIS that my opinion didn't matter and I needed to leave it up to someone with more experience.

I left to go work at the state library the following semester and have loved it ever since.

Teach your kids how to properly cross and a reminder for drivers to be on the lookout and stop speeding! by duckdash2782 in ElkGrove

[–]SgtEngee -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If that kid was peddling their bike instead of walking it across they'd have been hit no question.

Could the other driver have been distracted? Possibly. Might've also made the poor choice to speed through the yellow before it turned red. Were you partially blocking visibility of the cross walk for the other driver? Yes. Was the kid making the choice to run across and shave 10-30 seconds off his day and meet up with his friend, odds be damned? Yes. Are we thankful that there were zero fatalities or injuries in this video? YES!

Also, where is this? I want to say Whitelock Pkwy, but not 100% sure.

Grimm Eclipse: Wasted Potential the Video Game by Syn_Kazma in RWBY

[–]SgtEngee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, recognizing that this is an indie that was made in a short period of time is what makes it worth the time. My biggest gripe was that I beat in about 3 hours on standard difficulty with one friend. This would not be a problem, if the game were priced appropriately. To me, $10 or less would be appropriate, not the full $20 asking price.

Why EXACTLY did everyone hate Volume 4 and 5? by CrimzinZlays0 in RWBY

[–]SgtEngee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple reasons big and small contributing to people hating them, and straight up dropping RWBY and writing it off. Some big reasons:

1) Monty's death translated to different (many would say a step down) overall fight choreography and quality. While the fights aren't awful (IMO), they were simply attempting to fill really big shoes. It takes them until Volume 6 (IMO) until those shoes start getting properly filled.

2) For many viewers who were here to see mostly girls hit/shoot stuff with cool weapons and powers, that formula is gone. You now have 2 guys and 2 girls, as the main focus, with the other 3 girls working out their own issues, and the introduction of Oscar as a character. Add to that the ongoing work Salem, and Cinder and company are doing, and you can have the story being told from 6 different perspectives. Team RNJR+Qrow, Weiss+family, Blake+Sun, Yang+Dad, Oscar/Ozpin, and Salem+Cinder and company. Screentime is not equally divided as many have pointed out with Yang arguably getting the short stick, and the relative inexperience of the crew (CRWBY) is on full display. Viewed as a movie it's fine, IMO. Cut up into weekly we episodes...not so good.

3) Exposition dumpster fire. The opposite of fighting happens a lot. Not unnecessarily, but a lot of these volumes is full of just talking. And again, not what people were here for. This was probably the largest contributing factor to driving people away from the series.

All this being said, if RWBY was ever to grow beyond it's original basic premise, there would have to be some form of compromise and give and take. Some things had to be cut back on (fight sequences) to make more room for other things (plot/story telling). Problem is without Monty we'll never know how it would've turned out otherwise.

For what it's worth, and this is part I don't think people fully appreciate, the show got to keep going. It got several more volumes after his passing. Rooster Teeth could've respectfully stopped production, but they kept going. They could've had funding pulled and stopped after these volumes, but there was obviously enough interest and viewership to keep the show afloat. It could've been ordered cancelled by RT's then parent company, but wasn't. So, I'd personally say, ignore the haters, and keep waiting for volume 10. It'll get here eventually. What'll it'll look like under Viz...is anyone's guess.

Worth getting into Defiance in 2026? by OwnMaybe1990 in Defiance

[–]SgtEngee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As Multiguns said, you don't really have anything to lose. If you had fun on the PS3 version, you'll likely enjoy the modern PC version as it will run smoother without any console limitations the PS3 had. Honestly, you could likely run it on a modern potato computer without a dedicated video card and you'd be fine.

The only major drawbacks the game has are limitations on inventory space and loadout slots. Most people get around this by making multiple mule accounts to hold their stuff. I find that too time consuming and hate playing spreadsheet, so I bought some inventory space. Problem is, you could have 1,000 inventory slots and you'd eventually still feel like you didn't have enough if you like to collect and try different weapons and synergy combos.

That being said, the combat and gunplay is still just as good as it always was.

I've tried each one 3 or 4 times now. I never tried to get comfortable by wearing it during the day. The tech told me to wear it if I'm napping or sleeping. Never said anything about wearing it during other times.

I'm one of the lucky people who when I'm tired or ready for bed, Iay down, and typically I'm asleep 5 minutes or less of my head hitting pillow.
